Hello, Review Request Club!

First I would like to once again thank you for the previous time (my first) I requested reviews for my audio submissions. The reviews are constructive and efforted.

Today I contributed to the Halloween competition on Newgrounds. I hope I still may be able to post it here:

While I am at it, I did submit another project of mine earlier. It is my own version of a videogame track (Pokémon G/S/C - New Bark Town), but still I feel that it is one of the best projects I have done so far now, so if remakes/remixes are allowed to be reviewed, I will also list that one here (if not, just ignore it, heheh):

Let's see, hmm. Apparently, all I had to do was to post the link, and it would show up all fancy. Hopefully this works, never did this before!

How does that look? =D

Anyhow! *Ahem*

At first I was not going to participate, but I have never really participated in such events. I decided to just jump into it, yush.

I, uhm, am not too good with composing and creating songs, but I just wanted to be a part of it anyway. My goal is not to win anything, but to have fun and be a part of a cool competition, and if lucky, get some more listens on my other projects, and as a step to becoming more active within making music.

Thank you guys for making such a fun competition!

I hope listeners will enjoy my project. =)

See you around! *Hides*

What really got to me was that, not seeing the review, I thought that he somehow had erased mine in order to take all of the credit. Now that mine actually still is there, it is not as bad. However, I will do as suggested and report the member.

Thanks a bunch, you. =3

Review Theft Posted October 10th, 2010 in Where is / How to?

Hey there, fellow NG users!

Yesterday, I made a review to the new chat feature of Newgrounds (which seems to be a submission). Just now though, when I go look at it, it appears that it is not actually posted by me, something which it of course was yesterday. To clarify, I do not have access to any other NG accounts, and I am the only one in my family who actually uses the Internet, so it cannot be anyone else's account I was logged on with at the time. It says it was posted one hour ago now.

What also is suspicious is how it actually says "Rate this review:Helpful!Useless.Flag as abusive.People find this review helpful!" at the bottom of the review. It seems like someone copy/pasted my review and accidentally marked the extra few buttons below, inputting that in text.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Also, how is it possible that a user can just delete someone's review like that, or replace someone's name with his/her own, taking the credit for it? I really had no idea something like this would be possible, yet it seems to be.

I do not know if you like any of my submissions, as they are probably not all-that good, but you are welcome to play any of them on your show if you would like.

Good luck with the show! =)

New audio moderators, yee-haw!

If you were promoted to a moderator position, then you truly must be doing a great job and effort around here. Congratulations becoming a moderator on such a huge site, you! ^_^

Good luck, and do enjoy - I suppose we will see you guys around!

Response to: What hardware do you guys use? Posted June 22nd, 2010 in Audio

The only hardware I use to digitally compose music is my stationary HP computer itself. It is however nearly ten years old and barely able to run Fruity Loops 3 anymore.

Intel Pentium 4
2,53 GHz, 512 MB RAM.

I do use my regular computer keyboard though whenever I compose in the textbased music making software Modplug Tracker, but that is just to enter notes into the note sheet, where I behave like someone never having used a piano before: "Aaahhh, where is that note I am looking for?!" XDD

Meh, are you guys talking about music making tools that are not computers, or does this count too? x_x

Hehe, yup. Being approved on Newgrounds can take some time. I believe it took me one month, more or less? It can take much longer time, too. Uncountable new artists show up in the Audio Portal every single day, and the moderators need to make sure that their work is genuinely theirs and stuff like that. At the same time, moderators here on a volunteer basis, and they cannot spend every hour of their life on Newgrounds. This is why it can take a lot of time. =)

However, they will see your submission, and if you know for sure that your work is your own and so, then only time will tell when you see your submission. If however, it does take up to a month, you can still message an Audio Moderator or go to the topic that the user above me linked. That is my impression of it all. ^_^

Have patience, and good luck! We shall hopefully see thou in the Audio Portal soon.

Response to: What inspires you to create music? Posted June 12th, 2010 in Audio

What started me making music was me hearing this absolutely awesome song I totally fell in love with. An old online friend of mine told me he made a song, and he wanted me to hear it. I kept listening to the song. The very same evening, I thought, I want to start making songs too. I will never become as good, but I want to make songs for others to enjoy, and that they say that they liked. Music can set moods and feelings, and I wanted to be a part of something like that.

Shortly, someone else revealed to me that this song was not his own, it was an example song under another name that came with Fruity Loops 3. That disappointed me, a lot. I would probably not have been as motivated, if motivated at all, if he had not said he had made it. *Sighs* Oh, I am so gullible ...

