Did a bit of work on my part tonight. Getting the storyboard down solid with some animation. Here's a teaser image.

No stress about time, so I can still wait that one out. Here's a preview.

Looking great Wirlguy, really like the way your part looks so far. I'll have some free time over the next couple of weeks to finish my part up, should be getting a new teaser to you all by the end of tomorrow.

We all have about 16 days until the deadline Oct 28th, to get our parts done, how's everybody else coming along?

Not really sure it's needed, I see what you're saying though. It could fit in, but I think it's fine the way it is, since it's just a short warning that people shouldn't remember.

Looking sweet so far man, one thing on the anatomy though. The arms on the girl look a little off, I think it may be the top part ( biceps ) being too long. Her elbows should come just above where her belly button should be. The total length I think looks "about" right, just that top part I think.

At 10/4/14 06:37 PM, Whirlguy wrote: Honestly, I think it's very corny. The laugh is the best thing about it, but it doesn't quite fit with the type of atmosphere you seem to be going for. I really like the panning though. If you want to add voices, they should probably sound robotic, since you're going for a sci-fi theme. Speaking of which, you could give the screen a more sci-fi appearance. And you could also add some ambient noises, if you're up for that. I imagine droning noises, and a couple of faint bleeps as the timer runs out. Maybe the muffled voices of scientists talking in the background?

Thanks for the feedback, this is the type of responses that I like to see. I'm glad you said something about background noise n' what not. I meant to add some in when I was making it. Anyway, here is the new version. Thoughts?

Hey, I really like those! Nice concept as well.

I really like the sketches and the idea you had. The first one I was hoping to get some twisted psychological parts so I could end it with the girl just standing up and walking out of the room like nothing happened. ( The was going to be the ending if I had more contribution ) Would have been a mind f*** to the viewers, like... what??

Don't worry Snickity, The "credits" aren't finished yet, like I mentioned originally, I only included some of the base people that I had been working with recently. The intro isn't "finished" because I'll be adding in everybody once I get the final piece put together, for instance if somebody doesn't finish their part or drops out, I can easily swap out names. There is still more room for credits to be added into the intro.

Ah holy crap you're right, the legs in my sketch are super long. Great catch, I hadn't even noticed myself haha, totally did the start of the storyboard late at night.

I'll get you added in Snickity, to avoid confusion. I'll be adding you to the intro credits, but in the ending credits have you under "Ending Credits By: Snickity" since you did a great job on getting the ending cinematic done.

Quick question of preference to you all; with my parts I've been doing a great deal of sound design in Audacity, and have been attempting Left and Right speaker effects. Before the "Intro" scene. I'm thinking about having a "Turn down the lights and get your headphones" voice acted with text. To which I'll want to make sure everybody's parts are maintained with their audio as well.

Maintain our audio, by god, what do you mean?
I want to make sure you have your levels capped and there aren't going to be any sounds or voices that will kill speakers or headphones. Make sure your levels are adjusted and the voices are easy to hear over sound effects.

If you need help I'll be happy to assist.

So the question essentially is, are you guys able to manage your sounds so I can make that intro to instruct viewers to get their headphones?

Response to: Halloween '14 (girl In A Room Ii) Posted September 30th, 2014 in Collaboration

Now that I've gotten the intro scene nearly finished, I've started working on my part, just getting a rough storyboard figured out before I start the sound design. ( current sounds are placeholders )

Everytime I watch the intro I get goosebumps. The shot where the girl is shown from top-view, spinning in circles with the pink dress on bothers me a little though. I think you could make the scene look a lot better if you moved her across the grassy background, instead of keeping her in one spot. Awesome stuff apart from that!

Great catch on that scene Whirlguy, It's been bugging me too a bit. But you gave me a great Idea and now I have this.

"Both" of my ideas are fairly simple, you've probably seen the intro already, dream like thing. For my actual part, the girl will be in the room, then the antagonist will appear and start monologuing, he'll say some creepy things, then he'll cut into her, ending the scene. very simple, but hoping to make it creepy as hell.

If you're going for the malnourished look, try giving her some pale skin as well, might go well with showing that she's been in there a while. Also the gradient in the hair may be a bit strong, I'd recommend out of personal preference to bring the light grey down a tad so it doesn't look so forced. Other than that should be interesting to see your part come together.

Flashes to the first GIAR episode

Cool man, not too bad for being new-ish to flash. A few things that I can pin-point that may make your work "pop" in the future.

- Life Drawing

Work on your life drawing a bit for your anatomy, It's something that I constantly struggle with myself. But remember that the human body has distinct proportions. Now if you're going for a certain style of drawing such as Whirlguy where the porportions aren't intended to be realistic this doesn't apply. But with your part, you seem to be shooting for realism. So quick reference for help.

Measure your drawing's head, ( height ) the height of the head will represent ( x ) in this example.

Head = x
Body = 2(x)
Legs = 3(x)
Arms = 2(x) + hands ( so slightly longer than the body )

This will hopefully help out a bit, your part looks fine so far, my only grievance is some of the art that I believe isn't complete, for example she's missing arms in the first scene. Also her legs are too short in the first scene as well, use the above chart to hopefully fix those out.

I'm interested to see where you are going to take this one, should be interesting.

My concern is essentially the quality of your microphone, IE- no feedback, white noise, and crystal clear voice. Especially for sound effects in my part. I'm thinking my part will essentially go like this.

Girl Standing in the middle of the room looking around.
Something runs behind her

Girl: "Is somebody there?"
A Wall opens up revealing a window, outside you can see outer space, in orbit of the earth.
Girl: ( in awe ) "Whoa.."
As she's staring out the window in wonderment a life form appears behind her.
Alien: "Greetings"
She tries to scream but has gone mute
Girl: ( startled gasping scream sound )
Alien begins to monologue
Girl: ( Various muffled sound effects, grunts, moans, etc ) [ as if in a conversation with a dentist, but mouth sewn shut ]
Alien becomes terrifying
Girl: ( Muffled scream of pain )

Sounds great SailorSilverStar! I'm sure plenty of us could use a Female Voice actress right now. I might actually have some work for you myself once I get my entry part organized. I have a lot of dialogue in my scene from the antagonist but the girl is muted, I could use mainly "sound effects" for her, but I'll PM you when I've got a script/storyboard for you to work off of.

Do you have a demo reel you'd like to post here so people can gage your abilities?

That's how it tends to go with my parts as well, but it's usually not so bad because in horror there are a lot of long "drawn-out" scenes with little movement. So animating it shouldn't be so bad in the end.

Not a problem, if you're having trouble drawing the lines free-hand. Don't forget to use the tools flash gives you, the line tool is a great way to get your base lines down perfectly, just adjust them as needed.

The dragon riding guitar god was the Dragonborn. I made that animation when Assassin's Creed 3, Halo 4 and Skyrim first came out, which was at the start of school. It was a part of the "Just a Monday" collaboration.
