Response to: What if the World was United? Posted November 5th, 2014 in General

Another man had this same idea and things didn't turn out well for him. He's only the latest example. It might be workable or even desirable and some point far in the future, but not today. Also, it would be insanely boring unless we found something else other than conflict of one type or another to occupy our time. The pleasures of a civilized and peaceful society can only satisfy so many people for so long.

Until the end of 2014. I plan to post the last update on January 1st 2015 so that I can include the total number of posts for the year and get a truly accurate ending count.

Will I start a new list in 2015? I don't know. I'll see how well received this list turned out to be and make a decision then. There's no big rush.

Response to: NASA rocket explodes Posted November 5th, 2014 in General

Now even Orbitaal Sciences is saying the cause of the explosion was the Russian rocket failure, however that Russian rocket was certified and modernized by Aerojet Rocketdyne, so its not like you can place all the blame on the Russian company. Also, Orbital Sciences agreed to use the engine on their rocket, even though it was so old, so they are at least partly to blame. Kuznetsov Design Bureau didn't even wind up selling the rocket engines themselves. They were supposed to be destroyed.

So, if I were to apportion blame on each party I would do so this way.

-It is primarily Orbital Sciences' fault for choosing to buy an old, refurbished rocket engine to place on their rocket.
-The second most blame goes to Aerojet Rocketdyne for selling them said engine without adequately reviewing its mechanical integrity.
-The third most blame should go to NASA for certifying the rocket for use in transporting supplies to the ISS. Granted, their budget and resources have been declining for years, but they certainly had the expertise to see this as a potential problem before it happened. Perhaps they deemed it an acceptable risk. I really can't tell. After all, this is Orbital Sciences first failure ever using this particular rocket.
-I guess you could say the bureaucrat the initially squirreled away the engines initially in the 90s bears some small responsibility, but he was really in no position to tell what condition the engines were in anyway.

World's Most Powerful People Posted November 5th, 2014 in Politics

Forbes has been putting together a list for the last 5 years of the world's most powerful people. They include one person for every 100 million people (72 total) and use a number of metrics in making their decision. The generally include more business leaders then other similar publications. This year the list included 5 political leaders, 2-3 business leaders, 2 financial leaders, and 1 religious leader. Here are the top 10 in order:

1.) Valdimir Putin
2.) Barack Obama
3.) Xi Jinping
4.) Pope Francis
5.) Angela Merkel
6.) Janet Yellen
7.) Bill Gates
8.) Mario Draghi
9.) Sergey Brin & Larry Page
10.) David Cameron

Do you agree with their rankings? If not why, who would you put their instead?

Do you think there is a trend toward business leaders becoming more powerful at the expense of political leaders? If so, what short and long term effects do you think this will have on politics around the world?

At 11/5/14 08:55 AM, Jin wrote: Why didn't I make the list? I'm sure there are less than 100 users on the BBS.

Actually there are far more than 100 users on the BBS in any given day. Yesterday posts were made by 288 different users and although there is a lot of overlap in users that post across weeks or months I wouldn't be surprised if there are tens of thousands of different users that post in any given year. Of course, this includes those that post once and those who post thousands of times. I imagine the staff would have more complete stats on that.

As far as why you aren't on the list, you just don't have enough posts. As it stands right now you would need an additional 300 posts to make the cut and I haven't even fully updated it yet for next week.

It depends. I have come across videos and movies where it breaks content and ones where it doesn't. The latter group greatly outnumber the former, but it does happen.

DO GO ON.

I think your best option would be to get a condom variety pack, the more variety that better. That way you can try them all out and see what you like best as opposed to going on the suggestions of others. Condom preferences are personal and you're going to want to use ones that are best for both of you, so why not try out a bunch. It might even be fun.

I think I rather play a video game, because even though being inside a video game would be awesome the thought of constantly dying and then respawning is terrifying. Also, what happens when the console gets turned off? Do I go into hibernation? Do I die?

At 11/4/14 10:33 AM, nat29 wrote: I'm creating a new short right now, and I want to hear from you guys which background is better?

I like both the Photoshop background and the Flash background you made. The Photoshop one looks more static and the flash ones looks more dynamic. If you're going for an animation where you want the background to stick out a bit more I'd go with the flash one. If you want the background to stick out less I'd go with the Photoshop one.

Also, it looks like the flash one would be easier to modify since each star is larger. You could make some stars twinkle or add different colors more easily. That doesn't seem like a very good option with the Photoshop one.

Either way, good luck. I look forward to seeing the finished product.

So here's the list of Top 100 Forum Posters for 2014.

The formatting is messy and I'm sure there are people that are missing from the list. Just think of this as a rough draft. There's also a question of accuracy, since it takes approximately an hour to update and in the interim people can post. I intend to update this once a week until the end of the year. Newer versions will be nicer looking and more useful than this one, but I just wanted to get this first one out as soon as possible. Enjoy.
