Have you ever flown in an airplane? Then you can see the negative impact that humans have had on the environment. In the Washington DC suburban area, there's more open land then what Mother Nature has intended.

Have you ever been to the Shenandoah River, or even the Chesapeake Bay? Then you can see the negative impact that humans have had on the environment.

Have you ever been to a landfill? How the hell is that beneficial to the environment?

I'm not an extremely green person, but we are definetely affecting our environment in a negative way. The Chesapeak Bay and the Shenandoah River, which so happens to both be less then an hour away from me, are both polluted with mercury, but that is not the only problem. Over-fertilization and the runoff from the fertilization has fueled bacterial growth in the two bodies of water, causing a multitude of infections and diseases for the fish that swim in them. Not only that, in the Chesapeake Bay, oyster harvesting is at 1% of what it used to be! And that was all the way back in 1900. This number is not because of governmental regulation, but it is instead caused by diseases, high mercury content, and bacteria suffocating the oysters. As well as that, over-fishing has taken its toll. How can all of this be brushed to the side and ignored?

So let me ask one question.... how have we not affected the environment?

One day I saw it at 79 cents at the local Sheetz. Albeit it it was only one day in the 90's.

mount the fat32 partition (windows partition) in windows, but mount it in read only so that you don't fuck anything up. So the command will be like this if you have the hard drive for the windows partition as Primary on the 2nd IDE channel...

mount -o ro /dev/hd3 /mnt/windows

If that doesn't mount the windows partition, then change the /dev/hd3 around to what device it really is...

Then from there use the copy command(cp) to get the files over

Response to: Inflation?? Posted July 19th, 2005 in Politics

Another thing about inflation is that it also affects loans, whether it be for a car, a house, or to pay off that god awful hooker that gave you AIDs. Enough of the hooker... So let's say that a person gets a 6% loan for a brand new Toyota. It's horrible deal, but bear with me. So this person pays his car loan every month at a fixed rate of let's say $300 a month. Gradually though, inflation at a low 2% rate will cause the price of goods, services, and even the pay of the person will increase around the rate inflation (BUT NOT EXACTLY, and sometimes not even close!) In the last couple months of his car loan, the person pays less per month when everything is adjusted for inflation because his pay is inflation-coorelated while his car loan is a fixed rate.

With me saying this you might jump the gun and think inflation can be a great thing because you get to pay less later on. This is only partly the truth. If there is rampant inflation, then banks will have to close and file for bankruptcy. They just can't reap any profits from the loans, or they would have to charge extravagent interest rates, which scares the customers away. Banks are more into deflation then inflation. They want to have more money in the end then when they initiated the loan.

A quaternion deals with 4 dimensions in 3 directional vectors, and 1 scalar vector. There is no dealing with time in a quaternion.... sorry about that.

Response to: Difference with nfts and fat32??? Posted July 18th, 2005 in Programming

At 7/18/05 01:40 AM, Sinnernaut wrote: I didn't ask what the fuck 32 and 16 ment, I just wanted to know what the hell fat16 and bits had to really do with the situation.

FAT32 is a derivative from the FAT16 file system, with basically a partition table that takes up double the space. That's the only difference between the two partition formats. So I'd say that when mentioning FAT32 that it's also good to mention FAT16, because the limitations of FAT16 will eventually arise in FAT32 with hard drives on a constant rise of capacity.

I just have this simple question, when talking about computers why not go down to the nitty gritty bits? A simple bit can change a lot on a computer, change a flag in a program, change what interrupt is called, and what memory location is accessed. So it seems deemable that you should also talk about bits to truly understand what is occurring. Not only that, if you clearly define FAT as either 16 or 32 bits, then it shows that the partition format is not flexible at all. This can easily be seen in the waste that FAT16 had with large hard drives. Because FAT16 could only access 2^16 different pieces of information, with larger hard drives these little chunks of information had to get larger in order to accomodate with the larger space. Now if the chunks are about 64 Kb, this could potentially waste a lot of space. Look it up if you'd like.... I'll elaborate more if needed.

At 7/17/05 02:31 PM, dELta_Luca wrote: i thought a positive number /0 = infinity and a negative number divided by 0 = -infinity?

That is true, but 0/0 is definetely an indeterminate number. I'm going to assume everyone knows what a limit is....

Let's say we have two functions...
f(x)= 5x/x
g(x)= 2x/x

Now let's determine the limit of each function as it approaches zero from the left and right... At zero, both will equal the fraction of 0/0, but what do the limits look like?

For function f it's going to be 5, and for function g it's going to be 2. Yes this function does indeed have removable discontinuity, but all functions that end up with a value of 0/0 have removable discontinuity. If you have gone through calculus, you know that little trick, plug in the value that the function is approaching. If it's an irrational number with a zero in the denominator, then you know that it is approaching either infinity or -infinity, depending on the signs. But, if you plug in the value and it's 0/0, it's a clue for you to check for removable discontinuity.
Yes this function

What the fuck does that have to do with anything?

It means that FAT32 only has 32 bits that gives the cluster number of where the file is it, so which basically means that there is a 4GB (2*32) size limit. With FAT16, the file size limitation is even less. NTFS doesn't suffer from this size file limitation.
