Game Purchase That You Regret Posted April 29th, 2014 in Video Games

Before developing my habit of thoroughly researching online on a new release before buying a game for myself, I made a few annoying mistakes.

My biggest regret being NeedForSpeed Most Wanted 2012.

I had such a fantastic time with the multiplier in Hot Pursuit 2010 I was expecting a super improved multiplier experience that hot pursuit did so well, but all I got was a heap of boring stupidness. No characters, no depth, no customization (hell you can't even choose your car color) You unlock cars by FINDING THEM AROUND INSTEAD OF ACTUALLY PROGRESSING IN THE GAME pffffffffff. And then in the multiplayer you couldn't even decide what type of game you wanted to play. The game would decide for the lobby what to do and you'd end up doing stupid-ass jump or spin competitions with a lobby of people who all they want to do is crash into you.

Besides that complete waste, I have also at some times found really awesome rare games for the original xbox at a store just to find out that the 360 can't play it, and my original xbox is gone. (Beyond Good and Evil, Metal Gear Solid)

Anyone else have a regretful purchase experience they want to share?

Games Becoming Easy? Posted April 27th, 2014 in Video Games

So I've been playing Borderlands and Bioshock lately and they both run off of a re spawn system that essentially takes out any consequence of dying in the sake of progression. I also recalled that in many modern titles lately I had very few instances where I found myself struggling considerably or having to give a harsh effort at a certain point. This got me thinking a bit about games in general in the modern age.

More and more games lately feel to me like they are becoming much more inclined to easy completion rather than a satisfying challenge. With all our new implemented checkpoint systems and such, even when playing at stupidly hard difficulties really eliminate the sense of satisfaction for getting far in a single go and feeling rewarded.

For instance older games give you that rush of adrenaline when you are in a pinch and if you can't perform perfectly you lose the run and have to start over. You look at old arcadey games that threw you onto the craziness of battle and forced you to learn stuff on your own compared to the hand holding and constant tutorials of some newer titles and think, why is the game still telling me how to play?

Now yeah, you could argue that the new systems for making games easier makes the gaming experience less grindy and more fluid with less annoying repetition of tasks you already have done, as well as appeal to a larger audience as gaming has become a much larger community, and I can vouch for that, but all I am saying is does anybody else feel the same way about general difficulty in games and if they support/are against this trend?

tl dr: I feel like games are getting progressively easier. Do you think so too and how do you feel about the principle

Response to: Bethesda's carry weight limit Posted April 27th, 2014 in Video Games

Lol its especially annoying on Morrowind where the more you carry the slower your guy actually moves around and impairs his jump height.

In the later ones it didn't bug me as much as well as because I usually try to maintain minimum amounts of stuff in my inventory, immediately replacing and selling when I find something superior but at times I can still feel you in some ways with your frustration.

So I want to modify my movie submission's title a little bit, and I can edit just about absolutely everything about the submission on the project dashboard...except the title. Is there any way to edit the title or am I just stuck with that forever?

Response to: Question About Auras/Classes Posted April 6th, 2014 in Where is / How to?

Thanks for clearing the confusion

Ive been here for a bit now, and you see that a lot of people have colored auras and classifications like 'meloncholy' or 'animator' red, 'gamer'blue, 'musician' green etc.
What exactly do you have to do to get yourself any specific classification? It must be submission/review/voting related, but howso? I've been looking and looking but can not find any sort of index on all of the 'classes'

Response to: Most nostalgic game, that is shit. Posted April 5th, 2014 in Video Games

Dude I totally have the same relationship with Sonic Heroes hahaha. I thought it was so neato as a youngster but looking back it is SO godawful with the whole game teaching you how to play through the ENTIRE GAME, even in the final boss fight!

And the animations and voices and just...I feel you man...how could we have liked that!
Other than that I had a pretty solid game library, but I loved Sonic Heroes equal to the other gems and I have no clue why.

What am I doing wrong w stage size Posted March 28th, 2014 in Animation

So on youtube and newgrounds I've made 2 animations so far and when I upload them black bars are on the sides. I made sure on my 2nd to read up the correct dimensions for youtube which were 1280x720 px and use them, but I still got the black bars as you can see in my latest youtube video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzmAFBIta0o&list=UUqycMFkWrep69SFpaw7YcNA

What am I doing incorrectly

Response to: Help with adobe flash cs6 bucket... Posted March 27th, 2014 in Animation

another thing you can do, when you have bucket selected on the toolbar a circle icon will appear labeled gap size, if you're working on something getting colored and you dont want annoyances of minute gaps you have to keep fixing, just goto the gap size icon hold the click and then select close medium/large gaps. That way it will color even though there's a gap, the program just makes convenient assumptions.

