In my country voting is compulsory. All eligible Australian citizens must enroll and vote in in federal elections, state or territory elections, by-elections and referendums. Beyond that it varies by state or territory. If you do not vote you must either provide a valid reason for why you did not vote, pay a fine, or appear in court. Some people have even been jailed for not voting, but it is extremely rare. Thus we have extremely high voter turnout.
Compulsory voting does exist in other countries, but it is extremely rare. Only 22 countries have compulsory voting and only 10 enforce it.
So, what do you think of compulsory voting?
Nate Silver gives Republicans a 73% chance of winning control of the Senate. Anyone feel like betting against him?

I still rather be the monkey armed with tasers. Even though the shark seems a whole lot more deadly the idea of a monkey armed with tasers is far too fascinating to pass up.
Would you rather be a zombie moose or a werewolf?

Would you rather become a pornstar or fight crime as a hippie?
Would you rather star in gay porn or child porn?
You can't be serious. Child porn is creepy, horrifying, illegal, and a crime against humanity. Gay porn just involved a bunch of gay dudes pounding each other.
Backs away slowly....
Would rather be a monkey armed with tasers or be a hidden camera in a girl's locker room?
A monkey armed with tasers. You're really upping the creep factor today aren't you. You're starting to scare me TheGameChanger.
Would you rather have me think you are a creep or a liar?
I saw the film on a discount day and I was pretty disappointing. I've seen a lot of WWII themed movies and this one just seemed like a lot of old hat. It wasn't bad enough to be funny or good enough to be interesting. The movie looked good and the explosions were pretty decent, but I really couldn't empathize with the characters at all.
If have a hankering for a WWII movie made recently there are plenty of better options, like: Inglorious Basterds (also starring Pitt), Enemy at the Gates, Downfall, Letters fro Iwo Jima, the Pianist, and a whole mess of other ones. That's not to mention all the fine WWII films made in earlier decades.

I rather slay a kaiju. They're bigger and they just look a little bit cooler on balance. Plus, some of them kind of look like dragons anyway.

I blame TheGameChanger for this stupid new piece of legislation. The benefits of retaining metadata for law enforcement rarely seems to justify the cost. It would be easier to just spend the extra money saved from not implementing BS legislation like this to pay down our already low national debt.

Grilled Chicken. On balance fried chicken is greasier than it is tasty and I don't need high blood pressure and other negative health outcomes associated with it.

Well, it looks like a whole mess of statistics have been recalculated down from a few days ago. The WHO's estimation of total deaths decreased from 5,078 to 4,951. It's the the only thing that has been recalculated either. At least its positive that the trend of less Ebola deaths seems to be taking a stronger hold in the region, but I'm sure the relevant health authorities would have appreciated more accurate statistics earlier. Also, there was one Ebola death in Mali yesterday.
It is fortunate that this epidemic didn't turn out to be nearly as bad as many feared, but there were a lot of mistakes made along the way. I hope people learn from the mistakes in how this was dealt with to more effectively deal with major epidemics in the future. We don't get hit with them that often after all and it seems like the frequency is decreasing, so its important to stay sharp for the handful of times it is important to deal with them quickly and effectively.
It is worth noting that even though this is considered a "worldwide epidemic" it has only broken out in 8 countries. Among those countries the breakouts have only been substantial in three: Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone. Aside from Spain and the United States all other countries with Ebola outbreaks have been in Eastern Africa, so it is really more appropriate to call it a Regional outbreak, at least right now. Also, all the really deadly epidemics of modern times have been flus, so this particular epidemic is a relative anomaly. If history is any guide we likely won't see anything like this (a large, non flu, worldwide epidemic) again in our lifetimes.

That is correct. Here is some background I found in a quick internet search.
The gist is that associating color with gender at all is a relatively new idea that only really showed up in the 1890s in a few countries. It didn't really take hold in a significant part of the world until much later and the whole blue is for boys, pink is for girls dichotomy only really showed up after the 1950s in the Western world. Even today there is no broad consensus on this worldwide. It only seems to be particularly useful in order to simplify the marketing of products to children, which is where you see it in the greatest concentration.

I'm sorry, that really sucks. At least you might get a chance of getting a small rebate on your monthly bill though; at least as long as the dispute continues. On the bright side, most of these tv disputes seem to clear up after about a month of negotiations, so you shouldn't be in for too much longer of this.

I was thinking it might be best to put all my thread ideas in a text document and ranking them by quality. That way the next thread I post are the best ones I can think of at the time. However, some posts are time sensitive, like for breaking news like this.

Instead of trying to make 4 threads a day, try to make threads that will invoke good discussion and be active in that thread as well.
And if the limit was lifted to 5-6 threads a day i could see multiple users spamming the BBS just for the sake of it.
But what about users who don't abuse the quota and just have a lot of ideas they want to share all the time? Well, I guess rules have to be based on doing the greatest good for the most amount of people; not catering to a few exceptions and sacrificing the whole. Still makes me sad though. I run up against the thread limit quite often.

Everyone dreams, but do you ever write down your dreams after you have them?
There are thousands of resources devoted to interpreting dreams and many people keep dream journals. There is even a whole body of literature devoted to lucid dreaming, where you realize you are in a dream and then attempt to control what happens in it.
However, only a small number of people really participate for the simple reason that it still remains a massive inconvenience to consciously remember to record your dreams after you wake up.
Well, why not put a dent in that problem? If you dream and visit this site, why not record your dreams here? Then we can all help analyze and enjoy them. Win-win for everyone.

Yeah, no trick-or-treating around here, but I read plenty of websites that are based in the US so I think I get the jist of it. Just curious what you Americans were up to.
Did you go out trick-or-treating this year? Brought back a lot of candy? Then post your haul of multicolored, sugar packed goodness for all to see.
Of course, you could be on the other side of the equation. Maybe you didn't get many trick-or-treaters and you have a bunch of candy left over.
Either way, post what you have and what you intend to do with it.
