Books are AWESOME! You need an imagination. Books were sorta the internet before it was commonplace.

Plus you'll notice if you read a lot of novels that the movies are poor ass substitutes except in some rare cases. The books can always display more gore, more sex, more reality than the movies can because they tend to not go as far in that direction. Plus there's usually more background information, more everything in general.

This is just the kind of partisan bullshit I'm talking about, we should be paying attention to who these people are, and what they stand for as individuals instead of using an Umbrella term like Democrat or Republican.

Just look at Ron Paul, he doesn't really give a shit what the rest of the party stands for. We really need more politicians like him to tear down this system of parties.

Polarization, and racism fueled by partisan politics. Also Rupert Murdoch's goons at Fox News and right-wing AM talk radio throwing around bad information doesn't help much.

Like Full House, Friends, etc... All shows I wish were finally gone from the airways still hang around like cockroaches because other networks buy the rights to re-runs.

Finally, some objectivity. The hardware being overpriced is your personal opinion. Most would say that Macs have higher resale value, and the benefits of having a single warranty, the AMERICAN tech support (which is my opinion). To someone who wants all these things a little extra $ might seem worth it.

You overexagerate the pricing.

Plus look at the new Macbooks, the body is milled from a solid piece of aircraft aluminum. That's good engineering that I haven't seen in other laptop manufacturers.

For people that don't care about those things, maybe it's overpriced to them.

:Really? You have no ammunition for argument so you're gonna make jokes about molestation? And how old are you did you say?

All the ammunition I need to deal with a MS fanboy spreading BS about Mac OS. It was a joke, ease up fanboy.
:Lets just stop this from becoming a flame war and be adults about this. OS choice is a personal thing based on the user's experience. And while no one OS is perfect, there are differen't OS for different people.

And for the record, I tried to end it first but you kept it going. So don't try to act like your any better fanboy. Any of these OS are really only as good as the user anyways.

I have a friend that uses Windows because he's addicted to gaming but he's a smart user so it works fine for him, sorta like it does you I guess.

I don't like waiting 3 min for a Start Menu to open so I can spend my time run Virus & Spyware scans. Plus a lot of programs I use work better on Mac or are only for Mac.

At 8/15/09 05:03 PM, Russ3ll wrote: Also, if Macs triumph then how come Windows has 90% of the market share? What a fucking triumph.

That's a long story. In short, DirectX helped them conquer the gaming market, and in the process the home PC market.

The lack of games for Mac has nothing to do with compatibility. It's the developers choice not to port some games because Windows has the majority.

And if you're so much older and mature, why are you arguing with a "16 year old Microsoft fanboy"?

I'm not arguing, I'm just clearing your bullshit about OS X. You are about as mature as an 8 year old it sounds like considering you're the one calling Mac users "faggots" after I specifically said not to let this become a OS flame war.

I'm not a "Apple fanboy". I just use what works best for me. I like Linux too. The whole point of this thread was to encourage the OP to explore different OS's anyways.

So stfu about Mac. Were you touched inappropriately by one when you were little or something? You seem to have a deep seated hatred for Mac and no actual facts to back up what you say about it.

Just because you don't like Apple doesn't mean you need to make up stuff about it. Macs are not about being cool or chic, and definitely not "for faggots" like you put it. Apple just makes good products all around and the stats show it.

Apple trumps competition in customer satisfaction.

So deal with it.

I gave Windows it's dues, Linux too. It's all kind of a niche market. You're just a little 16 year old fanboy that can't recognize they're all good in some ways.

$1200 is not bad.

Let's see what you can get for that money from newegg.

20 inch display
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400(3.0GHz)
4GB of memory
1TB hdd
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285

Yeah but then you gotta put it together. Then what if you need support? Dealing with all the different warrantees from different manufacturers? Plus even if you do have tech support it's in INDIA!

