That's very unfortunate to hear. I remember hearing that the Live8 64bit beta did not support 32bit VST's and that concerned me for the release of Live 9.
If Live 9 64bit does not support 32bit VST's, that's a huge problem and something Ableton should fix. I believe most other 64bit DAWs can use 32 bit VST's. I guess one could always use Jbridge as an alternative.
I'm considering buying the Standard upgrade mainly due to the fact Ableton is FINALLY a 64 bit DAW. I primarily use VST's and the biggest issue I've had with Live 8 is that it's limited to 32bit and therefore will only make use of 4GB of RAM.....I have 12GB and would like to be able to take advantage of all of it.
I'm more than likely going to try the Live 9 demo first and see if I like it....and if not.....I'm officially going to switch to Cubase.

Hey there everyone!

I'm a film and video game composer...I like writing orchestral pieces and electronic pieces....sometimes a mix of both :) Some of my most recent work was with the Harmony of a Hunter 101% Run album, contributing 2 tracks.
I'm still finding my way around the site but so far this seems like a very friendly, supportive, and talented community. I'm looking forward to chatting with all of you and being a part of the site! And feel free to give my facebook page a friendly "like" if you want :)
If anyone has any helpful tips or advice for someone who is new here, please feel free to share.
Thanks everyone!
I think the best DAW to use really comes down to the individual using it. It really comes down to what's best for YOU and YOUR workflow, work style, and musical needs.
I've used Ableton for 3 years and found it to be easy to start to out with and learn from when first entering the DAW world. But I have also never used many of the DAWs listed in the posts above so I have nothing to compare it to :) I tried Cubase via a trial version and I liked it, but I feel that I need more than the 30 day trial version to really put it through it's paces. So for now I'm sticking with Ableton and looking forward to their upcoming version 9 release.
Another option would be to try out some of the trial versions of the DAWs many have listed so far....this way you can see if you like it and then have no regrets financially if you don't. I believe Ableton, Cubase, and Reaper have timed trial versions. And they are all fully usable during the trial...nothing is restricted.
There's a lot of great advice in this thread and I would do as others have stated....find the DAW that will be able to meet the needs of what you are planning on creating...VST or recording....and then just start using it and see how you like it. And always keep in mind....once you know how to use it, it becomes easy to use :)
Good luck!! And have fun! :)
Here is my submission for the MAC13 Jan/Feb contest.
Thanks everyone, and enjoy.

I have sent a PM with my details.
Looking froward to hearing from you.
Thank you!
I am interested in working with you and hearing more details about the project.
PM sent with my information and details.
Thank you.
I'm interested in joining the team - I'm a composer and mainly write orchestral and electronic music (sometimes a mix of both). But I'm also capable of writing other styles if needed.
Do you still have room for another musician?
Very interested in working with you and creating music for your game.
I've sent a PM with more details.
thank you.
Hey there,
I also use Ableton and would be interested in doing a collaboration. I usually write a hybrid mix of orchestral and electronic....not sure if that style would be something you are looking to collaborate with :)
If so, let me know.
And if you need any help with Ableton in general, just hit me up! I'd be glad to help in any way that I can!
Hi Robert -
Just sent you an email with my details :)
Thanks!
