Two sharks wrestling seems to be a regular request, so I've done it preemptively.

Reginald, a whore for the day. Posted December 29th, 2010 in Art

I haven't been doing much drawing lately. But now I have my winter break and a day completely free of distractions (except for plowing snow). Time to do something I've always wanted - a day as an art whore!

You should know the drill by now.
' Nothing NSFW
' I'm not familiar with pre-90s American films/cartoons so if you're gonna request something of the sorts, provide a darned reference.
* I'll be working digitally only to cut down the time spent scanning & cleaning
* Have patience. I'll get everything done that's requested within the time limit eventually.
* 12 hours from now (22.30 GMT) I will stop taking requests. Until them, GOGOGO!

Lately I've been doing a bucketload of micro-paintings - paintings done on canvases of varied size, but within 5X5 cm. But being absent-mided as I am, I forgot to make proper scans of most of them before I got them sold >_<.
So, these are three that I had the sanity to scan. A pal comissioned three paintings to use as Christmas gifts and the two upper ones are for him and his loved one (duh) while the lower one is for his friend. Something trippy, he requested.

On a sidenote, these are most likely bigger than life on your screen.

A picture for EENet's (Estonian Educational and Research Network) 2010 computer drawing competition. We had a choise of 10 topics and of those I chose "Habitats disappear, species disappear" (clumsy translation, but you get the gist). For this, I portrayed not the death of the elder, but of those that should keep the species going, chicks in this case.

Fun story - I originally wanted to paint a koala hanging on to a lone tree, which would have been horribly adorable. Then I remembered that koalas don't live in Europe <_<

I've been putting this off again and again, thinking that I'd rather improve more before a thread. But eventually it was realised that this way a thread would never be made. And thus, this is where the line is drawn.

Welcome to Redeemer's realm.

That's a very nice sketchbook you have there. It'd be a sssshame if something happened to it...

Yeah, your computer specs. All those games originate from 2005-2006 or so which makes me quite suspicious of your computer's abilities.
Other than that, try changing the viewdistance (F by default)

From what I can gather, you'd need to know some perspective to get a proper scene done (A nice tutorial here). Aside from that, there's really no cheats.
Remember - when stuck, you can always take a photo of what you want to draw or something similar to itand study it.

Where, when, and how did that happen?

Anyhow, Wikileaks....Congratulations, you showed that you have the freedom of speech. Now sit down, think for a second and start having some priorities. Gossip is one of those things that the world has enough and leaking it is not making the world better. Currently I see Wikileaks as a white knight, fighting a dragon for a relic that could heal the whole kingdom, only to go home and stick the relic on a shelf as a trophy, not bothering to do anything. A job half done.

Yes, I know of the Reuters leak. That's what I want more of.

A question for those with experience in photographic their drawings - how would you go about photographing an A1 piece?
I am trying to get a good picture of a bunch of them (finally thinking of an art thread), but I'm having trouble getting a proper picture, especially due to that cursed fish-eye effect!

and lack of illumination too

....Goddamnit Flowers, what a way to scare people off -_-

Anyway, you're welcome to post more Deamond. One work is a bit too few to get a proper overview.

The only thing I can say about thisone is that while it's well-coloured, it is also very busy. That or it's cropped badly as there's an excess of objects in the image that I can't make sense of.

It has been raining snow for five days straight. Literally, up to today I didn't notice any pauses in snowfall (even though it got reduced to a drizzle at times). Now it stopped raining fora few hours only to continue at full strenght.

I'm currently somewhere between "FUCK YEAH!" and "Oh my god, all that plowing I have to do!"

So, after missing all this anARTchy thanks to sleep and having to piece together the whole of last night, I have to admit that I'm quite disappointed that we're at the mercy of some hot-tempered admin's knee-jerk reactions. I'd expect more reason and tact from staff.

and I thought Luis would be the candidate for hot-temperedness

With that disappointed note aside, I'm curious to see how it'll work out. It helps to filter the previously lounge-only art discussions into their own threads which means they aren't buried by the usual loungey chatter. We'll see

And on a post-rulechange note, I feel that the art forum is getting quite darned varied, and not in the good sense. Look at the first page and try discerning what all of the threads are about. Maybe a tagging system is in order...?

