is it possible to do it in such way? (it was possible in as2),
if not how can it be done, since I need to access a list of Sprites, choose one and modify one of his Properites.

my second question, is how do I Modify a Sprite from his reference in an Array,
can it be done like so

Code:
root[cubeArray[Y][x]].gotoAndStop(root[c ubeArray[Y][x]].f-cTypes);
//Am I using the root - the right way? or should I use something else?

Please Help :X

I'm using a 3 dimensional array right now-but its entirely linear-One way to do what you want is if you know your dimensions wont change (or at least the inner-most dimensions), is to use just a regular Array, and use a lookup like:
With Array dimensions xDim(:uint = #-unchangeable w/o a hassel) & yDim(:uint=#),
xDim = dimension1, yDim = dimension 2 - then object at position x,y = y*xDim + x
All you really need is a 1:1 or hashing function, and it might even increase your access time. :)

OR you can just make an array of arrays:

a:Array = new Array()
a.push(new Array(put crap in me))
...
for i=0...
for j=0...
//lookup:
a[i][j].alpha = .5
end for
end for

Hope that helps (=

By far my favorite one was Sucho's- so I'm glad he got in. I'm also happy Savory's and HotDiggedyDemon's got in. Some people may be disappointed that theirs or their favorites didn't get in, but this is the very first calendar, and they have a year to advance on it, so in the future they may be able to include some kind of poll or more site-wide way of deciding who wins (after all the users will be the ones buying the calendars). So THANK YOU to EVERYONE who participated-we wouldn't have been able to get this off the ground without so many good entries. I'm excited and can't wait to buy some for my buddies!

Ditto, I was actually wondering abut that for myself. I've been working on this thing for a while and it could all be for nothing ='(

One possibility to remedy that -and to sport NG's awesome user participation- would be to take everyone's pictures that didn't make the top 12 and put them all together on the back in a collage or sumthin... Might be too complicated to coordinate with the deadline and all, but it celebrates something that makes NG awesome- user participation.

I think the NG staff/ReNaeNae should probably be the only ones involved in the calendar voting-not just because of time constraints, but I think everyone would probably vote for themselves for the most part anyway, and after the top 3, I don't know how many people will be too involved in thoughtful ranking of the remaining ones (laziness)...

Actually, what you could do is post the pic here on NG with as big a watermark as you want, then when they ask you for your piece if you win, send them the hi res version without the watermark-I think you can trust the NG staff to not ripp you off. (Just remind them that it is a temporary watermark)

I'd love to join in on the Calendar, and if I get a chance I defiantly will, but I got so much other crap on my plate. It'd've been better if we were notified more than 15 days ahead of time about the contest.

I like the updated layout for the submission pages, but I think it takes a bit away from the animation authors-the space with their info at the top left is even less (reminds me of a while ago, when the summaries used to get cut off, so summaries longer than a paragraph required a 'see more' button). I know you can just click on the name to find out more, but I am a bit disgruntled about that.
And its nice to give credit to the audio artists, but compared to the hours of work I put into my animations, the music is minuscule, and for me at least, I ended picking my stuff at the end just for the sake of putting music in my animations-so I hate how the audio artists names overshadow the animation artists' (usually more than 1 audio artist per single flash movie). Sadly that makes me want to use copyrighted music more... But at the same time, I like the look and I do like that it is compact.. mixed feelings I guess.

Topic: Scoring System Idea

Posted: 06/05/03 02:02 PM

Forum: General

I am tired of newbies rating good stuff low because of filesize, and lack of flaswh knowlage. I think that there should also be a complaining system that you can complain about people that rated you unfairly and if there were a certein amount of complains on a certin user an admin should check it out

please reply!

A complaining system would be enormous. Most people complain about one thing or another, especially the littlest things. I understand that there are plenty of nasty reviews out there, but every movie on NG has at least one. It isn't just the newbies either, some people just don't like some of the more popular flash movies. If a complaint system were to be used, thousands of members could be banned. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. There have been warnings to the users about offensive/racist reviews. Most of us would be glad to rid ourselves of such reviews and users. They will be dealt with as Wade and Tom have done in the past. But for the little stupid remark reviews, there are thousands. They aren't as offensive usually, but we could do without them. What I am trying to say is, there are so many of them. It would be a tedious job. Tom or Wade or anyone who had to deal with this new feature would be swamped with Emails asking to stop the user. Anyway, if someone can't review properly, they shouldn't be allowed to review. But don't let the little nasty reviews get you down. Everyone has one.

Homer: Then why is Marge here?
Marge: I came up with the idea.
Homer: Then why am I here?
Marge: Because the streets of Capital City is no place for three unescorted ladies.
Homer: Then why are the kids here?
Marge: Because we couldn't find Grampa to sit for them.
Homer: Then why is Grampa here?

At 5/20/03 12:53 AM, biteme2514 wrote: I know this is just another media attempt to spread fear about everything in our environment but the Matrix movies were just linked to a bunch of murders.

Damn it! Leave it to the media to blame more stuff on The Matrix. It's a bunch of crap. Whenever something goes wrong in society with murders, odd events, and such, people try to find the easiest scapegoat around. They did that with the first one, blaming Columbine on The Matrix. They just wanted some way to understand why they did what they did, and, low and behold, The Matrix was chosen as their outlet for blame. They just couldn't accept that the event happened for other distrubing reasons.

I remember back on the day Columbine happened, a Tuesday, FOX was going to show the 4th episode of Futurama that night. After media blew the story open to the world, FOX ended up showing the previous week's episode of Futurama. Reason being the new episode that supposed to be on was about a planet of killer robots who killed human on sight. FOX apparently only change the episode'sa airing in the Colorado area, as I heard from several others, that it was still shown in other states. FOX knew they would have been targeted as a scapegoat, and changed their broadcast.

What about the millions upon millions of others who saw The Matrix? They didn't go off and kill other people. The very few that do things either similar or related to The Matrix have little self control. It's a very few people getting too much attention. I saw it and I didn't kill anyone.

So, stop thinking of The Matrix as a troublesome cause. Everyone just wants to blame someone else other then themselves.

The Portal got quite a clean up awhile ago. Now we are refilling it with pathetic excusses for flash movies. The 'Free Blam Point' movies are very annoying, giving users more points to help save the 'worthy' entries. Many of the new movies probably should be labeled Free Blam Point so to stop saving worthless movies.

Hey! What if NG WAS on tv? say for example, if tom and wade could afford to buy broadcasting time or whatever, they could have a show called NGTV (NewGroundsTeleVision), where they would show premiere flash movies from the site. if anyone has seen the show Eyedrops on Tech TV, this would be the same kind of thing. Prior to each movie shown, the author would recieve credit. Then after the movie, the end credits would scroll also giving credit to any music or other people involved in the making of the flash movie. This way, really talented flash artists would get tons of recognition over the airwaves, and could possibly be spotted by someone willing to make their talent into a career. just think of the possibilities! it would also give NG the chance to catch even more fans.

so, what does everyone think?

It's a fine idea. It certainly would expland NG immensely. There is the problem of stealing movies and crediting it of as someone elses. Not to mention the putrid trash that constantly comes in; it would have be monitored before it was shown on TV.
It would give most authors the chance for fame.

There are dozens of rainbow and simley face tents set up all over in protest of the war. They won stop 'til the bomb stop droping. OK, multicolored tents ain't gonna do jack.
The protestors even had a walk outta class day to protest against the war. Geez, I've got better things to do than walk outta class and say war is bad. They must be a lot of rich busybodies; I'm paying good money to be there and they want us to walk out of class?!
Kinda nuts, don't ya think?
