But why does a website need money to maintain itself in the first place?
Let's see... bandwidth costs money.
Alexa Rank
Newgrounds is ranked 418 in the world for traffic with 6.9 MILLION unique visitors a DAY.
Bandwidth, the stuff that delivers the content...rated at 0.25 cents per GIG and each user say watches 1x4meg movie a day (6.9 million x 4Mb = 27,600,000Mb or 26,953 Gb per day TIMES 0.25 cents for GIG = $6738.25 dollars per day x 30 days = 202,147.00) And because it's in that kind of a bracket, they probably have to own thier own OC3 lines in which case its a mininum $30,000 a month plus additonal charges, they could be paying as high as $60,000 a month to cover this bandwidth you all take for granted so much. Could be more or less, but in that ball park.
This isn't Grandma's little pet poodle hotline website with 125 visitors a month... its a massive hub on the internet.
Nuff said.
