I was just wondering why it was decided that there would be a 4 thread limit per day placed on the forums. I can understand the need for some sort of limit to discourage spamming, but sometimes 4 threads per day seems a little low, especially since the forums are not nearly as active as they used to be. Any chance it might be increased to 5 sometimes in the future?

Problem with Ageless Cartoons Posted November 1st, 2014 in General

So there are plenty of cartoons (or animations if you prefer) that have ageless characters. Two of the longest running examples are: The Simpsons (25 years) and South Park (17 years). It's great when an animated series is so successful that it lasts that long. However, each series is starting to butt up against the problem of having ageless characters; their voice actors age.

The median age for the Simpsons' voice actors is approaching 60. If the series lasts for another 15 years, which would not exactly be unprecedented the average age of the voice actors would be around 70. At that point you have to start wondering about the life expectancy of your voice actors. Do you keep replacing them, change characters, or cancel the show?

I don't know the answer to this, but it is a problem (albeit a morbid one). What would you do if you had to decide?

Response to: should i go vegan? Posted November 1st, 2014 in General

Trying to go on a one food diet is a crappy way to lose weight. You might actually lose weight that way, but you will harm your health doing it. I mean, you could lose weight eating nothing but deep fried Twinkies, but its a bad idea. If you want to lose weight in a healthy way and keep it off the best way to do it is to eat a varied diet and exercise. Feel free to eliminate useless foods that have no nutritional values, like candy or lard, but the rest should stay in at least some amount.

It is possible to be a Vegan and do so in a reasonably healthy way, but you have to be extremely careful about making food choices to balance out your diet. Vegan diets generally lack certain vitamins and nutrients, so you need to be careful about making sure you get enough. Try to be realistic about it though. If you're not willing to go to all that effort to maintain a healthy Vegan diet this is probably a bad idea.

Breathe underwater. Might actually have some uses.

Would you rather get rid of all useless stuff you have, or never be able to obtain useful stuff again?

Get rid of all the useless stuff I have for sure. What if I wanted to obtain some food or something. If I couldn't obtain useful stuff ever again I imagine I would either be pretty miserable or dead.

Would you rather get rid of Halloween or get rid of Christmas?

Response to: Serious Discussion: Blood Diamonds Posted November 1st, 2014 in General

Diamonds are only valuable, because a few companies keep the prices artificially high in order to ensure their own profits. If you were somehow able to force these companies to sell their products at market rates you could almost entirely destroy the Blood Diamond trade.

By the way, here at the top 5 Diamond companies by revenue that sell diamonds. De Beers was once the largest diamond company by far and controlled the vast majority of diamond production, however that is no longer the case. In the 1980s they sold 50% of their stake in the market and you can see what happened. They are still the largest diamond company, but the market is not much more diversified now.

Of course, diamonds are not the only valuable minerals in these regions, so in all likelihood a lot of these groups would just start hawking other valuable metals and minerals.

So I started compiling this list, just to see what it would look like. It looks like there are at least 50 users that have made over 1,000 posts in the current year, so I'm that that is a good place to cut off the list. So, who is still interested in say a Top 50 or Top 100 Forum Poster List for 2014?

I trim them, since shaving them down to far could result in possibly nicking them and that is not pleasant at all. I'm a pretty hairy guy down there and letting it go too wild can get not very hygienic and sometimes a bit uncomfortable. There's also the oral sex stuff, since its good to be considerate of other people.

Response to: Addons and Extensions Posted October 31st, 2014 in General

Well, here are the addons I use, on Firefox:

Adblock Plus: for ad blocking

BetterPrivacy: privacy

BugMeNot: to log into websites I'm not committed enough to set up an account for

checkCompatibility 1.3: IT allows me to run older extensions in a semi-complex sort of manner

DuckDuckGo Plus: Makes DDG my default search engine along with additional functionality options

Flash Video Downloader: In case I want to save something I see on the net for later viewing

ForecastFox: for weather

Ghostery: for privacy

Hola Unblocker: for when i want to watch something on a country restricted website

Https-Everywhere: Also for privacy

NoScript: for privacy, but its a pain to set up

The Addon Bar (restored): so I can use Forecastfox

WOT: to make sure i don't accidentally wind up on a bad website that could infect my computer with something.

I've used others in the past, but these are the ones I'm using now. This is actually relatively trimmed down compared to what I used to use. I've been trying to find other programs to do what I used to do with certain addons, since it does slow browser startup times, but just by a little. Also, you tend to get a stronger feature list for standalone programs vs. addons.

I guess that depends on what country you happen to live in. Apparently it's legal in Portugal, but I don't know where else. As far as saying you are doing something, well I guess that depends on what country you live in, but in most cases it is questionable at best.

Anyway, I'm not really doing anything. Halloween isn't a big thing around here, so most people don't celebrate and trick or treating really isn't a thing. I may have some chocolate and that will be about it.

Well, some people have called if food porn and I guess that applies well enough. I haven't tried anything they make either. I kind of think of it like a comedy/entertainment show that just happens to have food as its subject as opposed to the other way around.

Epic Meal Time Posted October 31st, 2014 in General

Just for some background, Epic Meal Time is an online cooking show created by a bunch of Canadians. They make absurdly large and impossibly fatty dishes along a set theme in each episode.

Who has seen one of their videos? If so, what do you think? Would you ever consider making one of their crazy concoctions?

Well, I guess we'll just have to see how Wilmore will do in his slot. The Colbert Report's rating were pretty consistent though, even in later seasons, so I wouldn't bet on it doing nearly as well. I might Comedy Central is going to be really happy about that.

As for whether I'll be watching, I doubt it. I haven't seen an episode of Daily or Colbert in some time and Wilmore is even more of any unknown to me. I may try an episode or two once the show gets going, if there seems to be some interest in it though. Hope Colbert does well in his new job though. He seems to be on balance a good guy, so I'd like to see him succeed.

When to Stop Following? Posted October 31st, 2014 in General

So, I follow a lot of people on this site, and I do mean a lot. If I see something I like from someone I hit follow to make sure I know when they come out with something new. However their are members, great content creators all of them, who haven't created anything new in years. There's a part of me that wants to hold out hope that they might return to creating again, but the longer nothing new appears that less likely that becomes.

So, what do you think is the right time to stop following people?

I'm thinking 4 years after their last submission might be a good time, but I'd love to hear your thoughts. It pains me to do this, but there really isn't much sense in following people who aren't likely to ever return is there?

Response to: The Usss Needs To Be Restructed Posted October 31st, 2014 in Politics

I'm all for restructuring the secret service. From what I've heard this is a long running problem. This isn't a few isolated incidents. It's a question of poorly balanced priorities and outright incompetence. You can't train that out of a person after they've been on the job for a certain amount of year.

If the Secret Service can't do their job, what good are they really. Seriously, all they have is one job; protect the US president. It isn't even all that hard when you think about it, compared what all the other investigative branches have to do.
