I chose stick arms so I could do a lot of motion with them with ease, like Cyanide and Happiness. Though I could easily bump it up to something like adventure time and maybe alienate less people with the design.

He doesn't find a brand new suit of armor, but his armor changes in small ways as he progresses.

Any specifics on what you feel could be improved?

His dad was killed by a dragon, he has taken his armor (which is too big for him) to go on a quest seeking revenge for his father's death. He's got a lot of heart and spunk, but he doesn't have the skill or girth to take on a quest of this magnitude.

The armor is a metaphor for filling the shoes of his dad. In the beginning it will bounce around him clumsily exaggerating how over sized it is. As he grows, the armor will "fit" better. When he gets aggressive and goes into battle mode the face plat comes down and his armor heats up to red. The face plate has scorch marks (from being burned during the dragon killing his father) that make it look like a skull, which represents his father's soul being burned into it. When he is lonely he talks to the helmet as if it was his dad. The small horns on the helmet are from a mythical beast his dad killed that is a mighty prestigious kill, people make fun of him at first for having small horns until they realize where they came from. Once again, another sign his father has big shoes...or armor... to fill.

Character Concept Posted July 11th, 2014 in Art

Hi,

Trying to develop a character for an animation, keeping him intentionally simple so I can focus on more complex animation motions.

I wanted to get opinions on the design of the char. Thanks!

Hi,

Is there any shortcut, method, or extension to allow you to create a graphic from an existing drawing on multiple layers and retain those layers?

I know you can copy and paste layer by layer into an empty graphic, but that's time consuming.

When to use scenes? Posted July 4th, 2014 in Animation

Hi,

What is the optimal way to make an edit in an animation? Cutting from one shot to another. Should each scene be a new shot, or should I do multiple shots per scene?

Any tips are welcome!

Thanks!

haha animators are filmmakers to, i myself am not an animator. I've done animations! just nothing worthy of newgrounds ATM

I shouldn't post it in general? Your link takes me to "news" I thought maybe it could go in video games instead, but wasn't sure haha

Minecraft Machinima Posted September 8th, 2013 in General

Hey guys!

So i'm a filmmaker, but not really an animator, just an admirer. Normally I do live action films (I'm a VFX artist and a production company) but I made a Minecraft machinima with some of my buddies.

Let me know what you think!

Bca Fx Animation Course Question Posted May 12th, 2013 in Animation

Has anyone checked out this FX course by Adam Phillips: http://bitey.com/2010/08/bca-fx/

I was just wondering if membership gave you access to all current uploaded content at once, or if you only get one set of files each week sent to you.

Speed Animation Techniques Posted May 1st, 2013 in Animation

I went through the NG tutorials and I'm going through Adam Phillip's academy series. One tutorial that stuck out to me was the speed animation tutorial here on NG, I was wondering if anyone could suggest books, sites, or other tuts that offer more insight on speed animation?

Thanks!

I'd suggest skipping that first step. There's not really anything you can learn from tracing that you can't learn by freehanding, and it's better to get more practice in freehanding.

will do, thanks.

Tips for Action Poses Posted April 29th, 2013 in Art

Hey,

So I know practice is the best method, but practice doesn't go very far when you continually make the same mistakes. I seem to struggle even when drawing primitive shapes.

I'm trying to improve my action poses in order to get better key frame animations. I've done some clothed figure studies in the past, but that's about all I've done for figure study.

Any suggestions on techniques or books I could get to improve my action poses and get natural looking poses in my cartoons?

Thanks!

Is it possible to select multiple layers and create a movie clip while still retaining the same amount/organization for layers in the movie clip?

Kind of like a pre-composition in After Effects?

Trouble with 8-bit Walk Cycle Posted April 2nd, 2011 in Animation

So I'm attempting a 3 frame walk cycle with my character and no matter what I do it looks awkward, like he is limping haha

I was wondering if someone could help me out. The sprite size is normally 16x16 but I blew him up so you could see him better.

Platformer Collision AS2 Posted December 7th, 2010 in Game Development

I was wondering if anybody could point me towards some really good platformer collision tutorials. I've been going through AS:Main and many other tutorials for the past few months.

I want to try and make a platformer. Nothing fancy, just jump from point A to B. However it seems that I always run into collision problems with every tutorial I read.

I was wondering what method of collision I should use to avoid the following:

Bumping Slightly into walls
Floating or colliding when there is still room in between my MC and the object
Falling Through Floors
Clipping and Falling through corner

thanks for any help in advance!

Thanks a lot guys! I actually do want to go into action movies, but not Michael Bay style lol

I'm glad you guys liked it though, there's a lot of talented artists on newgrounds so I hold your opinion higher than others

Response to: Batting Average? Posted March 18th, 2010 in Where is / How to?

Yeah, I was just wondering because it is still in the collab rules section, is there an updated rules section?

Response to: Batting Average? Posted March 18th, 2010 in Where is / How to?

So is the batting average still a requirement?

Response to: Batting Average? Posted March 18th, 2010 in Where is / How to?

Oh...

Well is there an updated list for the collab requirements anywhere?

Batting Average? Posted March 18th, 2010 in Where is / How to?

Hi, I know the batting average is the average of your top submissions, but which submissions does this include?

Art, Audio, Flash?

I ask because in the future I would like to do a collab when I meet the requirements

Hi, I have an animation with several scenes and my friend mastered the audio, unfortunately the audio is meant to match the entire animation.

How can I start the audio in scene 1 and have it run throughout all scenes?
