Mostly for the trolling potential.

Well I can trade with you if I get him, how about that? Especially if you end up getting me so then I can just write for myself.

You make it sound like he's the only one who does, yet when a number of us actually do spend time on our tracks, they're harder to notice.

And considering a particular video game OST I know that skyrocketed to fame, no, it's not how it's always done. You certainly need a good amount of luck to go with it.
You can go along believing in luck but your chances of becoming noticed are much better if you actually push quality. If something really good comes along it will almost certainly catch people's attention.

Now we're conferring over semantics. You're right, and you even said it yourself that increasing your chances still involves luck. So yea, nothing is black and white.

This should be interesting.
I really would like to write for SourJovis or Nimble, but that’s highly unlikely to happen. Either way, should be a good learning experience if I have to cross genres.

For the one that will write for me:
• Structurally, a track that’s in an ABA or Rounded Binary form
• Implements a pure, twelve-tone scale for at least two measures anywhere in the piece. The piece should be tonal, but I would like to hear how you decide to mix the twelve-tone technique in there.
• A structure as I mentioned before, but first starts out reticent, slowly builds, climaxes three-quarters into the piece, and then comes to some resolution in the first theme.
• Bonus: write the piece in the color blue as if someone with synesthesia would be listening and that is what they would interpret it as. However, if you cannot find a Synesthete, then just do the first three points.
The track can be your choice to write in any style, and you can use any arrangement of instruments. Just concentrate on the structure and the technique that I mentioned.

I couldn't disagree more. One of the best ways to never get better at writing music is to ignore everyone else.

To OP: Yeah your music is pretty good. Any more questions?

I didn't say to ignore criticism, but examine yourself to why you're doing music in the first place. Are you looking for praise from others for assurance? Because if you care to the extent and rely on whether people like your music or not, then you probably would not continue to persevere and work on your craft. There has to be something internal that drives you regardless.

I didn't mean to reply directly to you as to inquire about what the rules were. It just seems like, for my relatively short time spent here, that already there seems to be a lot of people that continue to do this. Maybe this is the norm. I just think it's peculiar that people that have been here for a while should know, but don't.

Read the Rules

I'm by no means being condescending, but at what point of time is it not okay to still be ignorant of the rules?

Anyway, what kind of question is, "Am I a good artist?" as if you should give yourself up for another to tell you how to become one. It should be irrelevant and is relative to the listener. Rethink your motives on why you are creating music in the first place.
If you think about how you already spent your time and hard work on a piece and uploaded it on NG, to which they have received several hundreds of views, then you shouldn't feel the need to covet, or doubt yourself. A true musician must draw the courage from within and not rely on voices from outside to give you strength.

So... Camry it was, I figure since Camry's go for like $23,000 new, the $14,000 price tag is a pretty good deal, especially considering there was only 1 previous owner.

My old Camry has 240k and is still going strong. The only problems I had was the muffler rusted out twice, but being in Chicago with the salted roads in the Winter makes that quite understandable.

Yes there is.
FUCK! I didn't think that had anything to do with music, so I put off my Halloween song!!! I'M SO SCREWED NOW!

I'm working on a halloween track, but should I bother labeling it as such to enter the competition if one will not be able to locate it? The tags would only work in the search if my music was uploaded to the portal, correct?

It's been a while since I used it, but i just remembered that Logic 9 doesn't recognize new plug-ins until you first run it in 32-bit mode. That should detect it, and then you manually launch the AU manager. Rescan it so you can hopefully get it to validate. You then should be able to switch back to 64-bit mode.
Then again, I'm not sure what the Mac specs are exactly for this... there isn't much info on that.

Also, Samulis if you ever get a hold of a vibraphone and a cello/bass bow, I would definitely pay for extended techniques samples such as bowing, and harmonics.

When learning anything, it is good to imitate first.
I'm currently working on a cover of a particular track from Daft Punk's work in Tron just so I can understand how they created the sound in the first place and figure out why it is effective. Trying to match the sound to the best of my ability will help me learn certain techniques that they do. It's a good exercise in composition, transcription, or even learning how to mix. And sometimes, while doing this, you might be able to hear a different direction and create anew, from the one you're imitating.
I think of Chopin as an example:
He did not want to publish his Fantasy-impromptu during his lifetime. People theorize the reason being is due to it resembling other composers' work: Moscheles's Impromptu in E-flat and a part of Beethoven's "Moonlight" sonata.
Or just think about how Chopin mastered the Nocturne which was first conceived by John Field.

As a musician, there are two approaches you can take in your own work. You can either perfect a genre, or move in a direction completely different which, if it is truly radical, should get a lot of criticism from the beginning, e.g. Debussy, Stravinsky, and Philip Glass to just name a few. That should be an encouraging thought. Ultimately it is you that you should be writing for.

You need others to show you the lines so you can find your voice. The diversity of music is so immense that the Plane of music we have created is no longer close to any basic polygon, but by adding more points and expanding it, you may then look back and realize that we really have just expanded from the same wheel that our ancestors created.

A ten year old admirer, Emilie M., gave a portfolio made by herself to Beethoven, and in response, Beethoven said, "Do not tear the laurel wreaths from the heads of Handel, Haydn, and Mozart; they belong to them,--not yet to me." (Teplitz, July 17, 1852, Beethoven: the Man and the Artist, as Revealed in his own Words)

Yep, did that. I'm still running OS 10.5.5 by the way.

If Logic 9 works on your computer, then I would think samulis library would still be able to work.
Not to be redundant, but have you tried putting the the .component file in your User library instead of just the first one you see in your Mac HD? You might have to un-hide that folder as well if you haven't done so in the past. I'll try to do more research on that tomorrow, as I am not sure about the version 10.5.5 if that's what's causing the issue.
It worked for me by moving it into the component folder under my User ->Library, and rebooting Logic (of course).
