Preloaders
* Preloaders should always be included, even in games and animations < 40kb:
4 - They're always helpful, especially if the veiwer has a slow connection.
* Preloaders should autoplay when done loading:
? - Auto-playing makes sure the view knows it has loaded, but at the same time they could be busy.
* Music is appropriate in the preloader:
1 - No, that can get annoying.
Introductions
* My sponsor logo should come before my own logo:
2 - They may be giving you money but you put a lot of hard work into it, you deserve to have it first.
* Putting a sponsor logo into my movie will make my movie feel more professional:
1 - It won't make it look more prefessional, but at best it will show it's good enough for the sponsor.
* "Skip" buttons that bypass my logo are appropriate:
3 - What would be the point of making them then?
Quality Control
* Auto-toggle quality is the best way to go:
4 - It saves them right-clicking.
* Quality-toggling tools are important in a movie:
2 - There are for most movies, but for my sprite animations anything higher than 'low' is silly.
*The ability to turn off the sound is important:
4 - It helps when you want to listen to your own stuff.
* A menu should always be readily available for a user:
5 - Yes.
Game Production
* Games should have multiple difficulties:
4 - If the game is too hard then people will just give up after a while.
* Games are not complete without a high score list:
2 - Some games, if not most, don't need them.
* Power ups are always essential to gameplay:
2 - Again it depends on the type of game.
* A pause button is necessary:
5 - Yes.
* Gameplay is more important than graphics:
3 - Well the game won't be as fun without passable graphics, regardless of the script.
* Game instructions are important:
5 - What's the point of making a game when people can't play?
Animation
* Scene Select is important to the animation:
3 - You made the entire movie, wouldn't you want them to see all of it?
* Subtitles are important when there is dialogue:
3 - Whenever possible, subtitles can get tedious though.
* I don't do dialogue, because it's too much work:
2 - It's hard but worth it.
* I go through "clean-up" on my animation (removing stray marks, bad frames, etc):
1 - If it's not noticable then I don't see the point.
* I use the V-Cam in my work:
5 - Very useful.
Sound and Music
* I tend to use royalty-free/public domain music that I got for free:
2 - I usually have to picture my movies with music I hear from videogames and/or radio.
* I use free sound effects from the internet:
5 - Free are the best kind.
* I make my own sound effects (foley):
1 - Nope.
* I make my own music:
2 - I would if I could compose
* Compressing sound is important:
3 - Yeah, but at the same time you want it to sound great.
Security
* I know how to protect my animation/game from being imported:
5 - I know how, but rarely do.
* I take extra precautions to prevent theft of my swf file (ie, domain control, mochibot, etc):
1 - If people want to show my game/movie I get more hits, I see nothing wrong.
* I have set copyright or some sort of rights rules on my swf files:
1 - No need for me really.
Testing and Playback
* I let people in on how my projects are doing:
5 - I can't get by without showing at least someone else.
* I only let fellow developers view projects before launch:
1 - Friends have better ideas, developers can give ideas but limit them to things you're capable of.
* I test the quality on different computers and browsers:
1 - I just can't be bothered.
* I ensure the Flash runs well on a Mac computer:
1 - I always assume that it does, and if I don't I can told off and fix it.
Endings
* I always include a logo or some link in my game to my own website on the last page:
4 - Yeah it helps.
* My endings usually have some scrolling / cycling end-credits:
5 - Always.
Flash Production
* I play music while I work on Flash projects:
5 - I usually find some cool mash-ups to listen too.
* I watch TV when I work on Flash projects:
1 - Too distracting for me.
* I do best in shorter increments (an hour or so) than working in blocks (2-4 hours or more):
4 - If I do anymore than an hour I risk my computer running slow :/
* I use Flash 8 (if not, specify your version):
5 - Yes, yes I do.
* The Flash 9 upgrade is important to me:
2 - I don't see anything I really need in it.
* I sketch or plan out games or animations before I make them:
1 - Most of it I make up along the way.
* If I need help, I can find it on my own in the documentation:
3 - Sometimes, but other times I cry to the BBS.
Flash Tools
I use the...
*Brush tool:
2
*Pen Tool:
1
*Pencil Tool:
1
*Spell Check Tool:
2
*Hotkeys:
3
*Components:
2
*Filters:
