Fli, any chance you can take that course in the summer? I was always able to squeak in classes that way.
Snow today...and next week it'll be 60 degrees. This is crazy. My boyfriend will have an interesting drive here.
It's snowing in my part of Pennsylvania right now.
Dammit, I want a quesadilla. I was considering grabbing some Mexican for lunch today but ended up going for Chinese instead.
It's snowing here. All my life, I was never astonished with snow in October, but I lived in a warmer part of the country for a year and I guess I'm no longer used to it.
I finally have DSL here in my apartment. What's been going on with you guys?
Also, this project has me learning more about Paraguay than I ever cared to. The news updates are a bit useless because all I get are football scores.
I'm gonna get an Internet connection in my apartment Tuesday. The modem should arrive tomorrow or then. If not, I'm gonna have to choke a bitch.
I've been fine. Love my new apartment--I'm the first one to live in it. I have a balcony, but it probably won't be used until spring. Now, if it were just a little more to the side, I could see Lake Erie from my apartment.
What's everyone been up to?
I finally finished my Access project. Finished some Spanish homework too. I have a test tomorrow that I don't feel quite ready for, so I'll just go over stuff again. Which is odd--during the class review, I breezed through all the questions easily.
I move into my apartment Friday. I won't have Internet access for a little while until they run the line through, so I won't be on NG for a bit. School-wise, I can either come home with my laptop or take it to the department's hot spot on campus. But having no Internet should keep me from screwing around and I can get reading and work done. I have a ton of reading to catch up on this weekend. It took a backseat to getting the Access project done on time.
Has anyone worked with the Firefox plugin Zotero? I'm using it for my next project. I need to get over the mental block of thinking it's called Zydeco.
Free speech does not give you the right to be a dick. Besides, I quit thinking prank calls were funny once I turned 14. Go get another hobby that doesn't consist of being an annoying douchebag,
I can't read anything by Dan Brown. Not only are the books implausible, but any English professor would want to beat him over the head for his torture of the language. The Guardian was kind enough to construct a list of his 20 worst sentences here.

You didn't know? I remember last year he was supposed to appear at the Pittsburgh Comicon. All the stuff on the website did say it was contingent on his health, and he ultimately ended up bowing out. He died a few months after that. My boyfriend had wanted to see him at the con, and I remember that.
Tequila is my favorite type of alcohol. I generally go for the harder stuff. On a weirder note, I hate beer. I don't know why, I just find it gross.
I doubt they'd tear the Hulk down. They'd probably just rename it. Spider-Man, who knows.
Universal Studios still owns the amusement park rights to Marvel, so no big changes are happening for awhile yet.
I call bullshit. Sure, college had parties, and sure, people did get laid, but I was too busy with assignments. Those of us who don't/didn't intend to flunk out generally don't go.
Have fun getting chlamydia if you do head to any sort of sex party. And hope you don't get some bitch pregnant.

