40? Wow, time flies. Happy birthday! Also a scary thought: Nine more years for one of these threads for me.
Talk about upsets today! I was not expecting most of these results. Buccaneers over Redskins? Huh. And WTF happened to the Broncos? Yes, there were key injuries, but a team does not just fall apart like that in one game without some underlying reason.
The Bengals played well today, but if they're going to win the big game, Andy Dalton needs to step it up. As others have pointed out, he's inconsistent. I think all the pieces are there for a win, but Dalton needs to be great. Right now, he's average.
This thread is making me miss booze. I had surgery last week and had to be off alcohol for two weeks prior. Percocet does make me loopy, but I prefer the alcohol buzz. Also, Percocet is quite dangerous.
I have one better than you though--I almost lost my wedding ring at Pat O'Brien's in New Orleans. Now, THAT would have been bad. Some other drunk picked it up and returned it to me though. Very nice of him.
LOL, nice one, ZJ. It was actually a hysterectomy, but I'm on the mend and thanks for taking my suggestion. I'll be off the Percocet after today, so I won't be so damn loopy.
I think I figured out what the problem with the Steelers is. They play down to the level of the team they're playing. If they're playing a good team, like the Colts, they play to win and play good football. But when they play a team like the Buccaneers, it's like they feel bad for the bad team and try to play down to their level to give them a chance, like you'd do with a peewee team. Injuries in key positions don't help either, but there's also issues such as Todd Haley's play calling that I mentioned last week. I have also noticed Todd Haley has been having some clock management issues and has been incurring really dumb penalties as a result.
Go figure it's a night game and it's on the night I need to go to bed to get back to work after leave. Oh well.
I'm back to work on Monday, which is good. I'm going nuts. What I miss is just being able to get in my car and go somewhere without a second thought. I can't drive until the week after next, though it will be my husband driving us to the homestead for Thanksgiving. I'll be off the Percocet, though I'll still be taking the heavier duty Motrin.
I need to stay occupied. I felt bad being reduced to sitting on the couch watching "The Price is Right." (My husband, meanwhile, wishes he could.) I would make a terrible welfare recipient.
I won't be able to bend over for at least another week, which is making tasks like washing my face in the morning difficult without making adjustments. And I can forget about housework, though my husband seems to be handling that OK.
Tom and Wade (though I'd probably have more conversation in common with Wade), ZJ, VicariousE, morefgbs, and Thecrazyman. Though I'm also open to dinner with other cool folks.
You have no idea how happy I am to have that damn catheter out. Only issue now is pain. Today I tried to take one Percocet instead of two. That decision turned out to be premature. One of the incisions is also giving me trouble. I got out of the shower last night and was drying off, and suddenly felt a lot of pain from the area. The thing is, I didn't even rub it. I've been using a hair dryer on my stomach. It's the same incision that bled right after surgery, which makes me wonder. The home health nurse is coming tomorrow and he'll take a look at it.
Right now, I still plan to go back to work next week unless something goes wrong. I work from home, which influences my decision. So I can keep on big clothes and just walk to the other room. If I had to drive to work, I'd still be out another week or two. I may or may not be able to drive to my parents' house for Thanksgiving, but at least my husband can drive if need be.
Speaking of, I think the pressure of keeping the house is getting to him. I usually run a very tight ship around here, and he usually doesn't have to do the daily stuff, just yard work and other chores like mopping the floors, which is not an every day or week thing. I suppose maybe he'll appreciate what I do now, but I had already come to accept the house would be a mess. Though it is in much better shape than I anticipated. I think I may order him a present soon.

