"Why does Mod rhyme with God?"
Because it feels like it.

"Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"
Actually StrawberryClock came first... waaaaaaaay before the other Flash authors evolved... rather rudimentary lifeform though, but lays the foundation for all Newgroundsian evolution and theology.

d00d i cant spel or uz basic gramar so i r 1337

I crack me up. Anyways, I'd rather play Allegiance than Runescape... Allegiance looks good, plays good, has a (relatively) good community, better pricing plan for actually playing than Runescape... In short, it's everything Runescape isn't, except for an MMORPG.

I'd rather play Pokemon even instead of Runescape... That's how much I hate it. It was nice for coffee breaks at work though, and at least in the RS1 days (I joined near their end, left about April 2004 if i recall correctly), the difference between free and member servers was... oddly enough... NOT disproportionate.

My point is that there are a lot of F2P games that are better than Runescape, and it's better to spend your 5.95 a month on something like WoW or something.

Topic: Parallex in Flash?

Posted: 08/14/06 09:46 PM

Forum: Flash

I was getting the idea to do an arcadey shooter in Flash, something nice and fast paced with plenty of action and eye-candy. The only real problem is that I'm at the moment, a flash-n00b, although time and practice will rectify that...

Anyways, beyond the really obvious stuff(which is in the tutorials or right in front of your face), there's only one real thing I'm still not sure how to do... Parallax scrolling. Hard to explain, but basically it creates a pseudo-3D effect by making different parts of the screen scroll at different rates... Does anyone know what graphical effects are involved*?

*note: if possible, a solution more elegant than manually programming each part of the screen to scroll at a different rate, if it wasnt done perfectly, it would tear:
---------- This part scrolls fast
--------- This part doesn't scroll quite as fast
-------- This part scrolls slowly
--------- See line 2
---------- See line 1

You could use a 3D imaging/rendering program, do some still pictures, and create a sort of "Virtual Claymation"... All I have to do is figure out how to do multiple jointed stuff in Blender... then pick up some skill in flash...

I saw the Starcrafter movie... reminds me of SC on Bnet.
[derail]
There are a good number of "RP" maps in which people basically have the equivalent of godly powers to spawn and create units, but use those abilities to create stories. Before patch 1.14 I used Inhale to save chatlog-enhanced replays and in essence, create little movies... for reference purposes. I wonder if anyone wants?

Adventure Quest > Runescape. Unlike Runescape, AQ is good for coffee breaks.

I'd have to reccomend Allegiance (www.freeallegiance.org) to all of you.
Reason number 1:Space combat!
Reason number 2: Full 3D Graphics!
Reason number 3:Great community

Note: These are in game screenshots, or at least using in-game art and such.
It requires downloading and an email account, but you obviously have such if you've got a Grounds gold account.

Note 2: There are a lot of useful resources for learning the game, such as Allegiance Academy , and the site's knowledge base, so please see if your questions are answered there(especially the basics of how to play) before attempting to ask experienced players.

Note 3: Your IQ must be at least 90 to play, or you will be ostracized by the community.

Topic: runescape vs guild wars

Posted: 07/29/06 10:03 PM

Forum: General

*laughs at entire upper posting*
This is why I usually don't play mainstream games... too many flamewars, and besides, my computer didn't support them until recently. I might check out GW or WoW, just maybe, though. Runescape, I used to play. Now I hate it, though...

I would side with the naysayers of Runescape. Remember,
www.mpogd.com has a comprehensive listing of these games, all the forementioned titles are included, so you can get a lot of
opinions.

I do want to recommend Allegiance though(search for it on the site, if I say too much this might be construed as a mindless advert)...

Forum: Where is / How to?

Before the post, here's the reference link to the flash I'll be mentioning... and a few notes... "Do you like cheese?"
It appears to be an attempt to resubmit something that was previously blammed...
"Random Short # 1, by Richard Collins (aRCee_Collins)". It's submitted as a collaboration, with aRCee_Collins being one of the authors.

Anyways, after seeing this movie(I highly dislike it, due to the low quality), I rated it zero... However, I was not planning to see the protection clip. This movie has now passed the first threshold that would keep it from being blammed. When I give a movie a zero, it should not get the entry protected... Please look into this.

Zango WILL harm your computer. Anything that tries to force itself onto your computer is definitely malware, and Zango did try to force-install some spyware on my system.

Topic: Two Questions

Posted: 06/21/06 12:11 PM

Forum: Where is / How to?

Note: Nobody is forcing you to read or reply to this thread. I am asking these questions out of curiosity(and perhaps ignorance)

1. First, the most important question... Today, I've been on Newgrounds, and the website is auto-spawning completely unrelated pop-ups that block whatever Flash you're viewing. I checked my comp for spyware, and besides the usual tracking cookies, I appear to be clean. I'm curious as to why this was implemented, because I've yet to meet anybody who's willing to click a pop-up ad for any reason whatsoever.

2. On an unrelated note, I've been submitting ratings on several under judgement featuers, but I have yet to recieve a blam or protection point. The last time I checked, all documentation stated that:
IF you voted below a rating of 2, and the feature was removed, you would get a blam point.
IF you voted a rating of 2 or above, and the feature stayed, you would get a protection point.
I've attempted that several times, got nothing... Is that statement out of date, or am I doing something wrong?

The whole 666... strangeness from Revelations... hmm.

As far as I know, Revelations was made to comfort those early Christians by taking the "Things will get better" message, coding it in some strange language, blah blah blah blah- My theory is that the 666 prophecy has already been fufilled and we don't realize it yet.

I'd have to say Irem. They made the R-Type series. Konami and Capcom are close runner-ups though.