He is correct: they did go to University of Maryland, College Park at the same time, and he remembers the racial comic flap very well. However, he freaked out about the whole comic due to the glaring continuity error, and I wouldn't be able to see past that either. Other than that, Pittsburgh looks like Pittsburgh.
So, my boyfriend picked up a Mighty Avengers comic at the Comicon. He read it today and there's a scene where Wonder Man (we think) gets knocked out of New York and crashes through the Manchester Bridge in Pittsburgh. Minor problem: That bridge was torn down in 1970.
The only reason he even bought it is because Frank Cho drew it, and he somewhat knew him from college.
Why does my professor insist on using Microsoft Access for this next project? It's a clunky, worthless program that is forcing me to download another Office trial since Access didn't come with the trial that was initially on this laptop. Excel performs the same functions just as well.
Though I do have to laugh at how for one project I'm also doing, Firefox is a requirement.
I lived in rural Ohio for a year and when it comes to the "bitter" comment, Obama was absolutely correct. Those folks, and I'm sure many others, refuse to let things go because "that's the way we've always done things." They refuse to change. For example, may of them refuse to get an education past high school (or even finish high school) because they don't need it to work in a factory. Never mind that all the factories left 20 years ago. They are still convinced the factories will come back. There are more examples, but that should get the point across. Also, posts have a character limit.
As for the whole "special" comment, he clearly meant it as derogatory at himself, and this is another case of excessively sensitive people whining. Remember the hubbub over the "retard" line in "Tropic Thunder"? These were the same idiots. Political correctness is downright ridiculous, but that's another debate altogether.
But when it comes to the police officer, he was dead wrong. The guy was just doing his job, and I thought we were all beyond the race card. The last thing he needed to do was throw the race-baiters on both sides a bone.
So apparently everyone in my class has to set up a news feed for stories about their country. My problem is I keep getting stories about Paraguay's football team.
Need to call about utilities for the place I'm moving into in a couple of weeks. Price point now is complicating things.
Shrike, am I missing something? When were you remodded?
Had a very drama-filled night last night involving a friend. Will probably do a blog entry later, when I'm back from Pittsburgh. My boyfriend's gonna take a shower, then I'll hop in, and we'll go to Comicon.
Stan Lee was there yesterday. Boy, the place sure cleared out when he left. We didn't stand in that gimungous line, but our friends did. I am hearing mixed reviews about whether ticket prices/lines/etc. were worth it.
Boyfriend has a gimongous stack of comics but has spent less than 100 bucks on them since they all ended up being trades. XD I bought some DVDs and two Silent Hill soundtracks that I have been looking for forever. Gonna go raid the floor again today.
Then when I get back, it's time to go do some schoolwork. I think I can make the Wednesday deadline though because I already began work on the project. Other than that it's reading and whatnot.
We all picked countries to work on the rest of the trimester. I will soon know more about Paraguay than I ever cared to. All the good countries were taken. I really wanted the Dominican Republic. It seems in terms of school, my interests are in Latin/South America.
Shoot, I already have a leg up on some folks in class--at least I knew what continent Paraguay is on.
Does it have that metal thingie you can use to pull open bottles, or do you need your own?
I don't use it even though my dad installed one on the bar downstairs. Usually unscrewing a bottle with a towel in hand works.
Also, if you wanna get something more out of Florida, get in the car and go about an hour east to the Kennedy Space Center. Okay, so it's hot and there's a lot of walking, but the admission price is very reasonable considering you'll be there all day. I paid 38 bucks and spent the entire day there. My lunch was also less than 10 bucks.
The Space Center is fascinating. Lots of the stuff they actually used is out for you to climb around on, and if you're into rides, try the launch simulator. Hopefully you can withstand 3Gs of force. Every now and then they bring an astronaut for you to chat with. There wasn't one the day I was there unfortunately. If you're a space or history buff, this is the place for you.
The gift shop isn't bad either. If I were still a kid, I would have wanted some of those space playsets very badly. (Hell, I kinda still do.) They also have fun nerd stuff like the Star Wars cookbook.
I was at Universal Studios Orlando at the end of July. Hot as fuck there, but you're right about the Simpsons ride. I liked Islands of Adventure better. My favorite rides were the Hulk and Dueling Dragons coasters.
When I was there, they had a terrible track record with stuff breaking. The Disaster ride closed to being broken, the Cat in the Hat broke while I was on it (fortunately, they got it working again), lockers by the Dueling Dragons malfunctioned left and right for two days, mine included, and the Terminator movie didn't play the first time, so the actress playing the Cyberdyne rep was beside herself and didn't know what to do. She did talk to us and wing it a bit, so I give her credibility for staying in character.
You're right about the overpriced crap--I was able to get to the front of the lines without paying extra since my room key allowed me to. You'd have to pay to skip lines otherwise. And with the pass I got, it was only 100 bucks for both parks for a week. 95 bucks a day for one park? Fuck that.
A lot of the stuff is useless crap, but I did buy some Terminator stuff for my boyfriend since he likes that.

A friend of mine works in the scheduling office at MSU...you might meet her.
I myself don't know much about it, but my boyfriend lives in Pittsburgh, so I asked his opinion.
His big worries are the protesters and the street closings. Those will make it real hard to get around. So hard, in fact, some of the universities aren't having classes then. They put their fall breaks then. The commuters to the others will have a hell of a time getting to class. For that reason, I doubt many students will show up.
Almost every building within a four block radius of the summit will be closed. Point Park (another university) is being used as a staging ground. (Hence their break.)
Shrike, what kind of paper are you writing? Back during my first run in grad school, I remember writing a very large paper over summer term. I had to have at least 30 sources and at least 20 pages. The nice thing about it, though, was it was one of those papers where you have to put the footnotes on the bottom of each page, so that takes up a lot of space, along with the normal double-spacing requirement. But if you have to use endnotes, that creates a bit of a problem.
Another problem I had was actually incorporating all 33 sources I had. Reading them was all well and good, but I had to cite/use material from each one at least once. Naturally, some are better than others.
It took me that whole summer term to write it, and fortunately, I started grabbing sources from the library early, otherwise, they'd have probably been gone. I had books and papers strewn across my apartment for the entire summer term. When you consider that I had an efficiency that was pretty much the size of a shoebox, this made things unpleasant, especially considering I like things in order.
Looks like I've fallen victim to the DD's review-banning spree. I was dumb(?) enough to review Dadgame and left a completely non-abusive review, so I was confused up until I heard what happened.
Anyone know how it's known who's been banned so they can lift it? I ask since I know some of you are review mods.
Did Roman paramedics call IV's "fours?"

my father is planning to ban phone sex with a proposal next week in D.C., cuz he said it was just dirty and immature, and the govt. tappers can hear them doing dirty talks...
I dunno...if you're a government tapper, it's probably the most exciting thing that they've heard all day. I'd rather listen to that than random conversations while praying they get interesting.
That, and in 1989, the Supreme Court ruled that an outright ban on phone sex is unconstitutional in Sable Communications v. Federal Communications Commission. However, ways of blocking those lines are constitutional. Often, phone carriers block access to them and you have to call the company to get it removed. But who wants to do that? Might as well have a giant sign reading "I'M A PERV."
I have, but if you're in another state, the real thing is not always possible.
I think the appeal is you can actually hear the person and not read text.
