I suppose this would be good for trans folks, but unless you're in a Frida Kahlo-esque accident, I'm not sure what use a new vagina would have.

I'll be impressed if they can make dicks that can get hard.

I'm wondering how he got the knives into the school. Most of the city schools have metal detectors. Guess they don't. Probably will now. Though people will just focus on metal detectors and none of the actual issues that cause school rampages (bullying, parenting, shitty schools, etc).

Actually, the stabbing almost did kill a girl (and there are four criticals). What ended up saving her is one of her friends was smart enough to apply pressure.

Haven't been on NG as much recently since I've been busy. Now that the weather is beginning to break, we need to start home repairs. Been doing some. The people we bought this house from were also avid gardeners, so I'm trying to figure out what plant is what out back, and if they're still alive. We have either tulips or crocuses beginning to sprout out front, which was a pleasant surprise.

My first LASIK pre-op screening is the day after Easter. Wow. But that's why I probably won't drive back up to see my parents then. Besides, Mom will be swinging by to take me to exams/surgery, and to hang out after I get the surgery. Good thing too, because my husband works the evening shift the week of.

Will also be doing more outdoor stuff when the weather gets warm. We live right by the kayak launch now, and they're opening on the 1st (though I will need to wait a week due to LASIK).

You won't realize it until after you do, but virginity/the first time is overrated. Also, 18 is not late to be losing your virginity. I lost mine two months before my 25th birthday. I was beginning to freak out because some of my college buddies were having sex with their boyfriends/eventual fiances. But I'm glad I waited. I had opportunities in college, but the way those relationships played out, I'm really glad I didn't put out.

I think men have an easier time of losing it than women unless it ends too soon, but I don't think you have that problem. For me, losing it was TERRIBLE. Hurt like a motherfucker. It hurt to walk the rest of the day (this was first thing in the morning), but I recovered and basically threw myself at him later that night for a second round. One other reason I'm glad I ended up waiting for the right guy? I ended up marrying him.

I don't know if that'll be the case with you. But if you're just having sex with some random chick, you have to worry about STDs, potential baby mama drama, and the like. Don't believe her when she says she's on the Pill either. The dark side of reproductive choice is that women will use it to trap a man if they're evil/desperate enough.

Now, on to what you said earlier. I know women don't go to McDonald's to pick up a guy, but slinking away is the wrong approach. Just look at her and smile. Girls really like that. It works outside of work too. Obviously you don't want to come on too strong, but smiling and saying hi is nice. Especially because women tend to have their guard raised against creepy douchebros with pickup lines. Say hi and ask her what she is interested in. Having common interests goes a long way in getting to know a girl better. If you don't have any, ask her to explain some of them ("I don't play softball. How's it different from baseball?") Get her talking, listen to her, and she will like that. Girls and women like being treated as people, not sex objects.

Unless it's one of those "submit your comments" parts of a news program, no one gives two shits about what random folks on the internet think. This is one of the many reasons newsrooms need to get off their asses, turn off social media, and write some actual fucking copy. And they wonder why ratings are in the shitter.

Exactly. George Takei posted this to his Facebook page:

"I take no solace or joy in this man's passing. We will not dance upon his grave, nor stand vigil at his funeral holding 'God Hates Freds' signs, tempting as it may be.

He was a tormented soul, who tormented so many. Hate never wins out in the end. It instead goes always to its lonely, dusty end."

I didn't like the guy or what he stood for either, but it's kind of fucked up to gloat over someone dying.

I suppose paying all that much money for Restasis wasn't too bad. I use the pharmacy at the local grocery store, so they had me scan the card I have with them to track the purchase. On top of everything I normally buy, the gas benefits added up, so I only paid $2 a gallon for gas this week. My husband commented on how I let the money build up, but I think the reason it does is because I work from home, so I don't have to fill up that much. That, and my car is quite fuel efficient. Unless I go on a trip somewhere, I generally only have to fill up once a month.

Someone I know found out Obamacare doesn't cover everything. She's paying out of pocket for her seizure medicine. She did have a good idea though: once I'm on my new insurance, try filing a claim for the Restasis. It may work. I dunno why the one I'm on now doesn't cover it, but we'll see how the new one is.

I went to the Lush store in the mall today and the entire staff recognized me. That's kinda pathetic. Then again, I do have a distinctive haircut and black hair, so I look different from a lot of people. One attendee at a con I go to regularly remembers me that way. Hell, she even knew who I was when I had to skip the con one year due to writing a thesis. I went the next year, and she recognized me. Huh. As for the store, it was kinda pathetic, but it's nice to have the staff waiting on you hand and foot.

That used to happen to me as a teenager when I went to Gamestop. The staff would be all "OMG GIRL IN THE STORE" and basically swarm me. It was weird. That doesn't happen anymore, but then again, I now see female staffers when I go. Plus, I don't go as much because games have kind of been sucking anymore. But I've also expanded my interests to other stuff, and due to being a responsible adult, also don't play as often anymore. Though it was funny when I popped into the store the day Rune Factory 4 was released. The guy behind the counter looked at the cartridge and asked me what it was about. I told him, and he was like, "Huh. I should play this too."

