A federal judge in Pennsylvania found Obama's executive order unconstitutional.

I realize other presidents (Truman comes to mind) who have used executive orders have later had them declared unconstitutional by federal judges. I have two questions though:

1. Reagan and Bush 41 also rewrote immigration law through executive orders. What makes theirs constitutional and Obama's not?

2. When is an executive order unconstitutional? I realize this is a broad question, but what makes some OK and others not? Is there something in common?

I got my pathology and surgery reports back from the hospital today. Now almost all of my restrictions have been lifted. Only restriction now is no penetration until January 10th. Guess it'll be like me messing around in college all over again. But then will come the fact that I need to rediscover sexuality all over again. I'm just happy I'm doing that while married. I doubt anyone other than a husband/wife would be understanding of that sort of thing.

While the uterus didn't have the lesions of adenomyosis, it was boggy. That confirms the diagnosis. It's not supposed to be. It's a muscle, so it's supposed to be strong and be able to hold itself up, like you would expect any other muscle in the body to be. No, it was unable to support itself and was much heavier than a muscle should be. That would explain the pain and constant peeing. Even worse, it was mobile, meaning it basically moved around like a fish. It's NOT supposed to do that.

What's really frightening is it turns out I had a chronic condition called endocervicitis. I had no idea, and I've probably had it for years. That can cause pelvic inflammatory disease if left untreated, which is VERY serious. The thing is, STDs usually cause it, but I have NEVER had one. All this makes me think: I had pain everywhere for so long, and what was it for? If I had any clue what it could have been, I would have seen a specialist. I had no idea things were this serious. Now I feel like I've wasted years of my life.

Wait a minute. The Raiders beat the 49ers??

From what I'm reading, the Ravens are now leading the AFC North and the Bengals are second. There's probably a reason for this I haven't looked closely enough into yet, but this seems odd and arbitrary.

I also wonder what's behind Hoyer's collapse. Is it just him, or does it have anything to do with all his offensive teammates getting hurt (like Alex Mack)?

Was not expecting that outcome. I will take it though. Seriously, WTF happened to Cincy? They fell apart in the fourth quarter. Prior to that, they were also making a bunch of un-Bengal-like mistakes, like the delay of game penalty after burning a timeout.

Steelers and Ravens won today. Bengals and Browns lost. The AFC North is about to get REALLY interesting.

I'm still mad I didn't get to go to the Steelers-Bengals game in Cincy in 2008 when tickets were only $65. It was a 2-hour drive for me when I lived in Ohio too.

The Bengals definitely have the advantage today, but the score and whatever happens on the field is going to depend on which Steelers team shows up. When they play a good team such as the Bengals, they play to win. But when they play a crappy team like the Jets, they seem to feel sorry for the team and play down to their level. Of course this isn't the only problem the Steelers have, but this is a biggie. If the Steelers won today and the other teams all lost, they could pull ahead in the AFC North standings into a solid second place. Of course, all the stars have to align correctly for this, so I'm not holding my breath.

Lots of folks coming off IR for the Steelers today too, so we'll see how well they can play. Ryan Shazier hasn't really gotten a chance to prove himself yet due to injuries.

My surgery scabs have fallen off so now I have a couple of additional holes around my belly button. They stopped hurting after the first day though.

I go back to the doctor on Wednesday and should have a better idea of where my recovery stands. Hopefully I get the lifting/bending restrictions lifted so I can actually do things like housework and grocery shopping alone again. The only standing restriction will be no sex until January. Shame, because our new bed is being delivered Friday.

I got the final bill from the hospital. The hysterectomy and everything involved cost $30K. My responsibility is $900 since I maxed out my in-network coverage for 2014. I wouldn't have had I not had to play Dr. House and run around trying to figure out what was wrong. I should have gone to the gyno in the beginning. Oh well. At least they're covering the follow-up appointments.

No more pain, and no more bleeding. I am also feeling like myself again. It's well worth the $900. I have my life back.

Speaking of the division, what in the hell happened to Pittsburgh and Baltimore? I know that the Steelers got shredded by the Saints offense, but the Ravens have no excuse for tanking against San Diego in the last second to give away a game at home.

