Wotcha. Although I doubt most people will care:
Final Update of the NGVAC Roster
Ciao! Nice to see the place still standing!
Page 253, and I haven't checked the thread since 228, implying that I have 25 pages to go through and scour for roster applications. Oy. Maybe I'll come back to do this next week. Then again, hardly anyone uses the roster, so why should I really bother? Ah, heck. Just one final update for the heck of it, I guess. I think I'll institute a "email me your profile" rule to make it easier on myself.
And erm.... *waves* Hi. Still alive, stuck back in university again.
At 7/15/05 08:31 AM, Jakspeed wrote: Hey Ohmadon I would really like to join the Voice Acting Club, but I don't have any examples yet. It's hard to just come up with something to say, do you think you could give me something? Thanks if so
Have a look in the FAQ section of the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club Roster, which will hopefully give you some ideas on how to start making your own sampler. It's best that you come up with your own script, since you (probably) know your voice best and can guess at the kinds of voices you can do. After that, submit your profile with a link to your sampler included, and we'll get to listening and giving it a review.
If you're looking for voice actors, there's the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club. There's also a roster of all its members, if you want to try handpicking your VA people. Hope this helps! And remember: "Choose the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club! Because your voice probably sucks. (No Purchase Necessary. Lesbians not Included)"

Egads! Can it be! Hot on the heel of one megapost comes! Another megapost the page after! WHAT CRAZINESS WILL HAPPEN NEXT?
cajunthief: Well, I actually had an answer for your problems in the FAQ section, but here: a tutorial for Audacity. Have a listen to Shuko and that --KennethMichaels-- fella as well, since they seem to have the goods on how to use Audacity. But seriously, if you're not getting after this point, you might just want to do what Frogs suggested and just step AWAY from here and experiment for a while. Experiment for a LONG while. Try and get the basics down yourself before coming back. I mean, we're here to help and we'd be glad to offer advice when you ask for it, that's certainly true. We're not a completely heartless bunch. But we also don't believe in step-by-step handholding and we especially don't believe in spamming up the thread with constant cries for assistance and posting links which don't work (that you SHOULD have tested before posting in the first place. If they don't work for you, they're probably not gonna work for anyone else). Get in contact with us privately or try to do a little more legwork of your own before posting back here. And if you actually have been reading properly you'd notice someone said way back when that an AUP file is Audacity's work-in-progress file and not the actual voice sample itself. It's like the difference between a book, filled with pages and words, and a dustcover. What you're uploading now is the equivalent of a dustcover. Stop making that same mistake.
Shuko: Actually, to be completely honest, I've only seen about 5 episodes of Darkwing Duck all the way through at the very most. And that's because I am a very, very bad man who doesn't appreciate his Saturday Morning Disney cartoons as he should. :-( But that speech was quite the hillarity and stuck in my mind because it parodies its older cousin The Shadow so well. Godbless that Orson Welles! Anyway, in regards to the distortion that occurs when the volume gets too high: Well, if you were using Cool Edit Pro, I'd recommend you use some amplitude effects called "Dynamics Processing", "Normalize" or "Hard Limiting" in order to up that volume. With Audacity however, I really haven't a clue, sorry! Unless, of course, you're talking about the background hum that comes with every recording, in which case you can use the noise reduction feature on Audacity to help you out.
And yes! You can modify your profile when it's up by adding clips, changing your email address, modifying your screenname, switching your gender.... Errrr.... and so forth. Just be sure to flag me down with an "ATTN: Omahdon-daisenseisamadono" and I may (just may!) grace your post with an incurious glance.... Before scurrying off and updating the roster with the speed of a lazy sloth.