It's official. I'm getting LASIK on April 30th. Wrote a little more about it on my userpage. The only thing that scares me, really, is a microkeratome, but I don't even know if they'd use that.

I had to start taking Restasis since they require you to be on it at least a month beforehand to prevent any dry eye problems that may arise from the surgery. My current insurance doesn't cover it, and the new insurance doesn't kick in until April 1st. One month's prescription? 388 goddamn dollars. My optometrist taught me how to make it last two months, but still...damn.

Allegedly Comcast has a data cap of 300 GB/month, but I have never seen it enforced.

In my area, you pretty much have a choice between Comcast and Verizon for internet, and FiOS isn't everywhere. Verizon flat out said they won't expand it anymore, so they're shooting themselves in the foot since the mobile cash cow is collapsing. I have Comcast right now and I can say the internet service quality is light years ahead of Verizon. Cable is also better than Time Warner.

I had Time Warner when I lived in Ohio. HATED HATED HATED it. And the service guy randomly showed up sometimes at my apartment after dark for a sales pitch every now and then. Yeah, totally not creepy.

Well, I didn't eat for a good part of the day, so I guess I'm on the right track.

I had breakfast like I normally do this morning. Around noon, I headed to the kitchen to go get some lunch. There was a dead mouse there. After an initial freakout, I opened up the trash can and went down to the garage to get the coal shovel, since there was no way in hell I was touching it. I went and tried to pick it up.

It wasn't dead. Not yet.

It was twitching and staring right at me. I dropped it off the shovel, dropped the shovel, and ran upstairs screaming and convulsing. I stayed upstairs until my husband came home and disposed of the mouse. So no, I didn't eat until then. I actually wasn't hungry, but by 4, I was getting a massive headache and a massive sugar drop.

I probably would have been OK if it were dead. I don't need to see any death throes, especially from something we've been baiting.

Somewhat related: One of my friends has a sister who's a cop. Her job is to supervise sex offenders who are out on release. One of the things she needs to do is make sure the residence has no trigger items. Usually this is some sort of porn. But for one guy, she needs to make sure there are no long-necked salad dressing bottles in the house.

Um...maybe it's because I'm not a guy, but that doesn't sound the slightest bit arousing to me.

I might actually watch more of the Olympics this year. You KNOW it's going to be a clusterfuck.

We haven't figured out the exact source, but I think I may know how the mice/mouse/whatever came in. There's been a lot of freezing and thawing, and the ground shifted. One noticeable effect of this is it shifted a retaining wall outside out of place. A preliminary look down the basement indicates the shift may have also pushed some of the foam there out of place too. Which begs the question: why are they ignoring our basement and heading towards the kitchen? There's a radon output there we put some bait near since the output is a water source, but they haven't touched it.

In happier news, today is my husband's birthday. I bought him symphony tickets for Sunday since he's been raring to go to the performance of "The Planets" since it was announced. About an hour after I gave him the tickets, this showed up in my inbox.

I was cooking dinner tonight and a mouse ran across the floor. I screamed so much my husband thought I had hurt myself. I ran upstairs and stood up on my office chair.

Looks like he came in somehow through a pipe in the kitchen sink as there were pellets back there, though there are no obvious gaps. There were also a couple of pellets on the counter too. Now I want to go after everything with bleach. My husband has been cleaning and put out some dCON, but does not seem to be taking the Great Mouse Crisis of 2014 as seriously as I am. Well, maybe not taking it seriously so much as freaking out. It seems to be just the one and very recent. Probably came in from the cold. Doesn't mean I don't want the little fucker and his family dead.

In the meantime, I've taken to clomping around downstairs in an old pair of pointe shoes to be loud and hopefully scare him off if he's nearby. I'm sure I'm being irrational, but we never had mice growing up and this is FREAKING ME THE FUCK OUT.

Response to: National Health Care;birth Control Posted January 29th, 2014 in Politics

Apparently getting your tubes tied is now free under Obamacare (I've been considering having it done around age 35, so I looked it up). Considering the amount of work and how expensive the procedure actually is, it's a bit ridiculous not to be paying SOMETHING, IMO.

Some of the conspiracy theorists are going on about how that's a population control move. Wouldn't it make more sense to give free vasectomies, if that were the case? Think about it. A woman can only carry one baby at a time (unless it's multiples, but that's usually not the case). Pregnancy lasts nine months. After she has the baby, she's down for the count and can't conceive again for awhile. Also, women have a limited number of eggs. But men continually produce sperm and can impregnante several women in one day if he's up to it. There's really no biological downtime needed between a man impregnanting women.

That kind of touches on how men should be able to take more charge of reproduction other than condoms if they don't want children, but that's another topic.

One more thing: birth control is only free if you actually have insurance. Trying to increase the Obamacare rolls, maybe?
