Topic: How do I cut from sprite sheets?

Posted: 04/17/09 08:13 PM

Forum: General

Recently, I've been playing around a little with "Scratch". If you haven't heard about it, it's a nice little program to help program animations or games (little ones) without going through all the syntax of regular coding. It is very good at working with sprites, and I've been pulling a few sprite sheets. I'm the first to admit, I'm not very accustomed to the whole, art part of it, so I was wondering, what's the trick behind "cutting" sprites out of a sprite sheet?

Here in Georgia, a charter highschool in duluth, GSMST (The Gwinnett School of Math Science and Technology) has actually formated a formal club that to my knowledge, no other has so far, at least to the extent they have. Apparently the object is Three-fold: They want to study games, make games (like javascript games) and do online gaming competitions (duh). I think that this is pretty cool, with the fact that it's all student led. So, let this be a lesson to all you highschool students, video games CAN be productive. Here's an example: Your assault rifle holds only 30 rounds and you have 7 clips left. If it takes 23 bullets to kill an opponent, how many can you kill (assume you can finish him off with some melee move)? =D

That or he did some regrettable things in his youth and later learned how to be a better person. Why is everyone so determined to knock these people down? There are people who are better than you. Deal with it.

The object of this discussion was not to knock these people down, or to "fill the teenage obsession to fight against authority figures" as you put it, but instead to at least get people thinking. I'm sorry if you view it like you do, but I am also interested in what things have been done by what history considers great leaders. You should make your own choice, and just because we are talking about their faults and mistakes, doesn't mean that I, at least, disagree with some of them. Just trying to get their human-ness out there.

Over the course of history, there have been many great leaders, in most every country. Napoleon of France. Caesar of Rome. Alexander the Great of Greece, Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, and so on. But they have often been looked at..... on only one side. I intend, in this post to reveal a few things about great leaders (who you may or may not agree with, I may or may not agree with some too).

Caesar:Nowadays, thought mostly of as a man who took advantage of power. But was he really? Caesar set a trend, and turned the Roman empire strong. Just think about that.

Jackson:A lot of people will think badly of Jackson (Andrew Jackson) for his cruel treatment of Indians (Native Americans). But he was also a great military strategist, and kept the country intact. Was he wrong?

Lincoln:Remembered as the free-er of slaves. But he originally did not take a stand on this topic, and was pressured by his advisors to create the document that freed them, to enrage the south.

Martin Luther King Jr.:A great black/African American civil rights leader during the mid 20th century. But, unthought of by most, the reverend was also quite womanizing. He had quite an active time even while married, with other women.

Mao Zedong (Tse-Tung):The final leader on this list. Revered by modern China as a great movement leader (The Communist Movement), and disliked by most of the western world. Most chinese citizens know, but do not think about the fact that "Chairman Mao" had a nasty little habit of impregnating 11 year old girls. Disgusting.
If you disagree with anything, or wanna add anything, please do.

Topic: Join the fight against communism!

Posted: 08/13/08 09:37 PM

Forum: Politics

The problem nowadays, is not Marxism or Leninism or Socialism or straight Communism. The problem is what survives, and that's Marxism/Maoism in China hiding under a Capitalist/Communist market. That's right, Capitalist/Communist. The only reason China has survived as long as they have under communism is because of expansions that allow controlled forms of capitalism. As for the IDEAL of communism/socialism, and the "equality" there isn't equality among people in China. China has unfortunately had a bad pick of the litter in leaders. Going back to Confucious (Kong Fu Zi) even, there was the idea that some lives were worth more than others. So nowadays, the common person in China is kind of thought upon as a "peasant" by the higher-up government (to use a western term) big-wigs, and there's abuse of the people. But brainwashing has been so well carried out by the government that the people do not recognize this. Well, and then there's the Asian sense of Honor. So, because of a few factors, China, the last TRUE communist country, remains in a sort of Feudalistic system, since that is the way it has always been. We can only hope that they will go the way of all countries and eventually change the govt again, this time, we hope, to a Democracy with a Capitalistic Economy. (Btw.... Socialism is an Economic system, Communism is a Government system. Because the two are so often together, they are mistakenly used interchangeably. Just clearing that up)

Yes, there are alot of military bases, mostly left over from the Cold War and placed in strategic positions. And yes, it is a shame that some country's ecosystem is harmed by the bases presence. But crime has nothing to do with it. I think the bases should remain, because they serve as a reminder that someone's out there watching, and willing to help those in desperate trouble, all over the world.

Seriously. Why are people 18-29 so stupid? If they actually went out and showed up on election day, they could actually get their candidate to win, instead of losing and then bitching about how people who voted for the other guy are so stupid.

Can you say "Vote or Die?" lol. People in this country, unfortunately, are morons, alot of the time. Oh well.

Wellllll....I am really new to flash, and I went through a couple official tutorials on making stuff. I've managed to create a banner, and small animations. But, how am I supposed to add a preloader to the finished product? Add it as a sole instance on the first frame?

Your songs are all loops. Nobody can take you seriously unless you get a REAL program, to make REAL music.