AudioTransmitter7000: Errrrr.... No, seriously. I'm not saying that I need a profile and clips submission from you to be mean, nasty and/or elitist.... Well, mostly. I'm saying that I need a profile and clips submission from you in order to add you to the roster PERIOD (either the Temp or the Mainstay). It's kinda hard to add you to the Temp roster when all I've got is a name. Gimme your email address (plus other contact info you want up) as well as what clips you want up as examples of your voice. And your poll is a really, really, REALLY bad idea. That's an explosion waiting to happen right there. I mean sure, if you said which MALE NGVAC voice actor was the best there would be no contest whatsoever. For as everyone knows, the best male NGVAC voice actor, and therefore the most superior as a human being, who is also very handsome, charming and totally ON with the ladies, is-- *gets drowned in a deluge of flame posts*
-Steven-: You might have better luck getting a Gir voice on the Voice Acting Alliance. Just be sure to read the rules first before posting a request. They kinda come down hard on people who post something along the lines of "need gir voice, k plz? ur mom". Still, if you're desperate for a Gir voice, here's me acting out a Zim and Gir scene from one of my favourite Invader Zim episodes (that I submitted to that IZ Fan-Animated Series board, but was ultimately rejected for being too stinky. Or so they said): "Germs"
Kerreck-Resputin: What Frogs said. Only possibly with a smidgen less negativity. Actually no, about the same amount and with more sarcasm. What I said in reply to cajunthief applies to you as well: We're here to help and we'd be glad to offer advice when you ask for it, that's certainly true. We're not a completely heartless bunch. But we also don't believe in step-by-step handholding and we especially don't believe in spamming up the thread with constant cries for assistance. Get in contact with us privately or try to do a little more legwork of your own before posting back here. Though it seems that everybody here and their grandmother are tossing suggestions at you on what to do, anyway. And your immediate assumption that voice acting is just imitating other well-established characters or real-life personas troubles me.
Frogs: Angry. Angry young man. A lot braver and honest about matters here than I could ever be. Yeah, sticking around the NGVAC isn't quite as fun as it used to be now that a lot of the regulars seem to have become reticient or just plain disappeared off the face of the earth. I have to admit, I'm doing it mainly out of a sense of obligation to update that roster every so often now. The roster, once my creation, has become my master. Frightening stuff there.
KagomeHigurashi: All righty, will modify next update.
Shock_Dingo: Hot tea with honey apparently works wonders on the throat, clearing up excess mucus and cleansing the palate. Avoiding milk is also a good practice, though you can make some really weird noises with a lot of muculage (which can help with certain voices, I guess). You'll just be clearing your throat a lot. And the person who did that Smith voice woulda be me-a. Yarr.
topleka: *shakes sailor moon outfit at you with weird eye sparkle* @_@
And now I rest five measures.

And now for the profiles with the samplers and the reviews and the things. First of all, the usual general warning disclaimer message thingie:
Every single bleedin' one of you right bloody bastards who submit a bleedin' profile without a bloody sampler! Imma gonna cut you right-bloody-up, you bleeder!
PROS: Nothing
CONS: Everything
VERDICT: If you want to join the club, check out the Want to Join? section of the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club Roster. It'll provide the details for how to join, as well as help on how to fill the requirements. PLEASE DO NOT POST A PROFILE WITHOUT A SAMPLER UPLOADED SOMEWHERE FOR DOWNLOAD. DO NOT SAY "I'LL MAKE ONE LATER" OR "I'll GET A MICROPHONE IN THREE MONTHS" OR "EMAIL ME FOR SAMPLES PLZ, K?". GET A SAMPLER, HAVE IT UPLOADED AND LINK IT BEFORE POSTING YOUR PROFILE. THIS IS NOT A NEGOTIABLE POINT. THIS MESSAGE IS IN ALL-CAPS AND BOLDED FOR A REASON. SORRY IF IT SEEMS REPETITIVE, I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THIS POINT WAS CONVEYED PROPERLY. Finally, this is a VOICE ACTING club. It is not a I CAN DO ALL THESE VOICES THAT I DON'T HAVE TO PROVE I CAN DO BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A MIC club. Don't try and join if you don't have a working microphone. That's just plain stupid.
