If a piece of knowledge is not immediately applicable (i.e. practical), should it then be considered worthless? No way jose, think about imaginary numbers (50 A.D.) and their eventual application of radio wave transmission in the early 20th century.

Good example. But what if you somehow knew that a certain piece of knowledge would never become practical, even years later, such as in this case? Are you saying that all knowledge is worthwhile because there is a chance that somewhere down the road it will become practical?
God I'm drunk.

Wow. Definitely was not expecting this to be the first sentence in this topic.
So, what do you think makes for a good forum poster?
Who gives a fuck about the poster? It's about the posts, man. If somebody makes a new topic about an interesting subject or idea or whatever the fuck, then that's what people will gravitate toward, not necessarily the poster themselves.

For me it'd be Riot Fest 2013 in Chicago, I can't pick an act. Maybe Public Enemy.
Blue Oyster Cult at Ribfest 2014 was also great, especially since Foghat and George Thorogood were part of the lineup.
BOC sounds sweet. Had to chance to see them around 2008 but missed it for some reason.
One of the best times of my life was seeing Refused on their reunion tour. Unbelievable.

Inapplicable knowledge is utterly useless-- although fun to think about at times.
We gain knowledge through our past experiences. If we don't apply them, what use'll it be?
A fair response.
So then what do we stand to gain by learning, say, the ideas of Plato or Aristotle? Or by studying literature? Is this knowledge technically "inapplicable?"
I'm only asking because I'm drunk and why not. I don't have any ulterior motive here, just curious.

"Unbelievably hit or miss," is a bit of an overstatement. The show is in its eighteen(?) season after all. I still watch it because I've been a fan ever since I was ten and I don't want to get old and life sucks so I desperately latch onto every last source of nostalgia, but I don't think it's doing too bad considering how long it's been around.
Yeah.

Honestly when I first read this, I brushed it off... rereading it now, I agree. I like this perspective, that all knowledge and its related experiences can be made worthwhile by leading you to connect with another human being. Seriously brilliant response.
Obviously an American will answer them differently than somebody living in China. In fact, even an Asian American may answer differently than an African American. Age, sex, race, nationality, religion -- I think there are a lot of factors to consider when it comes to how a person may define intelligence.Or they'll do what a reasonably intelligent person would do; know that they don't know all of the answers, and RESEARCH to get an accurate result, like I just did with the dictionary. Now you have people from all backgrounds that can come to a universal consensus.
I agree with what you're saying. I think I was just trying to make a point on how culture can influence our perception of intelligence on a social level. People in America may view intelligent people as those who achieve academically and professionally. Surely this isn't a universal view. Within the contexts of other cultures, certain traits such as honesty or sociability could play a higher role in 'determining' intelligence.

I graduated high school in 2008. I've been through community college, university, and now graduate school. It's hard work and costs a lot of money. Paying for most of it myself, I'm in plenty of debt from student loans, and the career that I'm aiming toward is very far from financially rewarding. Nevertheless, it's want to do, and the only reason I'm going to be capable of doing it is because I went to college.
It's going to take a while for me to repay my loans, but I'm not looking to live the high life. I don't mind living in this shitty apartment because it allows me to make bigger payments. Soon enough I'll be debt free and enjoying a job that I love.

probably not enough to live decently on (once you account for taxes, car insurance, health insurance, etc), but don't act like you're in abject poverty.
I get the feeling you don't pay your own bills.
"Without application, knowledge is useless."
Any thoughts on this quote? What is the point of knowledge, in your opinion? If a piece of knowledge is not immediately applicable (i.e. practical), should it then be considered worthless? What's your definition of intelligence?
I think that the answers to these questions ultimately vary depending on cultural contexts. Obviously an American will answer them differently than somebody living in China. In fact, even an Asian American may answer differently than an African American. Good! Everybody should remind themselves of that man's genius from time to time.
Have you ever watched the full/unedited version of his Comedy Central Presents special? He kind of bombs during the first part (i.e. the part that made it to television) but once the crowd warms up to him he sticks around and does another fifteen minutes. It's fucking hilarious, mainly because you can tell nobody in the crowd knew who he was, which is why they were so dumbfounded.
Here is the link. Now head on down nostalgia lane.
Read some Kropoktin and come back to me.
Seriously, though.