So I just recently uploaded a movie and made its icon a picture I had in my art page that is perfectly clean looking, (http://www.newgrounds.com/art/view/sandattack/tauros-used-surf)

and then when you look at it on my page
(http://sandattack.newgrounds.com/)
the art pieces preview as well as the movie preview's resolution is totally messed up. Why is this happening?

Copyrighted Music Question Posted March 9th, 2014 in Animation

So I'm putting finishing touches on this pokemon animation I'm about to publish on both newgrounds and youtube, and I want to use as well what would you expect some retro pokemon game music to pepper up in the back during all the action, but I don't want to get my butt swatted with copyright. I see many videos on youtube use music from games, so if I try to use some music from say Black2/White2 Or Ruby/Saphire/Emerald or perhaps a remix tune, will I be flagged on youtube, even if I credit/site the source and link it on description? (I know in many cases citing and linking doesn't help you at all but just saying)

Mp3 Import Flash Cs6 Issue Posted March 5th, 2014 in Game Development

So I have been using flash CS6 for a while now but I have forever struggled with this obstacle of this inability to import MP3 sound files to a flash project. The issue is that when I select the sound file to import into my library, I receive a message error saying
"One or more files could not be imported because they could not be read"
Because of this I have no other option but when I want to add audio to my animation I have to go to a mac computer at my school that has premier pro CS6 (Importing MP3 on flash on the mac doesn't work either) just to add the audio, and well summer is nearing and I dont want to be stranded unable to put sound in stuff when I leave!

I have researched this issue a bit, I understand that I need to reformat the audio files to a type flash is compatible with? but each time I see a solution they recommend obscure and different programs I need to download and I just don't know what to trust.
Thank you in advance if you have anything to say to help out,
To reaffirm I am using a Windows 7 Laptop w/ Flash 6, error message screenshotted below

Sega Genesis/gba Emulator Site Posted March 3rd, 2014 in Video Games

Wanted to share this with any of you people out there who are big fans of gameboy advance or genesis games or even never played them and are looking for some retro experiences,
I was browsing through the internet a couple months before I came here on newgrounds and stumbled upon this website, it has every single Sega Genesis game in emulator form online for free and completely safe to play, I've played on it for about 2 months now and not experienced any sort of risk,
Link below

Games I highly recommend to play:
Sonic 1 2 and 3(with knuckles)
Streets of Rage 1 2 3
Atomic Runner
Kid Chameleon
Castlevania Bloodlines
Golden Axe

And then after about a month later I realize there's a banner on the website saying they also have a Gameboyadvance site!
almost pooped my pants
Link Below

http://www.gbafun.com/

Games I recommend to play:
Sonic Advance 2 3
Crash Bandicoot
Mario Super Circuit
Yoshi's Island
Final Fantasy 4/5/6
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission
Pokemon Ruby/Saphire/LeafGreen/FireRed/Emerald (esp. Emerald)

Again completely free and safe websites to play on
Anyways I thought here at newgrounds there would be plenty of game lovers to properly appreciate a site like this so enjoy pals!

Response to: New to Adobe Flash animation... Posted March 3rd, 2014 in Animation

What you need Ginger is to convert those 4 frames into a symbol first. Look up into the top bars click Insert, select create new symbol, ok. You'll then be inside of a symbol.

Go back to the scene and copy the four frames of your stickguy walking and paste them inside the symbol.

Now go back to the scene, and create a large frame, size depending on how fast/long you want him walking
Look into your library and find the symbol with the walking stickguy frames and drag it into the large frame.

After that, right click on the large frame and select create motion tween. This'll make your frame blue. Now here is the technical junk.
Scroll your red bar to the front of the frame and and move the symbol to where you want it to be at the start of the scene, then scroll your red bar to the end of the frame and move the symbol where you want it to be at the end of the frame.
Later when you want to get more technical you can actually make transformations and add effects to symbols but for now you should be golden with that.

Improving a Piece Posted March 2nd, 2014 in Art

Hi NewGrounds, this is my first week being here and I have recently been working on some art pieces, this one particularly however I feel is missing something. Normally when you make a really good piece some aspect about it just pops, but for some reason this piece I am posting feels like something is holding it back from really standing out, some sort of adjustment I need to make but I can't put my finger on it. Thank you to anyone in advance with anything to say to help improve this piece. I have drawn this in flash, it is a portrait of a good friend of mine.