And now, for the rest!
Shuko (210 and 211)
PROS: You actually have an example. You have mastered the first step.
CONS: You have your examples in .wav format. You have stumbled and broken both your knees on the second step. Like, ow.
VERDICT: Get an mp3 encoder. Make sure you're recording in 44-KHz, 16-bit mono quality at LEAST. Check yourself in for some tender Audacity love and care.
errrrr... Whoops. This is the first time I've had to deal with someone who submitted their profile THREE TIMES. @_@;;; Gimme a break, I ain't gettin' paid none fer dis dang thang.
Shuko (212)
PROS: Your speaking demo shows off a variety of different voices you can do, and they ARE fairly different and distinct from one another in personality/age. Your singing clip is very pleasant to listen to, indeed! You have a very pleasant voice I can imagine many a softly whispered song with a quiet, underlying strength would go well with. Your recordings are clean and free of static and background noise, if a little bit on the quiet side.
CONS: I realise that you're trying to maintain the same speed in all your voices for the speaking demo because you're basically saying one sentence with all the different voices kicking in at various points.... However, mixing in a greater variety of emotions, tones and reading speeds could really liven it up and make the listener go "Wow! That IS a lot of different voices!". Maybe even putting a different BGM for each of the voices you do would make them stand out more. Like, switch BGM every time a new voice comes up. It's a sneaky method of differentiating and enchancing your performance, which is why every single pro VA does it for their demo.
I don't really know much about singing (I'm rather terrible at it) but I noticed that "high energy" doesn't really seem to be your thing. You have a very relaxed manner for singing, so your Japanese singing, while miles better than anything I can do, sounds a little strained. It sounds like you're trying not to belt it out and let go and keep the song down a certain level, which doesn't quite work for an upbeat and fast-paced song like "I'm a Pioneer".
Finally, your recordings are clean, but a little soft. Most Flash animators have no idea how to balance their volumes properly, so there's a possibility your voice will be lost in the EXTREMELY LOUD SFX AND MUSIC. My recommendation would be to up the current volume you have by about 6, 9 or even 15dB or so.
VERDICT: Welcome to the Mainstay Roster! You have two nicely done and organised samplers recorded especially for joining the club! Very well done, indeed! I will add you to the roster next time I update the roster page.
harleychic (217)
PROS: A nice variety of voices, good recording quality relatively free of noise. I like the melancholy mood of your voice sampler. Makes me think of a movie trailer for a summer blockbuster that hasn't been made yet.
CONS: Very much on the slow-paced side, with large gaps with nothing but music between speaking parts. Noticeable clicks when you turn the microphone/recording on and off. The swelling music completely overpowers one of your voices at some point, making it sound weak and ineffectual.
VERDICT: Well, I'm very much undecided as to whether I should put you in the Mainstay or Temp Roster. You have a good voice, and you seem to know what you're doing in terms of recording and getting roles, which should put you in the Mainstay. On the otherhand, your demo seems to need a little more work to be truly impressive. Try fitting more voices in that one and a half minutes. I can't really say how good I am, but I too tend to build up samplers around the theme of "A trailer for a movie that will never be, but you wish it would cause it'd be awesome", so if you want, you can try modelling your sampler after mine? Boy, that doesn't sound arrogant. Anyway, check this out.
THE MEGAPOST IN: YOU ONLY POST TWICE
TripleArrow: I'd actually prefer it if you didn't link to specific sections because then it ruins the layout with a complete lack of a menu bar on the left-hand side. That's why there's a little warning in the title of the page. Just keep linking to http://homepages.ihu..m.au/~omahdon/NGVAC/
and tell people what sections they should be checking out by using the menu on the left, or something. Don't break my layout. It's much too elegant to be broken. Like art that isn't scratch-n-sniff.