Lots of missed opportunities for Pittsburgh. Why did they not go for 2-point conversions more than once? And how is it a team can come back from a bye week TOO rested? But two other major factors were the injury to Big Ben's wrist/hand in the first half, and the wind. The wrist injury made his throwing much less effective, so they switched to a running game to try and give him a break. It wasn't too effective. Secondly, the wind was responsible for a missed field goal that, all things considered, could have tied the game after the way things went.

AFC North is still extremely tight. This will be interesting to watch.

Walked around the mall and had my first long walk two weeks post-surgery.
Bought two Christmas presents in the process.
Made friends with a cashier at a store I frequent who had a surgery very similar to mine.
Called home.

So, considering how much pain I was in two weeks ago and was unable to do, I feel quite accomplished. Especially the Christmas present part.

You know what? Bye weeks suck. But at least there'll be movement in a tight AFC North. Will be interesting to see how it goes. As I predicted, the Bengals-Texans game is close. And the Buccaneers are beating the Bears? Holy crap. Then again, the bottom did fall out of the Bears team some time ago. Packers-Vikings is looking like a good rivalry game. Shame I don't get that over here. I love intense rivalry games. Also, it will be interesting to see how Bills-Jets goes. The Bills were unable to stay conditioned due to not being able to get to the facilities, and they're all away from their families now. Both are going to take a toll on their performance. I just look at the lake effect snow and nod knowingly. Being born and raised in Northwest PA, lake effect snow has been a fact of life for me. I've seen some crazy shit over the years.

In contrast to ZJ's pic, here's Asia Carrera. She has fake tits that look good AND is aging well. Win-win!

When I lived in Ohio, there was a factory owner who liked hiring Hispanics when he could. The locals were all pissed he didn't hire more white people. His rationale? Unlike the white people in the area, the Hispanics showed up to work on time, did what they were told without mouthing off, and were OK with what he paid ($12/hr IIRC). I think that's why a lot of businesses hire illegals or H1B visa workers. Let's face it, we have become a nation of entitled whiners.

But illegals doing the jobs Americans refuse to do may be another thread topic altogether.

Response to: Are people entitled to free water? Posted November 19th, 2014 in General

If I don't pay my utility bills, the utility gets shut off. This is not a difficult concept. Detroit had a moratorium on shutoffs so people could get on payment plans. Didn't bother getting on one during that period? Tough shit.

My bimonthly water bill runs anywhere from $70-$110, give or take time of the year and our water usage. For water bills to get into four-digit numbers, there has to be a long period of nonpayment. They're not shutting off the people who missed one bill. It's an extended period of time that these people haven't paid. On that note, EVERYONE who doesn't pay needs to have it shut off, whether it's a sports team or the house on the corner. Water, in and of itself, is free. But if you want water treated and piped to your house, that is a labor-intensive process that requires infrastructure that also needs maintenance. The people who treat the water and maintain the pipes should be paid for their work.

No, the banks and the auto companies did not ruin Detroit. What did was decades of mismanagement dating back to the '50s that came to a head a few years ago. Between embezzling government workers such as Kilpatrick, unrealistic pensions, and general refusal to be fiscally responsible, Detroit made its own bed and needs to lie in it.

Then the problem with the Big Three is twofold. For 30 years General Motors refused to make cars that people actually wanted to buy. Then the UAW killed the golden goose. I think one of the reasons Ford is still doing well is they flat out told the UAW folks working for them that their demands were unsustainable and the company would not survive. Cooler heads prevailed and they're doing well under a renegotiated contract.

Because of this situation, all the "makers" who could left town, and the "takers" stayed behind. It's true that a lot of them can't pack up and move, but these are generations of people who have lived off government cheese and see no reason to be responsible for themselves. God forbid they actually have to pay their own bills. Why bother being responsible and mature when you can just whine and protest? (Of course, this goes for many folks worldwide, but the entitlement mentality is especially prevalent in Detroit.)

EDIT: Meant to clarify: The Big Three and UAW did not kill Detroit, but your largest manufacturers facing bankruptcy is not exactly the way to keep your city sustainable.
