Renewables=Nonrenewables

Plastic waste, plant matter, and all sorts of carbon can be made into gasoline to be used in existing engines. Carbon dioxide can be scrubbed from the atmosphere by large scale farming. Technology allows us to tie conventional waste systems directly into natural cycles.

Response to: Collapse of Industrial Civilization Posted March 20th, 2014 in General

Not going to happen. The model is based on a series of logical leaps that don't necessarily reflect reality. Four species? I can already think of a fifth. Technology allows for a fifth species which separates the labor production from the Commoners by automation. Technology also allows for renewables to be made into regeneratables which makes resource consumption at least a partial coefficient not a divisor.

"Future generations of this model will disaggregate these forms."

Yeah, I would hope so. And while you're at it, hire some experts in Ecology, Economics, civilization a specific History, and a few dozen other fields to cover the gaping holes in your very narrow field of view, Mr. Motesharrei. And a PR professional to keep you from talking to loud mouthed mouth breather Nafeez Ahmed. Of all people.

'Big Band Theory' thread on NGBBS half a week after one of the biggest science announcements of the past 50 years:

0. OP links to Popular fucking Science, claims the Big Bang has been 'proved', posts nothing relevant to the actual news
1. Post about Big Bang TV show
2. Post making fum of the OP's typo
3. Picture of four fedoras
4. Post of a meme by the OP
5. OP gets owned
6. OP posts a cartoon reaction gif

Look at yourselves.

You can't just say stuff like that without credible proof, though you have a history of doing just that.

You won't find much to the contrary if you just scratch the surface with Google. The CDC does a good job with tracking the number of diseases that cannot be eliminated by its own sterilization requirements. And reviewing the possible numbers of diseases which have previously been under control and evolved a resistence to the current procedures. And apologizing for previous errors which complicated the healthcare of otherwise healthy people by contact with equipment that wasn't required to be sterilized.

And haven't you been hitting the wardrum about the Trans Pacific Partnership? Don't you know that the TPP is part of an attempt to secure international intellectual property rights for drug research companies which are being infringed upon by low cost generics manufacturers?

I can already make a full page of a list of things that are wrong. The first being that it's in fucking color.

I think the lack of color, perception of differences, or disobedience was an effect of the drugs everyone took. Maybe they movie should gave been made in greyscale. I think it's excusable because the way I pictured it the characters would have been in a sort of mental fog. Of course, it's possible that the studio made the decision for an entirely different reason and they're just trying to ride the coattails of the Hunger Games like Divergent.

Response to: Half believe in health conspiracies Posted March 19th, 2014 in General

I believe that Hospitals are diseased cesspools which increase your exposure to microorganisms and viruses capable of putting your health at risk.

I also believe that medical malpractice is a leading cause of death in the first world.

I also believe that pharmaceutical companies are profit-driven entities which create innovative substances and then abuse intellectual property rights laws, lobby to get laws changed to weight in their favor, and often refuse to produce unprofitable medicines that could otherwise save lives.

But these aren't conspiracy theories as much as they are well-documented fact.

Women often date uglier men because they need to extra security of knowing their mate won't end up cheating on them or leaving them for another woman. Added benefits are being valued higher than she values herself, getting a smart guy who is capable of making a lot of money, and finding that big old slightly worn dick.

Business as usual.

Also the chick in the OP is caking on the make up and beauty products. You could make guys look better if they were willing the paint on that façade.

How could you not? Oh, right, you're a white. Harold and Kumar go to White Castle explores the reality of two Asian Americans living in a bubble of white privilege and coping with the realities of racism in white dominated society. Did you think White Castle was literally a fast food munchies tour?

The Expendables is an absurd parody of the action genre that uses the exact same actors who launched the genre.

The Girl Next Door is a coming of age fantasy about privileged whites getting everything they wanted and still managing to fuck it up.

The Fifth Elenent is just a great movie all around. Maybe you should explain why your childhood abuse caused you to hate good things.

I knew by making that list that some people would disagree with me.

No, you knew that by peppering your list with summer blockbusters like The Fifth Element you would get a few replies.

Now suck it up and try using less insults and more words that actually carry meaningful ideas.

It's fucking expensive. The United States has spent $4 trillion in 10 years for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. That's not even counting regular military expenditures or drone warfare in Africa, the elsewhere in the Middle East, and Pakistan.

Even with quantitative easing, that $4 trillion has an enormous impact on the federal budget. The money has to come from somewhere, and it certainly isn't going elsewhere. It should be spent in science research, financial aid programs to send young people to college, job programs, and space exploration.

Our sun is a small, young star. There have been half a dozen star generations already in the past 13.8 billion years.
200 billion stars in Milky Way, the likelihood that stars are planetary systems is unknown, but it is known to be high.
The Milky Way is a small galaxy, larger galaxies contain trillions, hundreds of trillions, and quadrillions of stars.
There are nearly a trillion galaxies in the observable universe.
The edge of the universe has not been found.
Quantum Mechanics leads some experts to support the theory of multiple universes, or a Multiverse.

The number of planets are is definitely several orders of magnitude above trillions. And planets aren't the only possible way life could exist.
