True. Although I can enjoy one on the DS, or so, but I'd never buy something like Final Fantasy for a console.

Either way, RPG elements like uprgadeable weapons and leveling up are cool in any game.

RPG does not mean turn based. Basically if there's EXP points to be earned, or stuff to be upgraded, you can say it has RPG elements.

Also, the AI in turnbased games does not think "let's wait untill they attack" it thinks: "Hmm, do I use this turn to use a power boost potion, or do attack?" and various things like that.

Yeah, they're awesome. Knowing that the developers are trying to make the hardest game possible, without it being impossible, and you can still dodge stuff and beat levels.

I quite like Raiden Fighters 2. I wouldn't call if Curtain Fire or Bullet Hell, because it's not. It is a vertical 2D shooter, but there aren't 60 bullets coming down at you at any given time. What it does have are tons of Jets to choose from (including a dragon) each with their own weapons and bombs. The game also send you going from left to right and up and down. You'll find yourself being surrounded by turrets at points, dodging bullets coming from all directions.

Here's a screenshot of a kickass laser that sticks to your enemies untill they explode.

Well it shoots beams at you so I would say a giant rock of death. You know those weird rock things that are inside of the bosses.

A giant rock of death is better than an actual giant rock of....normalness. But still, a giant rock of death is a shit idea for a boss. After all that, you get to fight a rock. You'd think a huge robot or a big ship or something. Damn you, developers!

Yeah as you said, I tend to panic in hail of different colour bullets tapping the "change polarity" button.

When that happened in that Danny Phantom game for the DS, it didn't really matter. I just kept going even tough bulletes were hitting me. I bet that's not the case with Ikaruga.

Also, anyone know of this game? It's flash I think (Pedobear's in it), but I don't think it's on NG. It's one of those games you have to memorize or else you simply can't beat it.

I remember panicing and tapping the button to switch your shield colour desperately. The thing is, my game was Danny Phantom: Concrete Jungle and it was amazingly easy. (and it sucked)

Post descriptions, screenshots and/or videos of the game(s) you find hard.

Here's one:
Gigawing is hard as a month old shit. As an arcade game, it's designed to kill you and take away your quarters. The game does a mighty fine job at it too. I don't know, maybe I'm just a noob at 2d shooters, or maybe this game is just freaking hard.

Here's why it's hard:

- They hit you=you die. You hit them multiple times=they die. They outnumber & outpower you.

- The reflector(reflect bullets for a very short while) take like a second and a half to charge up. When you're in the heat of battle and bullets coming from EVERY direction, a second and a half is enough t kill you three times. On top of that, it takes like 3-4 seconds to reload.

- Bombs that wipe the screen are far too few in number. (although they are awesome)

Here's a screenshot of a rather early level I was playing just now.

You know when you die, your character blinks after being respawned, making you invincible for a second or two? I'm in that BTW. But I died like a millisecond after taking the screenshot.