AudioTransmitter7000: You've never actually submitted a proper "profile with a sample", I think, which is why I never added you. I mean it when I say that everyone who wants to be added to the NGVAC roster (either Temp or Mainstay) need to submit a pretty profile with all the trimmings. I'm a very hard man with hard rules and a hard drinking lifestyle. Sometimes I'm so drunk I meet sobriety on the other side.
Kerreck-Resputin: It would really help if you took deep, long breaths and not post in this thread at the speed of thought. This is a BBS messageboard, not an IM service. If you want to type one-liner posts, keep it in that IM chat program. That is where it belongs and that is where it should stay. When you have something to say here, try to make sure you try to get it all down in a single go and not have to come back ten seconds later with a mini update.... And then another.... And then another.... And THEN another. The thread isn't going to go any where, any time soon, and reading one big post is easier on the eyes than a lot of little posts that are only a couple of words long. Plus, wordy posts make you look smarter than you really are, especially when you type a lot like this. I must be an absolute friggin' genius with the size of my megaposts.
Jerma: The chaos that is "The Interweb" has invaded our little sanctuary, bringing us such wonderous gifts as "stupidity", "4th grade level education" and "l337". We are the poorer for its prescence.
BTW, as a general disclaimer if people want to get in contact with me (and its deadly urgent), please EMAIL me. I'm not checking up on this board as often as I used to, so I may miss some stuff. I have no idea why I've become this popular now that I'm not checking the thread that often (and hence liable to miss messages directed at me), but my email's at the top there linked to the "contact me" button.
Oh, and I'm glad some people are actually referring people with those frequently asked questions they keep asking to the FAQ on the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club Roster.... Where one's FAQs about the club are FAed. And good job to the people putting up those first posts on every page: D-Mac_Double and TripleArrow, I really appreciate the work you guys are doing there!
Whew. It's been about 20 pages since I last posted something substantial and checked out submitted profiles and (hopefully) samplers. Obviously a lot has been said and done (and worse besides) but to preserve everyone's sanity (and my own, to be honest) I'm probably only going to reply to things that have happened in the last 10 pages or so. That, conveniently enough, allows me to avoid talking about when this thread turned truly unpleasant and many things of an inflammatory nature were said. Since everybody's said what I wanted to say about that already, and people are probably sick and tired of hearing about it, I shall move on. And I am not a coward at all. And so! Onwards to the megapost, I say! Starting from page 218! Hurrah!
Shuko: Sorry about the whole "Not checking out your profile and sampler submission" thing until now, that's my bad. I just avoided looking at the NG BBS for a couple of days while everything calmed down and was truly over, before crawling back here with my tail between my legs. But worry not, I have not missed reading your submitted profile! .... All three of them. You're a very enthusiastic gal, you know that? And as for who I am.... *I* am the shadow that creeps in the night! *I* am the darkness that all evil fears! *I* am the great, magnificient, most supremely gifted superhuman that has ever graced this world.... Edwyn. Boy is my name an anti-climax, sometimes. .... Most times. .... All the time. .... I'm sad now.
TVs_Slayer: I too wish I could speak to my fellow VAs with greater clarity and with open arms of friendship. The only problem is, I secretly hate everyone and everything. Including myself. Hence such opening of communications between peoples on the NGVAC will inevitably lead to ruin, chaos and decay. Ah well. It's a nice happy, shiney people thought, anyway. And just let go man. Let the anger flooooooow through you, in rants filled to the brim with caustic, sarcastic intent towards people with no samplers and even less intelligence. I would go free reign crazy on such people, but I believe I am done with theat phase of my life. Now, I must move on to being generally insane. Insane at your computer desk filled with STUPH. My god, that's a lot of STUPH you got there. I want that stuph. Be wary: For one day, when you return home from one of your trips interstate, all your STUPH may have been mysteriously vanished via mysterious sources.