To perhaps get more to the core point of the topic. What inspires me to further create music from time to time? It is all similar, really. Whenever I hear a digitally made song which I become more and more addicted to, I just keep listening to it, noticing more and more of its "secrets". Instruments and hidden melodies that I had not yet noticed much. For instance, currently I am really hooked onto Zombies Ate My Tracker by Mazedude and Joe McDermott. It made me really want to start another project, one being better than any of my previous ones, but I simply have to learn more and grab more resources, like new instruments, along with learning how to tweak, add effects, and "VST" is something I have heard members in here are talking about, and I do not even know what on earth it is (so far, I just plainly compose without anything else much).

So currently, I feel there is a lack of skill and knowledge that stops me, and I feel that users do not want my music if I cannot touch them up by a lot, but to summarize my reply to the topic (TLDR): Listening to digitally made music which I become addicted to and start enjoying a lot, pretty much. =)

At 6/8/10 09:01 PM, Mystery-Moon-Pie-Aud wrote:

:Or I have to use some program in Windows to install the driver or something?

There we go. The problem is most likely the lack of driver, I would say. I am merely a second semester network administration student, but if you are formatting a system drive and are "purely" reinstalling an operating system, the drivers need to be resupplied, unless the driver is one of those that actually is included in this so-called "Windows Catalog". I do believe the case is the same for integrated devices.

Look up your PC model on the Internet. The manufacturer most likely has a system like so on their "drivers" part of their website. If they have a so-called Chipset software for your model, you should install this first, or else your devices may not work properly, if at all, and may even be the root of your problem.

If you see a sound driver, choose and install it. Hopefully it will be a setup program, or else you will have to install the drivers manually. If you do, you can do this either directly from the Device Manager or by going to the Add Hardware part of your Control Panel. In such an event, do feel free to message me, and I will (likely through pathetic attempts) do my best to assist you!

If you have to pay for drivers, you have found a dead end (drivers should be free, preferably downloaded separately).

This is what I believe may be a solution to your problem. Whatever happens, good luck!! =)

Response to: Best Music Program Posted June 8th, 2010 in Audio

Modplug Tracker is a decent module tracker, digital music making in other words. It is 100 % free, but the downside is that it may be somewhat difficult to get used to. It is all text-based, and you have to find or make all your instruments (unless you wish to use or tweak MIDI ones), but if you do spend a little while fooling around and clicking around on the note field, you will become used to it fairly fast, or at least I did. Some of my musical projects are made with Modplug Tracker.

Most of my projects are made with Fruity Loops 3, and it seems to be the most popular choice. I agree with others, I would not say you can call any of the digital music making programs for "the best", rather you should try various ones and stick with the one you feel comfortable with. =3

I just felt like mentioning Modplug Tracker as I did not see it mentioned in here beforehand, and although all-text, you are able to make really high-quality-sounding songs with it. I can only mention these two, as they are the only ones that I have touched, but I am very comfortable with both of them.

Screenshot of Fruity Loops: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Ra didsh/Tutorial/FL_P-PR.png

Screenshot of Modplug Tracker: http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Ra didsh/Tutorial/?action=view&current=modp lug_tut2.gif

If you are new to music, and if you are asking because you do not know which program to start off with, just try trial versions of the various choices you have, stick with the most comfortable one for you. Good luck! =D

Response to: have you ever woken up Posted May 31st, 2010 in General

Actually, I often wake up with my eyes closed. How so? It is not unusual that a dream I have lasts as good as until I wake up. The dream becomes less and less real, and I know something is about to happen, and eventually I just partially realize that I am waking up, and it is as if my dream just extremely slowly is fading away.

Then I just open my eyes after five to ten seconds of knowing I just woke up from a dream. Though it is not always this way. ;>

Response to: Questions for WOW players Posted May 31st, 2010 in Video Games

Am I addicted to WoW? I never play it much these days, if at all. Why? Because there are too many players at "end-game" that seem to focus too much about doing things as fast as possible (instead of mere fun), only players with the most recent gear may do activities with them, and I have also encountered a lot of rude players on there. Other than that, there is not really much that interests me at the moment about World of Warcraft, but I suppose I will give it another shot when the new expansion pack comes out.

Was I ever addicted to WoW? Oh, yes. I did not see the point of it at first, but once I was dragged along somewhere else in its world, I realized there actually were two teams in the game, and I had such a happy and funny time sneaking into enemy territories, although too much of being le "pwned".

The world in WoW is extremely huge, it is part of what makes it so awesome. You can go forever without having to wait for a loading screen (some few exceptions). You have to spend a good while playing to make progress on your character, but it feels really good to have an inventory. You log in, and your items in your bag are the same, just like your achieved level. This can be a nice feeling in comparement to many games where you start off from scratch every time (like Counter-Strike), or where it does not matter "which one's character" you are playing with.