Hope you are feeling much better by this time next week RydiaLH.
I'll pop by in a couple days to see if you've posted. Take care.
I would be doing so much better if I didn't have this fucking catheter in. It gets sore. As for emptying the bag...I now understand why sometimes men miss. My poor mom. I thought she was done cleaning up after me when I was a toddler. Fortunately, it comes out tomorrow morning.
The pain is much, much better. However, I still cannot bend over or lift, so my husband has been helping me out. He has been incredible. I wonder if he missed his true calling as a nurse.
Jesus Christ, what is up with the Steelers today? Oh, I bet I know: they're letting Todd Haley call offense. What I have noticed over the years is that when they let Ben be Ben, the team does well. But Haley runs when they should throw and throws when they should run. And while I agree the Steelers need a running game, Haley has them run it at all the wrong times.
Then again, I need to take my Percocet in a couple of hours, so maybe by then, I won't care. LOL. Though, I must wonder: WTF happened to the Bengals? All I know is Andy Dalton shit the bed. I didn't get to watch the game because I was still in the hospital.
ZJ, in honor of my surgery and how awesome the nurses who have worked with me have been, may I suggest nurses for next week's theme?
We need more Sailor Starlights cosplayers. Also, there is an NGer who does an awesome Poison Ivy--I'll see if I can dig her stuff up.
I was discharged from the hospital the same day, never admitted. This isn't to say I'm not having problems, though. I'm stuck with a catheter until Monday because I was still unable to pee seven hours after waking up. The nurses say this is a result of the anesthesia. Yesterday was agonizing, but my pain is much better today. What makes it more tolerable is the nurse also changed my giant-ass catheter bag to a leg back. Unfortunately, that needs to go back on when I sleep at night. Monday can't come soon enough. Also, I'm a little incoherent due to all the Percocet.
Tomorrow I get to go on a clear liquid diet. Fun.
Not sure how long I'll be in the hospital. I'm thinking at least overnight, but it depends on what they find. In the meantime, I'm dreading that someone will congratulate me on the baby I'm not having.

Finland is on the bottom of this group and Hong Kong is at the top, so let's compare them.
GDP per capita: Hong Kong ($37,955), Finland ($49,055)
Average Life Expectancy: Hong Kong (83.48), Finland (80.63)
Education Ranking Hong Kong (3), Finland (1)
Does Hong Kong filter out any "unintelligent" people to get that stat? I ask because the statement that citizens of Hong Kong have no business electing their own candidates because ignorant people would ruin the government really riled up the protesters over there.
One of my coworkers also took a university class while in China. The professor told everyone that only educated people should vote because ignorant people voting would lead to social disorder. He was reciting what the government told him to. The coworker states that he can't really fault the professor for teaching what he had to (or God knows what would happen to him), but it was a real eye-opening experience.
One of my coworkers is a dual US/Brazilian citizen, and lived in Brazil for 10 years. Voting there is also compulsory. Which sounds like a great idea, but according to him, it backfires because people will vote for any idiot just to get the requirement out of the way and move on with their lives. They also, in general, don't do the research needed for an informed vote.
What's also interesting there is to try and eliminate bias, they remove both the candidate's name and party affiliation from the ballot. Instead, each candidate is assigned a random number. To try to get voters to remember their number, the candidates will write catchy jingles with the number in it, and will have staffers troll neighborhoods in cars with stereos blasting the jingle. Kinda makes me happy I'm not Brazilian.
Here's an example of one of these jingles. Believe it or not, this guy was elected.
Apparently living on a hill is not conducive to having a lot of kids come. Though I think the crappy weather was also a big factor. Also, we only had ONE Elsa. Though this means lots of candy for my husband and me.
Earlier tonight, I carved a pumpkin and roasted the seeds. I have my candy ready for tomorrow. This is the first year I can pass out candy as a homeowner, so I'm excited.
So now I'm pissing blood. Which coincides with one of the doctors doing my surgery calling me today. Based on previous notes (and this happening), she has reason to believe I may have endometriosis of the bladder, and maybe the bowel. So when I'm knocked out, they'll be sticking a camera up there to see what's going on. If there's anything major, it would mean more hospital time.

These games ARE nuts today. This is the most fun the NFL has been in a while.
Does ANYONE like those throwback jerseys? Seriously, they just need to burn the damn things. I liked the old Tecmo Bowl throwbacks better.
What a game! I ended up tuning in a little late when Indy was up 3-0. But in that first drive, that was not the same Steelers offense we've seen all year. They actually knew how to make plays. I'm glad to see Ben back to throwing the long bombs (though Andrew Luck also did so to great effect). They kept the mistakes to a minimum, but the two fumbles, as well as Indy's attempt at a comeback in the second half, did have me holding my breath. But that was one of the most exciting games I've seen in a long time. And the scores as well as the other numbers in the game looked more like college football than the NFL. I was thinking that even before the announcers said so.
If the Steelers can manage to knock off the Ravens next week, they'll be in good playoff position. Also, with the Bengals and Browns winning today as well, the AFC North is surprisingly competitive. This'll be entertaining to watch over the next few weeks.
Always happy to see the Ravens lose. (Assuming Cincy doesn't screw this one up...)
When the hell are the Jets going to put an end to the Genocoaster? Seriously. The wheels fell off long, long, ago.

