You need to stop tracing.

Or at least give credit to the original artist. I know I'd be a little aggravated if I found a picture I drew traced and altered slightly without my consent and without any recognition of who drew the original. This can get you into alot of trouble I might add. If you need tips, step by step instruction, ideas, there's a ton of tallent on here, and free tutorials everywhere. Start working with the basics and work your way up, use other pictures or styles as reference, don't just trace them and expect anyone to be impressed. If you need some tips even I'd be happy to give you some ideas of what to start out with, but I thought I would give you just a heads up this time.

i totally forgot about this, i need to make some.

I'm not sure, but I'm hoping so too though, maybe anytime on the 22nd is fine.
They're usually pretty accommodating when it comes to the deadline so long as whatever you submit is decent and not just something slapped togeather :)

Response to: Ng Shirt Design - Art Thread Posted October 17th, 2007 in Art

a little Nene design,
4 colors plus useage of the pink t-shirt color,
works with or without the text but I thought the text worked well with the design :)

There are a number of programs you can use to create vector images, such as GIMP, Photoshop, CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator yadda yadda, but the most popular I'd imagine (and what I'm using) is just good old Adobe Flash.
A .fla file in flash is in vector format, where you can go in and edit the vectors in your image whenever you want as opposed to having to "paint" revisions.
Exactly what "vector format" is is graphics made up of certain pieces such as vector points, curves, lines, etc which are derived mathematically as opposed to set pixels. What that means is that the quality never degrades or pixelizes when you zoom in or out, it retains it's smooth crisp image unlike jpgs and such when you zoom in.
Hope the enlightens you haha, and saves you the wrath of the mods for not knowing all that on a flash website :3

Question,
How heavily is judging going to be influenced by things such as minor size and position changes?
Though in final printing I understand the importance of that, but it seems just a little overkill during this contest considering it's in vector format and minor adjustments such as size and position can be easily tweaked at anytime to suit whoever will be finalizing and sending the winning submissions off too the printer.

I ask this because I have reposted a few designs but only after adding something important or drastically altering the design in some way. My opinion is it's kind of a waste of the main thread space to do so and trivial during this process to make small size and position alterations. Not to mention position is semi relative to the person, something that looks about where I'd want it may not be the same for someone else, for someone else and then again for even someone else.
Just want to know because if it is something that will be critical in deciding winners then I will by all means repost again, I'd just really hate for anyone who put good time and effort into designing these to be overlooked because their taste in position is just a hair different from whoever is judging (there were never any rules or side notes about being particular about those aspects either).

I only ask because after reading through I was sorta surprised to see so many comments that are just "wow that looks really great!! but I'd only wear it if it was 10 pixels down more on that 4 inch picture of a t-shirt". Just seems trivial relative to the design itself, oh well good to know anyways.

Any other designs I make I will just post here first from now on though, that was my fault for not slappin it up on the works in progress board I suppose, my bad. :3

another submission, but more a resubmission
in light of comments regarding the size, I decided to look at my first design again and agree it was too huge, here's my newer compact take on it, it may be a little busy but I think it's a HUGE improvement over the original size and wearability, looks cleaner and more chic too haha
of course it can be scaled up and down to suit more perfectly
again, still 3 colors, plus the shirt color, and works really well with most all shirt colors spare white and black because of color choices :3

another shot at it,
"my dad could beat up your dad" I mean come on, that's kinda a classic school yard taunt
I thought this might be cute in an ominous impending doom sort of way
4 colors, plus shirt, looks best on black
darkend the back so the deign shows up a little better enlarged
oh and I don't want to hear that I bit on Jazza's idea, had this planned for a bit, I can't help if great minds think alike :P

Third design, an add on to my previous city scape
3 colors plus t-shirt, which work with most of the t colors so long as they're not extremely dark.
I zoomed in specifically on p-bot cuz the small size didn't do him any justice.
I also have two varients, one with the smoking cannon and one where the cannon is charging up, I prefered this one but just saying that there is another if desired :)

Second,
simple design, same submit theme
I am going to add p-bot, but this looked decent as is so I will submit the p-bot one when I add him in
2 colors plus shirt, works on most background colors

Alot of great ideas!
Here's my first, going for a slight double meaning with "submit"
3 colors plus t-shirt, works on most t colors, but I liked it on the darker red

Response to: Madness Day 2007 Winners! Posted September 24th, 2007 in NG News

First off I'd like to congratulate all the winners and participants of madness day!

Now let me point out the following statement:
"While a lot of people may make standard-issue Madness clones, we are excited to see people break the mold."
Unfortunately, I think this statement might have been false.
There were easily a few movies that stood out as showing some time and effort and at least a glimmer of originality. My honest opinion is that "you can not kill hank" seemed to me as deserving the top spot just for it's originality and deviation of style from the "cloned" circle tween. Granted Deus ex was well made and very stylish, but somewhere around the middle I found myself wondering when it was going to be over.

In the top 10 there are some who easily deserved it, granted maybe not in the order I felt but obviously I wasn't a judge. There was also at least one which was submitted after madness day had finished, and though I don't believe it shouldn't be allowed to compete, it just should be put under more strict judgement than those who push to at least get it in on time.
My last comment is that cut the madness, in my opinion, got far more than it deserved. Under 40 seconds long, 5 seconds of actual animation and a cliche joke that's been done "cut, more feeling, I'm going to my trailer" does not seem like it should enjoy it's place among top 10. This is not a stab at any artist, I actually think Won Chop is actually rather good, just not deserving in this particular instance.

Many decent entries just didn't get a nice spot on front page where people felt they should throw 4's and 5's at them. I feel that's a touch unfair, but eih, what are you going to do right thats life but for some reason I felt the need to at least voice an opinion. :D

Oh and if anyone wants to flame me, or tell me you'd like to see me do better? Here's my madness day link, all be it short, it has a song I made from scratch specifically for madness day and an actual style that may have "broken the mold" just a little more than most of the tweened circles I watched float around all day: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/40 1838

Happy madness day and congrats again!! :P

Response to: Sound & Animation Sync Posted May 2nd, 2006 in Game Development

Hey, I'm having a similar problem, However, what he means by setting it to stream is when you enter a sound in flash and then click on it in the frame there are options which come up at the bottom of the flash window

In this box you can set certain properties of the sound like volume, effects, loop and sync etc.
If you click on the arrow on the sync box you can change to different settings such as Event, Start, SStream etc. So what he means is just change that box to stream to make it match up, Good luck!