I should probably stop right here before I am rambling even more. But yes. WoW can be really addicting, at least for some players, and I have indeed heard stories of many lives being ruined because of the addiction. WoW can feel like a second reality that you can be in 24/7, but one has to learn to limit oneself and also prioritize other things. ;3

Aww ... I hope you get better soon.

Being sick

I tend to become sick every Summer, though it depends where I am. I have allergies, and sometimes they make it difficult to sleep at night. Of course, heat does not help it one it. At some point when I was a young child, one Summer morning I woke up and could not breathe for a minute or so. Probably fainted, but woke up again later.

School/work

Hey, what do you guys do? For once in my life, I feel I am actually enjoying school. I am attending network administration class, mostly focused on Microsoft Windows-based networks and services. Instead of having to send in my computer for repair, additionally costing a lot, I can now do a lot of fixing myself, and 'tis fun! If anyone has a problem with their computer, particularly regarding home network or Internet trouble, feel free to PM me - Perhaps I can help you out a little bit!. =D

Lightning

Do you like thunderstorms and lightning? When I was younger, I enjoyed watching the fascinating, yet really creepy and shocky lines moving through the skies, sometimes connecting with the ground. However, at bed time, I was terrified. This was perhaps due to all the dark and silence other than the rain and thunder itself, feeling as if I would be in a horror movie or something.

Also, some years ago, the thunder struck down around 10-20 meters next to me. I was jumping over water (it was pouring down excessively), and as the lightning struck down while I was in mid-air. When I landed, I was so close to just falling because of the shock, felt like I was in a dream. Car alarms went off, too. It took me a second or two for my ears to work again. XP

Response to: Review Request Club Posted May 30th, 2010 in Clubs & Crews

Hellouu~

I am Radidsh, but you may also call me Diz. I am both new and not new with digital audio composing. Not new because I have been making audio projects for about ten years, and new because, well ... Apparently there is much more to music making than throwing in a bunch of instruments and giving each a piano roll. In the near future, I would love to learn more about tweaking, adding effects and making things actually sound awesome and smooth, instead of mere piano instruments and the like.

I have received a couple of reviews for some of my songs, and some listeners say that they like my work, but I also have a lot of listeners that give very low votes to my projects.

I have seen a couple of reviewers using the "Review Request Club" tag at the bottom of their reviews, and now I get to see where it comes from. This system seems awesome, and I am so happy that there is something like this present at Newgrounds! If I read the rules correctly, I may apply three of my projects for pending reviewing. If so, I shall choose three projects of mine:

Wild Yellowness

Analyse Nostalgia

Sweet Wish

My choice of projects to be reviewed may be faulty, and perhaps I should have chosen others, but for now I will put these anyhow. I think I lack general skill regarding tweaking instruments and finding or creating my own instruments.

I wish to say thank you so much in advance. You are all awesome for offering to give constructive critism for all of us. Perhaps I can join you someday when I know more about music, but for now I am quite the newbie. Keep up the good work, and I suppose that I will see you later, since you wanted to hear the authors' responses to your reviews. =3

Your Favorite PC Game

Well, let me see ... Way back, Half-Life was my very most favourite game, ever. I loved how the system was built, it had intelligent AI and the game was also built to work on not-too-good computers. I still love the concept of having different teams. Gordon Freeman, starring in Half-Life, has to fight both aliens and the military. However, it was really awesome how the military also attacked the aliens and vice versa.

Right now I believe my favourite PC game is Left 4 Dead 2. Although it can be considered really short in comparement to certain modern games, the system randomizes the challenges every single time. Weapons lie elsewhere, different foes at different places, and it is really good for online play if you know how to cooperate with your team players, though that is the general key to this game - Cooperate, or fail hard. ;)

Response to: The Audio Forum Lounge Posted May 30th, 2010 in Audio

I know I most likely am a bad audio artist, not a good one at least, but I have sometimes experienced a *really* huge gap in voting. To put an example, on my Wild Yellowness submission, after two votes it was on 5 (I never vote for my own audio submissions) and after three it was on 1, meaning one has had to vote 0. How is it possible that something some listeners feel is worthy a 5 "Respect" also receives votes of 0 "I hope you die in a fire"? It has had me wondering for a bit, and I feel it is hard for me to figure, haha.

Have you guys ever thought about or experienced this? =>

Response to: Audio Advertisements! Posted February 28th, 2010 in Audio

A thread to advertise submission? Goodie! Why not, hehe, I might as well. =3

Although I also make my very own songs and compositions, most of my audio submissions on Newgrounds are remakes of both old and new videogame-ish tracks. So far these only include Pokémon, but if anyone would like me to try on one of their favourite game tunes, give me a PM and I'll see if I can do an attempt at my best, silly efforts. =0

I am not all that good with Fruity Loops as of yet, I have yet to learn some advanced features, so far I only use the already-existing sound pack kit and all, but still, I really hope some of you like a little what I am doing so far. =)

Here are my audio submissions:

http://radidsh.newgrounds.com/audio/

Here are my so far non-remake projects (purely mine, and assumed more interesting than remakes):

Wild Yellowness

Sweet Wish

Joyful Aura (Loop)

Bright Starlight

In case anyone does listen to them, I hope that you likey. I really do hope that I become better at music making soon, like learning effects, tweaking and so. See you around! ^^

Why would you give anyone Hyper Beam? It may have a lot of power but the cool down turn isn't worth it.

