I haven't read everyone else's reaction, and I don't care what it is, it wont change the fact that I think this is a great idea. I've been having many of these ideas myself, but I never took the time to write them out in that detailed plan. Best of luck, and may your email work.

That's difficult to say. I've been here about 3 years writing music and I'm kinda popular, 33 fans. Really, you just have to write good music, and hope that the kind of people like it that will spread the word.

I'm starting THIS GROUP though, you could try to join it...

allow me to explain. There are people on this website who think that the best way to get their work on the front listings is to vote zero on anything doing better than them. For talented but poorly known artists, this is nothing short of devastating.

I Myself am a victim of this.

My biggest complaint is with people who zero rate songs to advance themselves. I suggest that songs alternately be ranked by review scores, so inaccurate ratings there would be noticed and reported.

Posted: 03/12/08 02:43 PM

Forum: Audio

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am here to talk about a pressing issue. A disturbingly large group of people who believe that the best way to reach the top listings of the audio portal is to target all other (good) songs on the top listings and rate them a ZERO.

You may know these people as "Zero Noobs"

Quite frankly, it is a very serious condition that must be addressed. Only the most popular of artists can survive the attack of a Zero Noob. Why is that? Because a vote has a higher effect on score the farther away it is from the current rating. it would take at least ten five votes to restore a 4.4+ scoring song to its former ranking.

MY MESSAGE TO ALL ZERO NOOBS OUT THERE:

Please realize that when you vote zero on a song, it is supposed to mean: This is the absolute worst piece of garbage that I have ever heard. When a song reaches the top listings, this is most likely not what you think of the song, as even if one does not like a well-made song, they usually see the merit.

My point: If you vote zero to move your competition out of the way, you are submitting an opinion that is a BLATANT LIE, a CRIPPLING BLOW to aspiring underdog artists, and a FLAGRANT ABUSE OF THE VOTING SYSTEM.

MY MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ELSE:

If somebody you know may be a practicing Zero Noob, please make an effort to speak with him or her about it, and make sure they know the severity of their actions.

Thank you for your time, and have a nice day.

Alright, Here's how it works. Everyone thinks of their favorite Audio artist, and nominates them for King of the Audio Portal, or King of an individual Genre, like Rock or Classical. You can also nominate them for:

Most deserving of more recognition,

Most likely to write music for movies

or anything else like that.

I nominate Maestro Sorrow/Rage for King of Classical.

sorry about double posting, but this idea just occurred to me.

why not have a section of the portal where songs that have good reviews are posted. i notice that a lot of songs have bad votes but good reviews. kinda like the underdog thing in the flash portal.

thanks, man,

I'm sorry if i offended anyone working for newgrounds. my main complaint isn't on the audio portal, it's the users who give bad ratings for no good reason. i agree with theReno's last comment, it sounds like a good idea.

you might think that, but that's not the case.

flash movies and games are divided into newest, best, collections, mature, series, and so many different categories that your movies and games are very likely to be seen. plus, even entries that get blammed are voted on hundreds of times.

audio is in only one section of newgrounds, divided only into genres, newest, and best. furthermore, hardly anyone votes on the average song. about 1/20th of the voter turnout for the flash portal. if a song isn't rated well, chances are after it leaves the newest page, it will never be seen again. this is unfair to people who don't have accurate ratings, and i think they deserve to have more exposure.

that may be, but now that people can vote once a day, it's mostly being used by people who give bad ratings unreasonably

more than one vote per person is a very bad idea.

1: this means that people who give low ratings just to move themselves up on the audio listings (and believe me, i learned the hard way that such people not only exist, but thrive) can give undeserving zeros every day.

2: Although technically this means that people can give high ratings every day too, people can't be counted on nearly as much to do that.

the result: Grossly inaccurate ratings.

I think we should start a group that will find good songs that have bad ratings, and judge them honestly and fairly. this will vastly improve the quality of the portal. I have seen MANY good songs fall into obscurity because of selfish artists.

My music got voted to 4.83 this morning, then some n00b zero bombed it to move himself up on the front page. Nearly everyone who reviews my music loves it, and i need some good votes! help me out

people give my songs zeroes just to get them off the front page of the classical section. the people who do hear my songs think they're amazing, but few people see them because they were given zeros for no good reason.

I think that zeroes, ones, and twos should not affect the score of the song until there are at least five of them. that way a song would not be given a low rating unless it deserved one. what does everyone else think?
