We saw it coming from a mile away. If you've heard about V-tech Rampage, a Flash game simulating the events of the biggest shootout in the U.S., you know that some lawyer from somewhere would stand up and say something against it - even if he has no idea what he's talking about.

Coming from New York, Senator Andrew Lanza came up to say something against the game. "There are certain things in life you don't make light of and should not be turning into a game. It's not a game, it's a tremendous loss of life."

We may share his sentiment, but we know more than asking retailers and manufacturers to shun the game. He even compared V-tech Rampage, a Flash game made by unemployed 21-year old Ryan Lambourn (Sydney, Austraila), to upcoming commercial game Grand Theft Auto IV.

As if unfamiliar to the gaming scene, he commented "You've got Grand Theft Auto where you murder police officers. To me, I can't imagine people marketing and distributing it, and putting it in the hands of kids, but it's happening." Apparently, he has no idea about Flash games that thousands of users create everyday, to compare it with actual commercial games and talk to retailers, manufacturers, and websites about it.

Well....I guess this was really bound to happen. Well, I would love a comment on this one from PigPen. :P Is this Mission Failed or Accomplished? :P Oh and I'm for keeping it on NG, after all, it's a Flash Game, there's always a little X button since no ones forcing you to play it.

That's like saying, "Damn, I have a wart on my hand, hope I'm killed soon." In other words, V-Tech can be taken off of Newgrounds and was not made by Newgrounds, so shutting down NG is retarded and illogical. Thanks for being a douche.

Augh some of you are unbelievably naive. A number of people have said how it was a joke.

Just because he puts it there and then states "it was a joke", that doesn't automatically define it as a complete joke.

Does ANYONE here honestly believe that if someone sent him money he was going to give it back?? NO. Of course not. So just because he didn't get any money, that doesn't make it a joke. If he had gotten money he would have went with it, but after he saw it was failing, hell, why not try to make it look like a joke?

All very valid points, but as it stands. Nothing has happened. Not a single donation, even before he released the detail that it was just to piss people off. And you're right, if it had succeeded, he might have actually rolled with the idea. He would have kept the money, because by then, it would be his, but I still have a bit of an idea that nothing about where the game stands now and where it would've been if the money had gone through wouldn't have changed his mind about keeping it. It's his game, it's the interweb, it's his to roam even if it's "Cold" or wrong to others.

Okay, these are valid points if you had read the previous forum instead of coming out guns swinging with "OMGHEWANTS$$$!?!" Because in truth, yes he does want money, and in the end it was a joke, a joke to piss off tight-asses and people who don't read. He's not going to get money, and was proven by the fact that no one has donated to the cause of taking down the game. So much for big speeches and taking off the game. I would love it if Ross could tweak that message for the sake of people like you who just noticed the topic.

A triumph of free speech and creative freedom. May 12, 2007
Reviewed by: AstralProjection

Overall Score: 8
I put close to zero credence in reviews due to various spam groups propagating their agenda of awards manipulation and the vast morass that is ignorant, unquestioning public opinion (amongst other things), but I feel compelled to review this flash despite the almost inherent futility of the act.

First and foremost, I commend you on how you conveyed the events of the massacre. People playing the game had to follow a rough parallel of the final day of Cho Seung-Hui's life to advance the story. You included some popular conjecture of Cho's motives that has been circulating around the internet into this storyline, but that definitely fits the bill stylistically considering the various internet slang and memes referenced throughout.

While the pixel graphics were adequate the sound is where you really excelled. People familiar with the case will instantly recognize the song "Shine" by Collective Soul. Cho listened to this song compulsively and even inscribed the lyrics on a dorm wall. During the second phase of the game that includes a stealth-based theme, Mr. Brownstone is played. This is a reference to the name of a disturbing play written by Cho. At Norris Hall, where the main massacre takes place, there are many witty aphorisms you included that Cho seemingly thinks to himself during the massacre. Some of these include the extent of the damage he inflicts, the killing of false idols (which he mentions in his manifesto), and of course the Zerg "bullet" rush. A particularly interesting quip is intoned after killing Professor Liviu Librescu.

All in all, this was a decent game rife with entertaining witticisms that demonstrate this was all done in jest, with no real malicious intent. It was unique and for the most part, well thought out. Sure, some will infer that this was made in poor taste. Maybe a disclaimer asserting sympathies to anyone involved could have been handy to help people generally acquiesce, while simultaneously letting your true intent be conveyed. This deserves recognition, but I fear it will be the wrong type.

On the day this game was created (or so) I read a incredible review, and I thought that if this wasn't said again, than it wouldn't be said anywhere. Unless the original Author AstralProjection were to come to this post and say it again. Simply brilliant.

All I can truly say is this, didn't the lead singer from Nirvana die? And if that's the case I hope he isn't one of those Cliched people who play the Beggining of "Smell's like Teen Spirit" for hours on end while smoking weed. There's simply no point, he's not rising out of the grave any millenium soon.

People who use the expression, "I'm going to kill you." It's never happened once, and it's irritating when people ask me what time it is when they have a Cell Phone or clock with them. Yet the worse (to me) is when I read a review that's so incredibley stupid and n00bish that I simply loose intelligence.