Modern art.

All I got to say about it are angry swear words of the worst kind. Fuck you, Modern art. Fuckiddy fuck fucker sonofabitch twathole arschloch. You suck. You are lame. You are a twat of the worst kind.
Calling yourself "modern" and thus taking away the opportunity for future generations to use the word is arrogance and bastardness beyond comprehension. For that, I hate you, "Modern" art.

As for other aspects, I feel quite meh. Some might like it, but I look at it with apathy and move on.

On a side note - goddamnit Mabelma, don't spam others with your blog. You've posted the link enough for everyone to see and the lack of interest should have been clear already.

What the hell is wrong with you guys? You give the organism those awesome pincers to bite into another cell's cytoplasm and then you forget to give it any means to chase down its prey? Tsk tsk

But I've graciously given it a flagellum so that it can reign terror across the celluar world.

PS - I forgot to add it onto the image, but keep in mind: this is evolution line A

It would appear that my brain has also devolved. Two posts in a row without an image?

Redeemer's art tip of the day: how to ruin your painting

1 - Find a fine-point pen in a store and buy it
2 - Use it to ink an image you finished sketching
3 - Moisten the image in preparation of colouring with watercolours.
4 - Cringe as you realize that the pen is not waterproof and the ink is swimming all over the piece.

And the deadline was tomorrow, FFFFUUUU

Uh-oh, we stirred up some shit. Okay, for those interested, here's the real flow of things.

#1 - We discuss ideas for the first time, Lakratosa has an idea that I just don't understand so he doodles together a sketch of the scene.
#2 - I then take a small pause for thought and sketch up thumbnails for his idea and then one of my ideas (above) and ask Lakratosa which we'd go with.
#3 - We go with the animals and giant-swimming-city idea. Lakratosa gets to do the lineart.
#4 I get his lineart, recompose a few things, fiddle some more and then decide "Fuck it, I'll just repaint". You know the rest.

In response to Luxembourg - I gave the image to Lakratosa to post, partially out of the regret of having steamrolled his version and partially to encourage him.

It's not Re2Deemer, damnit >_<

BRUSHES!

Time for some aimless pondering about art supplies

So, I just spent a better part of the evening sorting out my digital brushes. Pleased with the results, I fiogured I might take a look at how many brushes I have in total. The number sent a chill down my spine - 63. Fuuuuuuck, that's alot. And i haven't even gotten around to renaming and reorganizing them all.
It's somewhat disturbing to think that I have hoarded together too many brushes.

It's still not as much as I had just deleted - 121

This doesn't apply only to digital brushes - I have been hoarding physical art supplies too (and digital software <_<). 21 brushes, 16 pencils (not counting my drawerfull of coloured ones!), 4 drawing blocks for a total of 130 pages and 4 watercolour sets for a total of 66 colours. In addition I also have 6 feathers and 16 floppies (!) and a pack of clay.
I'm not saying this to boast, I'm saying this because I look at all that stuff and I feel....sad? betrayed? I have no definition for this feeling. It's just this disappointment that I've been too lazy to actually go ahead and burn through all that stuff. I wanna draw, but I don't find the willpower to. What madness is this?
Also, I've never been an impulsive buyer, but when it comes to art supplies (even the stranger ones) I've always been all "GIMME GIMME GIMME!" which is disturbing. Never liked losing self-control.

Where I'm getting with this? I dunno, hence the "aimless pondering".

TL;DR for the lazy bastards - Anybody else feel like their art supplies are burying them?

and yes, I am painting on floppies. Await a thread soon

I have my eye on a preparational course for students interested in continuing their studies in the Estonian Art Academy. Looks like a proper one, about drawing, composistion and painting. The only thing that bothers me is that the course spans over two years, but I have only one year until high school ends <_<

This is why I'm unsure about art schools. If I were to take a course that included similar feats of....self-expression, I'd feel horribly betrayed.

There's also an interesting discussion going on at conceptart.org about the.....performance.

with the exception of page 4....Kinsei, is that you drunk posting?

On another note, we desperately need new terms to describe self-expression. Art doesn't cut it, because it throws the aforementioned video, anime and Da Vinci's work into one pool