Also, train in areas where there are Pokemon that the one you are training is strong against. If you're training something with electric moves, fly to somewhere with strong water types. Once you pass the first two members of the Elite 4 things get much easier.

I am not a Pokémon expert, though in D/P/P you apparently get to skip Hyper Beam's cooldown if you switch out your Pokémon once the opponent's Pokémon faints (if you are using the default Shift type battle mode). ;)

Yeah, the Elite Four, definitely. Just make sure that you spend all your money on stuff like revives and potions. That way, you won't be losing any money when losing a battle, get it? Also the Vs. Seeker that someone else suggested is also a good method as some of your earlier opponents actually level up their Pokémon, earning you more exp. points. Neato. =9

I just now gave Newgrounds another chance, only to find out I was banned from submitting to the Audio Portal. I would seriously like to know why this took place, as I have at no point broken the Submission Agreement, nor have I broken any other contracts I know of.

I'm sure it's just a human error, but it's seriously pissing me off, once again.

You will likely have to supply details as in the name of the song you were uploading (you were sent an e-mail stating this upon submitting), perhaps the date could help as well.

I also hear that if you were banned, and if you truthfully know that your work is your own work and that it really does belong on Newgrounds and that it was a human error, that you should create another account and reupload your music.

Hehe, I just felt like taking the trip back in here again. ^^ I just felt like asking a question for the conversation's sake. I submitted another project to check if I was banned (for now have been waiting for 13-14 days), seems like it is going smoothly so far though. One thing I was wondering about, when banned, will you be prevented from accessing the Audio Submission form, or do you have to try actually uploading a song and submit it in order to know?

Another trivial question that is related to my own situation is the following. I have so far submitted three projects of mine. Do all of these have to be approved, or will the rest of the submitted projects show up once the first one has passed the moderators' approval process?

No haste, no haste. Me just wondering. ^^

I am really glad that I uploaded my Pokémon remake before anything else, as I am now slightly unsure whether you see it as crossing the line or not (although most of the Pokémon remake/"remix" submissions I have seen here so far seem not all that much more "original" than mine), as I have many projects whereas I made the melody composition and absolutely everything 100 %, though me not wanting to cause trouble for the audio moderators by being approved (own composition) and then posting something which they slightly feel should be altered to have it stay (remake) to sound less like the original tune.

Alrighty then. Keep up the good work! ^^

It depends. If you made this song and it sounds VERY identical to the original, then there would be a problem. A remix is just that a REmix. You MUST have changed the song so it doesn't sound so much like original so that it sounds like a remake. There's a thin line between the two, just be careful not to cross it.

Hmm, I see. It does sound a little identical, but I did not change all that much to the already-existing melody in order to keep the original and nostalgic feel, though I did add various other instruments that I "made up myself". ^^

I suppose we will have to wait and see then. I will probably check back (a week or two?) and check if it was approved or if I crossed the line. Thanks for the help so far, good luck to you moderators and to the rest of the artists awaiting approval! ;)

Please guys, the amount of time it takes to be approve varrys. It all depends on how many people have submitted song (and there are a LOT).

Alrighty. =) I was directed towards this thread to ask if I somehow was banned, but I uploaded another project of mine (100% mine) to verify, and it was uploaded, so I suppose I am still in line, so I shall not be bothered about the approval time as of yet.

However, I still (as sad as it seems) feel confusion regarding remakes. Perhaps it is me being Norwegian and not really speaking English that much/well. =P To instead of asking the general question again and rather referring to my exact situation: My videogame remakes I did make all from scratch with Fruity Loops, no midi rips or anything (I do not even know where to find these midis). I listened to the original tunes by ear really carefully and built everything from the ground note-by-note. I assumed this was allowed since there seem to be many other remakes of old videogame tunes in the Audio Portal. ^^ It still sounds very identical though, although I still gave my own touch to it. I also added drums and various misc. instruments as well, as a gameboy tune is, well, more or less only one instrument. It is still allowed though? I made it from scratch by just listening to the original gameboy tune carefully. ^^

Also, great job to the Audio Moderators, really. I never would have imagined there are that many songs to approve, and that you often also have to verify them and talk to other moderators when uncertain. Big job, so keep it up. =3
