Situation: In Poetry (yes I'm in poetry, get over it), I have a short assignment to write a short poem-like book based off of whatever emotion we choose. I chose glee (because it sounds cooler than happy). To write the poem I just write: Glee is __________ then provide a picture. She said we could just use clip art pics or something, but that would be kinda lame. With the pics provided, photoshop my face of "glee" onto pics that fit the theme of the poem. I'll choose the best pic for each phrase and use the best pic as my user page pic crediting the artist.

Here are my verses:

Glee is having a big tree to climb.

Glee is a big cookie to eat.

Glee is being at your favorite rock concert.

Glee is sledding down a big hill.

Glee is finding a lucky penny.

Feel free to come up with your own verses as well =)

W = 1/2MV^2 and W= F*D are the formulas you need to use. Plug and play for the first one, and then substitute your obtained value for work into the second one.

I'm not sure how to find the distance. The equation I usually would use:

D = V(initial)*Time + 1/2(Acceleration)*(Time)^2

The problem is that I don't know Acceleration or Time and I can't find acceleration without time =(

Do I just use the 1/2mv^2 to find the work? Then take that answer and divide it by 2?

Err, I'm not so sure.
Use the formula W=F*D*cos(theta).
I got an answer of 41.44 Joules.

Unfortunately, you applied your trigonometric function wrong. You incorrectly wrote cos = (force of gravity)/ X, but what you were really looking to do is change the direction of motion for the block.

The direction of gravity will never change, and if it does, it will always be smaller than 9.8m/s^2 (like when applied to the normal force).

I see, I had drawn my triangle wrong =( Gravity is the hypotenuse and Force Normal is the Adjacent side so:

cos(20) = x / (9.8 m/s ^2)

= cos(20)*(9.8 m/s^2) = X

= 9.21 m/s ^2

F = 9.21 m/s^2 * 3.0 kg

= 27.63 N

W = 27.63 N * 1.5 m = 41.44 Joules

I'm working on the shuffleboard problem now =)

Next question: A shuffleboard player pushes a .25 kg puck, giving it a speed of 2.5 m/s. How much work must be done to stop the puck? Also, if it stops in 2.0 m, how much force acted on the puck?

Okay here's what I got: 46.93 Joules

What I did was find the amount of force gravity exerted on the box on the incline using trigonometry, but my answer was greater than if it wasn't on an incline. Does this make sense?

Cos(20)= (9.8 m/s^2) / X

= (9.8 m/s ^2) / Cos (20) = X

= 10.43 m/s^2 = Acceleration

Force = Mass x Acceleration so F = 3 kg * 10.43 m/s ^2 = 31.3 N

Work = F * D so: 31.3 N * 1.5 m = 46.93 J

Does this look right?

Just the method which your asking.

Physics, is nothing but equations and concepts. I've never taken that, but I've done chemistry and basically your just gonna have to work multiple problems yourself to understand. Asking on a message board and waiting for people to reply with probably either minimum or no help, isn't effecient in time.

I'm not waiting for replies before I do anything I'm constantly trying to figure it out myself, and periodically checking to see if anyone has come up with a way of finding a solution yet. I see your point, and it's true that Physics is just a bunch of equations and concepts, but the hard part is knowing how to manipulate the equations to solve problems.

That's a good thought, but there is work being done any time a force is applied throughout a given distance. In this case, the force would be gravity (9.8 m/s^2) and the distance would be 1.5 meters. Now, the equation for work is F x D, but because the incline I believe we're supposed to use vectors or something.

I'm not asking anyone to my homework for me. The teacher gives us all of the solutions, we get graded on based off of how well we do on the tests. These problems are taken from my Physics text book, by understanding a problem of each type I should then understand the chapter no? I have asked my teacher for help, but Physics isn't something that one can just learn in a jiffy. However, once it is learned, it is really quite simple thus it should be easy for one who knows what I'm talking about to provide an example of how to do it (something my book fails to do).

So lately I have missed a number of days of school due to miscellaneous factors such as illness/contest/sports etc... and now I've fallen a bit behind in some of my classes. Most of which were easy enough to get caught up in but Physics has been harder for me. One problem at a time, I'll post different types of problems regarding the material we're working on right now. If anyone knows how to find the solution, please provide a diagram (if necessary) along with the steps taken to achieve the answer. I'm being serious. Thanks in advance for the help!

First question: A 3.0 kg block slides down a frictionless incline; which is inclined at 20 degrees to the horizontal. If the block slides a total distance of 1.5 meters, how much work was done?

-Connect your Mic.
-Put Instrument in sequencer
-Open Vocoder in channel 3 of the mixer
-Open mic in channel 1
-link instrument to channel 2
-pan voice (vox) to the left
-pan instrument (carrier) to the right
-route both vox and carrier to the vocoder
-turn down vox and carrier volume in the vocoder so only the end result comes out

That should do it (works for me)

Oh ya, and if you have it configured properly, nothing should come out of the vocoder unless you have both vox and carrier input at the same time =)

Ah thanks B0UNC3, I was just in the process of exporting the file to mp3 under Asio4All at 44100 kHz. I had just decided that my solution was to to work on my projects in "Creative ASIO" at 48000 then export them with the settings at A4A at 41000, but your idea sounds better. As long as it doesn't end up all distorted and stuff that's probably the way I'll go =)

Third, here's the only one of those options that I could get to work at 44100 kHz
I would like it if I could use my sound card's ASIO drivers but I don't know how to configure them so that they work at 44100 kHz. Any ideas?

Sorry - I meant to the right. Also, I think that Settings is actually Options.
man...i fail today.

I already tried that, but in order for it to work right I have to move it so far to the right that there's a 2 second lag that's almost worse than the click/choppy stuff. Also, it might help to know that this click/choppy stuff only gets really bad when a third instrument comes in at that point