You know who you get from Apple Support? An American. Plus resale value is way better with a mac than some hodgepodge of parts you bought from newegg to make a PC.

I used it every school day last year, and I've used it before that also.

So basically you've used it as a limited user, not as an administrator with privileges. I doubt your experience with OSX is a fair representation.

Kid, I've used Linux, Windows, and Mac, I've explored.

Explored with a blindfold on it sounds like. Plus most creativity software comes out on Mac. Final Cut, Garageband, ProTools, Photoshop, Lightroom.... Just about any software that helps people create stuff either only runs on Mac or runs better on a Mac.

Lets just stop this from becoming a flame war and be adults about this. OS choice is a personal thing based on the user's experience. And while no one OS is perfect, there are differen't OS for different people.

That's my 2 cents, if you wanna be a 5 year old and carry on your non-constructive flame war you can do it now because I'm not reading this thread.

Another option would be to use VMWare or Virtual PC and try out different Linux distributions that way so you can take your time and decide before wiping out Windows from your system.

I think it's safe to say he's less than happy with XP since he's checking out other Operating Systems. Afterall if an OS isn't operating then what good is it? I'm with you guys though, if you ARE happy with XP and this is just your friend trying to get you to switch then staying with XP is best.

But if you're NOT happy then get out & try Mac OSX (what I'd pick), Ubuntu, Gentoo, whatever you wanna try. Sticking with a shitty OS is like staying in a shitty relationship, staying is the worst thing you can do if you're unhappy.

Just be safe with Linux & read the documentation, Ubuntu and Gentoo have wonderful documentation that will educate you.

The fact that you just recommended to him a Mac, computers with THE most overpriced hardware, and THE worst fucking OS ever, over XP makes me chuckle.

That sounds like a loaded statement. Mac hardware is great, and priced reasonably nowdays. I will say that in the past they were a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

Plus since you gave no reasons why it's the worst why should anyone listen to you? For all we know you've never even tried Mac OS and are just starting an OS flame war.

The way I see it is there are different OS's for different people. Mac OS for people that like to get stuff done. Linux for people that like to tinker a lot with settings and customization and/or are on a budget.

And Windows for kids that base an OS' success by what games it has, people that need it for compatibility for something linux can't, or people that just don't ever explore other OS's so they're satisfied with it (kinda like you probably).

After seeing that I was feeling a bit deflated, and this seems like not such a big deal afterall. At least now I can send a letter to any sponsors that hang around with Glenn Beck openly questioning their decision.

You do need to know stuff. In order for flash to work good you need a videocard that Linux supports direct rendering for. Like if it's ATI or NVIDIA you need to install a 3rd party driver to get the most out of it. Other than that, internet browsing, listening to MP3's works pretty well out of the box with Ubuntu.

My recommendation though is to just get a Mac. The Mac OS is UNIX based and has the 3rd party support that the linux distributions lack. And you don't get the headaches of library issues in Linux.

Do not listen to these guys that say XP or Vista are fine. If YOU'RE unhappy, switch to something else, fuck what they think.

Response to: ubuntu Posted August 14th, 2009 in General

I used a few different linux distributions from around 2000 to around 2006 because I got fed up with Windows but could not afford a Mac.

I can say that as a desktop (which was mostly what I would use the system as) I liked Ubuntu the best but it's got some headaches. I never had a good experience updating.

Whenever Ubuntu updated some libraries would always get confused and the system would be looking for outdated stuff or vice-versa. Linux is great if you have the time & patience to set it up how you want it.

But after getting a Mac I can say I'm happy to never revisit Linux as a desktop system. And I hope Windows burns in hell.

Actually eating it is one of the best ways.

Just use 1 stick of butter per 1/2 oz. of cannabis, and boil with 8 oz. of water per stick of butter.

Boil for 1 hour, then strain the solids out and put it in the freezer for a couple hours until it solidifies.

After that you have nice big chunks of green butter you can use in any recipe or just spread on toast.