Yeah, I was surprised how the London game turned out. I didn't realize it was an early one (then again, London is 6 hours ahead of EST) and the score was 21-0 Falcons. Then the Lions made a comeback. While the teams featured in London this year weren't all that great (Raiders? really?) that game was quite entertaining. The Vikings-Steelers one last year was surprisingly good too. Maybe playing on the world stage brings it out in some teams? It is interesting to read about how much the Brits like American football. I always thought they liked the other football better.
On a side note, the only part of Denver I have ever been to is the airport. It was the first one that ever had monorails to move people, so when I was there in 2004, I remember being astonished. I do want to visit Denver and the rest of Colorado someday. I love it out West.
The oldest daughter came out and said she was the 8-year-old that got molested by the guy. She also has reason to believe that her mom is seeing him again behind her back, and it sounds like what some family members have been telling her bolsters her theory. She's making some very serious allegations, and if she really was the girl he molested (and I have no reason to believe she wasn't), then I think she realizes what she's saying, and is dead serious about it.
Not that the mom ever gave a shit about her kids anyway. (Exhibit A: beauty pageants.) The reason the one kid is such a brat is because the adults in her life who should be guiding her aren't. I always felt sorry for the kid because she has no chance in life.

No threesome? I am disappoint.

I was dicking around on Facebook and someone told me to. So I did. Holy fuck, what a turnaround. I don't know what clicked, but it seems once they got that first TD, they were all like "Hey guys! We can score points! Let's do that again!" The Texans also self-destructed in the second half, and Fitzpatrick made some really dumb mistakes. I'm unsure of whether they were flustered by the sudden surge or it's just because at their core, they're a bad team. Either way, it was one hell of a game in the second half and I stayed up too late watching it. I paid for that when I had to wake up for work this morning.
The Steelers need to keep Matavius Bryant on the roster. He's performed better than some of the other players in just one game. Though I really can't pass judgment on Ryan Shazier and Dri Archer due to injuries.
I am grateful I at least missed Lawrence Timmons throwing up. My husband was making Ebola jokes, but in all seriousness, vomiting is a symptom of a concussion. If they haven't already, the team doctors need to check him out.
I turned off the game. Too aggravating.
Among their myriad of problems, if they weren't so thin in depth now, I'd suggest they bench Markus Wheaton and put in a receiver who knows what the fuck he's doing. Someone besides Antonio Brown needs to step up.

Then again, they were long overdue to fall to Earth, as that roster isn't that good and Brian Hoyer was exposed as a mediocre QB. I know that this is the NFL, where every player and team has some pride in them, but there is no excuse for them to lose to the Jags like that.
I think my prediction of what would happen after Alex Mack was injured came true. The center is well, basically, the keystone of the offense. Without him, the Browns are going to go into the same slide the Steelers did after losing Markice Pouncey in 2011. Suddenly, the offensive coordinator is left scrambling to try and compensate. And sure, Hoyer can try his damndest to keep the team afloat, but one guy can't win a game (see also: J.J. Watt).
Also: what the hell happened to Cincinnati?
Hopefully the Steelers don't embarrass themselves on a Monday Night Football broadcast. Their biggest problem is Todd Haley as offensive coordinator, but I also can't help but wonder if Big Ben is starting to lose his ability.
Also, I can see Jacksonville going 0-16 this year.

Not to mention the Browns are a good team. At least for the time being. Alex Mack is out for the rest of the year. I knew he broke something in his leg when he had on the air cast and he was being carried, not walked. If he is as important to the Browns' O-line as folks claim, their season is toast.
Also, can the Rooneys PLEASE fire Todd Haley? The offense has been shit since he took over. Other teams have figured out the plays.

That looks painful.
Also, damn, are the Steelers embarrassing today. I get that the Browns are a different team now, but can people at least catch the ball and not fumble field goal attempts?
The Steelers-Browns game tomorrow is the only one that excites me. Every other one is either too lopsided or doesn't really have any exciting scenario going for it. As for the Browns, it'll be interesting to see which Browns show up. They're also playing the Steelers at home this time, which could turn the tables. On a side note, on the day of the Steelers home opener, the Browns fans Dawg Pound bus passed me going up the freeway. I will say they put a lot of effort into that. More than the Browns have in past games, it seems. In all seriousness, I like it when the Browns at least do halfway decently, because a) the rivalry means something again, and b) the AFC North gets more exciting. Lulz will be had if the Browns ever beat the Ravens in the standings. Though, I think we can all agree the Bengals will sit at the top of the AFC North for awhile until the Steelers get their shit together again.
Also, I'm not sure whether I should be impressed or frightened by this.
