Topic: Selling beats?

Posted: 08/13/08 02:42 PM

Forum: Audio

To be honest, your best chances of getting noticed first, is to hook up with a local emcee or vocalist who can work with your beats, get a demo/ep made up, start passing it out on the streets, in your schools, even to any local hip hop stations. Then get a website made up, or even a myspace will do for starters, then when people ask you what you've done and why should they buy from you, you'll have some more cred to throw back other than good reviews on NG.

By the way, you've got the tallent, I enjoyed your sounds. Keep it up.

another good alternative to the generators is to learn your arpeggios, it's not too hard, as long as you know what the chord progressions are. But aside from that, most vst pluggins have an arp option.

first, did you set your midi inputs to the Edirol PCR ?
Second, if not, which program are you running it with?

Also, I have no idea how well it works with Vista, I have the pcr-50, and it works great with everything I use. Let me know how it works when you set the midi inputs to it.

Topic: whats the best

Posted: 11/25/07 08:48 AM

Forum: Audio

I would really recomend the M-Audio's 'studio pro 3' speakers. The only problem with them is that you'll need to do some creative wiring to get em hooked up if you dont have a good hardware soundcard or audio interface. They usually run for 99$ for the pair. But trust me, if you're just running off a computer, it'll be more than enough. However if you're planning on making music in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, than maybe a multi speaker set would be best.

as for the two brands you mentioned, I'm honestly not a fan of either as far as audio products come. But it all depends how much you're willing to put down for it.

Nice, did you know he was going to use your song?

Yes, they actually approached me about the project a couple months ago. They are really good guys to work with, and I hope to be doing more work with them in the future. :)

Anything that is sequenced is midi ;)
But I'm assuming you are referring to your soundcard's gm sounds.
I love using the midi channels to compose and arrange, it saves alot of cpu, then when you're done, just throw the notes into EWQLSO Gold, or Colossus :). It may add an extra step at the end, but it saves alot of trouble when you just want to compose and not worry about technical issues.

I don't find that this site does alot to support it's musical tallent. weekly features are alright, but really, they only seem to see the audio portal as a resource for the flash, which is alright.

Maybe I'm just bias because beatport and itunes are more supportive. but hey, they give you free space, it's all good. Just doesn't look professional if that's what you're shooting for.

All in all, it's an alright site, mostly about the flash though :)

If someone sampled my work, and creditted me, and didn't make any money with it, I wouldn't care as long as I knew about it. But the majority of music sampled now days is either old stuff that isn't selling anymore, or crap on TV or radio, of people who just want to make money (again, not always).

Even top 40 stuff is sampled without credit because the major labels want to make the artists seem more creative than they are, most of the time.

I've never really produced Trance, but one of the main things I hear as a fill in a Trance song is an appregio of some sort. Other times I hear a pad. It really all depends on what sub genre of Trance you're making.

that's not what "fills" are. :P

ok, basicly, if you want to make it a huge fill that leads into a breakdown, roll some snares in, reverse cymbol, have like a sweep effect too, than put a kick with all the mid and high eq'd out, and have the bass boosted up, than have it kick as soon as fill is over.

hope it gives you some ideas, just listen to any good trance.

Serious Sounds, Trance Addict, nuff said. . . Newgrounds is like the little leagues of music production, not saying everyone here isn't good enough to move up, but you wont get anywheres if you just stick to this place. I'm only here because I'm looking for work doing audio for flash movies/games, because it builds up a cheap portfolio. If you want to get serious 'no pun intended' google serious sounds, register for free, and read everything in the production help and the such, don't go posting noob questions, because then no one will even talk to you if you break the rules like so many people here do.
And, if you make trance more specifically, Trance Addict is another good place to go.

this wouldn't be the best place to be asking for vocalists, check on actual music forums where there's more artists on and more involvement,

Liks Serious Sounds, Trance Addict, and the such.

Also, doens't help that you're double posing the same topic...

get a good audio in hardware, get a decent mic, and mic your amp. if you want to record it dry into your computer, and want to add effects in later, look into getting guitar rig 2. if you run the guitar direct, you're likely to lose the sound of the tubes. Cheers!

search for "pizz" sample, it's a rather old and very common sample, been used by everybody, from house to trance, hip hop , you name it it's probably been used in that genre.

yeah, it's just the sound of the dead signal. if you take a sine wave and play a high Bb you'll get the same pitch, and a close copy of the sound. But it's best to get an actual recording, or actual sound of it.

Read upi the differences on the site. essentially, producer gives you all the features, and XXL gives you a bunch of "in my own opinion" crap plugins. But they are good to get you started.

Or use Hardware =)

look up Tapco, they have a good audio input/output, and works great for running your audio into your monitor speakers. But if you're not going to be getting into it seriously, than I wouldn't recomend getting the speakers and hardware and the such. but for best results, Look it up. :)

all digital.

For the chords I used EWQL Colossus, definitly worth looking into.
And for the shredding, I used V-Station, a standard saw wave, and ran it throught guitar Rig.

Topic: New headphones... wasn't worth it?

Posted: 07/20/07 08:28 AM

Forum: Audio

Ok, the reason because you feel that there isn't enough high end, would be because you're so used to hearing it due to low bass. Now the way you hear it through the headphones is a more accurate listen and is closer to what it would sound like over monitor speakers. All I'd recomend doing it eq'ing your tracks so that the high end comes out a little more. Simple.

Cheers :)
