Artificial islands: the wave of the future. Just look at the United Arab Emirates. They're pros as island construction.

At a model arab league conference I attended earlier this year, one of the representatives proposed that the Israeli Jews be moved to an island constructed in the Mediterranean in order to resolve the Palestine/Israel conflict. But that is not the issue here...

I'm not sure what can be done with this floating dump. I heard that the way nuclear waste is being disposed of is by mixing it with concrete, because then it becomes inert or something (at least not dangerous, I guess). Perhaps the same thing should be done with the sea-plastic. I mean, someone has to be able to make money here.

If recycling a plastic bottle in California gets you, say $.05, and a bottle weighs about 1/20 of a pound... then all the tons of waste are actually FLOATING GOLD. In sum, I say repurpose that shit into new bottles and stuff instead of waiting centuries for it to break down while releasing who knows what kind of chemicals into the ocean and atmosphere.

I mean, that's why all of the conservatives are against Stem Cell research, if I remember correctly. Because they think it benefits from abortions.

They also use the placentas (afterbirth) from a pregnancy.

I probably should find a new activity.

For example, if it took me 2 years to finish the required math to transfer while it took other person 1 year, however I still had a 3.6 GPA or higher, how much would that extra year matter when being compared to the other student when transferring from a two year community college to a 4 year like USC?

P.S ~~~~> PLEASE only give a response if you actually happen to know what your talking about. It's too late to call a college counselor and im pretty nervous about it right now.

lol. i think you're sweating it too much.

I transferred twice during my undergrad, and I'm now in grad. school. So I hope that establishes my credentials. Now, for your "problem"...

Since you have a good GPA, they're more likely to overlook the fact that it took you "awhile" to finish your required courses. Now, I'm assuming you didn't repeat the courses you're referring to, because that may be a different problem. As long as the rest of your admissions package is good (extracurriculars, etc) is strong, you'll be fine.

Response to: Black People Names... Posted January 15th, 2009 in General

To address the original post:

It's not necessarily the African culture that African Americans are wanting to do with their children's names. African Americans have a culture of their own that is distinct from the culture of Africans (both Black and White). They have many experiences that their African counterparts lack, and they celebrate their differences.

Plus, White people are starting to name their kids weird things too. Take for instance, Kristen. I've seen it spelled Chrystan, Krysteen, and Kristyn. Although the names are generally staying close to their historic form, it seems as if letters are being added and vowels/consonants are being exchanged.

In sum, this new generation of kids just has fucked up names. Whatever happened to the Sarah's, Jack's, Elizabeth's, and Richard's of the world?? :(

Response to: Cryptozoology-Val id Science? Posted January 7th, 2009 in Politics

I would actually like to bring up an example within psychology. If you look in the 20th century, parapsychology was considered to be an offshoot of psychology. It was as "scientific" as psychology is, which is definately debatable but we will consider it to be a science because the scientific method is used, they use statistics to establish causation, and they believe no theory is 100% infallible.

Continuing on, parapsychology is now considered the red-headed stepchild of psychology. Although there is an institute outside the Duke University campus, it is not accepted by modern psychologists and no studied by parapsychologists are published in peer-reviewed journals. This is in part because parapsychologists did not stress the quantitative methods of research and discovery that are so important to maintaining the integrity of a field.

I set forth this as an analogy. I believe that Cryptozoology is in danger of losing it's status as a reliable field if they are not maintaining strict guidelines on research, discovery, etc. A science is dictated by many traits, a few of which I mentioned above (causality, disprovable, use of scientific method, etc). When a field fails to utilize the tools used by science, it merely becomes a person's spectulation and is no different that following a hunch or gut feeling.

BTW, I heard there are still Tazmanian Devils... amirite??

I don't think wind power is a feesible long term solution. In order for wind farms to operate, we obviously need wind. Now this may seem like a given at this point in time, but we have not done research to determine the effect of wind farms on the west coast of the nation on the strength of the wind on the east coast of our nation.

I am not a scientist, nor do I purport to know the effects of our wind-energy harnessing machines on the jetstream, I just believe we should research other alternatives instead of placing all of our eggs in one basket. Oil is another natural resource we relied on too much without researching the outcome of our decision to become dependent upon it. I'm just saying that perhaps a fair mixture of wind and solar would be prudent.

Who knows, if the Chinese become upset with us in the future, they won't send us lead in toys or melamine in medicine... they'll just cut off our wind supply and thus effectively shutting down the power of the entire United States. Okay, that was a radical example, but I for one would like more exploration of solar power as well as harnessing energy from the center of the earth (forget what it's called).

Response to: It's time to stand up to Israel Posted January 7th, 2009 in Politics

What I really don't understand is why Fatah doesn't get involved.

Seriously, outsiders see the Muslim world as existing in factions, you have the Sunnis, the Shi'a, and other smaller sects (Druze, etc). Because Hamas and Hezbollah are Shi'a factions and Fatah is Sunni, it would be a good time for them to opportunistically strike at the heart of Hamas.

However, besides the fact that Fatah action it would probably result in Egypt being seen as supporting the ZIONIST REGIME; it would probably be the best thing at least for the group.

On a different front, I'm just wondering what Hamas is thinking about in terms of a large scale conflict. The Six Days war was a total disaster, Lebanon is out of the picture, and Syria doesn't have the firepower nor the manpower to impose any sort of threat toward Israel...
