woO! Team surreal!!

I asked bomtoons if we could do something with the controls... like reverse them or something. He said we could, but thought that might be annoying for the player lol ...what do you guys think? Also... just because we're vertical doesn't mean it has to be top-down view, right?

We need to get the rest of the team in the loop!! Where is everyone?!?

Odds are they said things in a CONSTRUCTIVE, HELPFUL, and RESPECTFUL manner. They didn't belittle and berate you and call it 'tough love'. Quit being a dick. You have it in your sig, so you obviously think people are impressed by it. No one is. You made your own thread showing what you can do... great. Now try offering advice, giving critiques, and being HELPFUL the way those REAL 'professional' were with you. If people respect you, they will be more inclined to give a shit about what you have to say. I don't care how talented a person is... if they're an asshole, I don't wanna hear their crap. Stop being an asshole.

You can learn and study all you want, but if you can't put it to practical use, what good is it? People learn different things in different ways... and in my experience, the most effective is hands-on. Learn by doing. So, yeah... really... use the gradient tool.

I'm assuming you're using flash, so ...become one with the gradient transform tool... once you know how to use it, you can manipulate and customize gradients to get all kinds of effects! I can help you out if you have aim or msn.

This is an old image done in flash using gradients and alpha's.

If you want the .fla file, let me know and I'll pm the link.

Maybe once (or even before) level leaders are chosen, each team can make their own progress thread and leave this main thread for 'global' updates. Otherwise it's going to get way too confusing.

Plus that way it will be easier to keep track of individual level progress. If any particular level's thread dies or isn't seeing as much activity as it should, Kraig will know that he needs to kick some asses, or inject some life into it by recruiting new people to keep it rolling.

...just a thought :P

name them consistently:
[shump] Steampunk Level
[shump] Surreal Level
etc.

hmm... that's unfortunate. I was under the impression that you were ok with everything. Just because we didn't love your menu doesn't mean that you don't have any say or aren't a part of the decision making process. We just want this to be the best it can. So, if you're unhappy with something, you have to let us know so we can work it out... or reach some sort of compromise. What can we do to make it better? ...and you not bitter?

...unless people saw your original question ...which was in another thread, in another forum... they're not going to know what you're talking about.

Why hasn't 'your friend' been scouted? It could be several reasons. He list his website as a game site. He has no email or contact info. He only has 4 pieces of art... conveniently the exact required amount necessary for scouting, no news posts ...all red flags that scream 'this stuff is stolen'.

Tell him to submit more ...add contact info ...add links to his art work on his own site (or places like DA or CA). Tell him to make a news post. There's absolutely nothing about his profile that's personalized. People need to know that there's an actual ...legitimate... person behind the art, otherwise they'll assume it some lame spammer and he'll never get scouted.

At 11/5/09 07:47 PM, the-one-u-dont-see wrote: I know that I'm not good enough for the art portal yet, but I have a suggestion.
Could you implement a feature so that scouting people can ... eh.. anti-scout? people.
Basically, through a press of a button simply inform the artist that he just isn't good enough?

That way, you don't have to wonder if you are just not scouted yet, or won't be scouted at all.

That would be kind of pointless. Everyone has different tastes. Just because one person thinks someone's stuff isn't good enough doesn't mean the next 4 people aren't going to love it. Plus people typically improve over time ...just because someone posts something that's not "portal worthy" today, doesn't mean they won't post something spectacular a month from now. An 'anti-scout button' would just discourage people from even trying to get better ... and no one wants that!!

Every and anyone can be 'good enough.' Post in the art forum... ask for tips and critiques ...and just keep at it! You'll get there! ;)

I never cared for DA either. I only have an account there because someone pestered me so much about creating one that I finally told him to just do it for me... he did, and now I use it the way Wivernryder described... as storage. lol.

I do like that you can see how many views you get (which is never many for me, but still). Here you have to be scouted to see that... lame. You can also see how many and who favorited each piece, as well as download totals. Random info, but still nice to have access to.

Someone... BmK, I believe... mentioned to me (just a few weeks ago, in fact) that DA has forums... 'cuz I didn't even know! lol :P I should really check them out someday... maybe... probably won't.

I recently created an account at conceptart.org. I thought it would be inspiring, but it just makes me feel ...inadequate, so I haven't posted anything. It's an intimidating place. Their chow's, cow's etc. turn out some REALLY impressive stuff... not to say the ones here don't, but theirs are just... ridiculous. Like, "I'm gonna go sob in a corner for rest of my life due to my inferiority" kind of ridiculous. I hate that place.