MC_Huggies: I find it disturbing that you, D-Mac_Double and Depp_X have tried to imitate my voice and/or do so on a regular basis. It's flattering, yet disturbing at the same time. Why, the next time I wander into a Yahoo! Voicechat and hear someone talking just like me, I'll think to myself, "My god! What is my voice doing coming out of another person's name? Perhaps they have stolen my voice from me while I slept, and cloned it in some nefarious scheme!" And then I'd go cuckoo and break into people's houses and try cutting out their vocal chords screaming, "GIVE ME BACK MY WORDS, YOU THIEVER OF MY VOICE!" You can't say it won't happen because it hasn't happened yet. And that would make a darned good title for some steamy romance novel too: "Thiever of my Voice". Or maybe a comedic cat-burglar caper. I'm sane.
D-Mac_Double: Done and done, chibi_lila has been removed from the roster. And keep up the good work with the first post thang! Sure, people keep skipping it, but at least when we yell at them, we have a legitimate reason to do so when the instructions are RIGHT THERE AT THE TOP.
LeonTheAlchemist: What continues to boggle my mind is how many people come here, expecting to join a voice acting club, WITHOUT A MICROPHONE. I mean, it's easily rectified by a quick trip to any computer electronics store and plunking down some cash for a $10 mouthpiece but GAWD. People. Stop for a moment and think, "Do I have the proper equipment to demonstrate my voice acting mad l337 ski11z?". I suppose this club is a little "hands-on" than most in the Clubs & Crew section of the NG BBS though, so I guess people can be confused.... But then how do they expect to do voice acting for flashes when they do not possess a microphone? It's almost Zen-like: "What is the sound of one hand clapping?", "If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?", "How does one commit to the task of voice acting for flashes, when one possesses not a microphone?" Crazy.
topleka: *gasps* You doth praise me too much. That makes me extremely excited with LUST brought on by said PRAISE. I call it: PRAISE-LUST. Wear this Sailor Moon costume and let's get BUSAH! *holds up a sailor moon costume with a weird sparkle in my eye* Oh wait, this one's mine. I love the feel of skin-tight lycra and badly fitting coloured wigs on my body. @_@
Revenge_Is_Fun: A woman who collects action figures? You're my kind of lady. Rworl. Oh, why are the good ones always taken/young/an ocean away! It's an infernal fate, I tell you! ;_;
TESM: That Ren and Stimpy Season 1 and 2 DVD boxset will someday be mine. YES! IT WILL BE MINE! And it better not be nostalgia that's lying to me that it's good, damnit!
49Animations: I'm still here, just not posting as often as I used to, that's all! Still here and very much alive, much to the chagrin of those who secretly want me dead! I know who you are! You'll never get me, you filthy would-be psychic murderers! YOUR WAVES OF PSYCHIC MURDERING ENERGY DOTH NOT AFFECT ME IN THE LEAST! HA! Paranoia is what keeps me alive and sane. It's also what's for dinner. Mmmmmm.... A steaming pile of paranoia.
cajunthief: I have no idea why you're having so much trouble with uploading stuff and linking it here, but none of the links you posted so far work. Look, next time you upload something, try downloading it yourself to see if the link actually worked BEFORE posting it here. Saves you a lot of time and trouble posting and then getting frustrated afterwards when it doesn't work. And listen to D-Mac_Double, since he seems to know what he's on about.
THE MEGAPOST WILL RETURN
Geez. I leave for less than a week and the goddamn frickin' SUN goes SUPERNOVA.
I think I'll come back later after I had a good night's sleep with the assistance of some alcoholic beverages. Urgh. Must.... summon.... megapost.... powers.... infaceof!... shit.... hitting.... the fan.
So get ready for next time, folks! Cause I'm gonna go STIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIR CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAZ-EH! In moderation of course. Moderation like CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAZ-EH! that is! Yeeha!
(i'm in my happy place right now, nothing can touch me whilst i am in my happy place)

Frogs: But my resume page must always remain unnamed! For you see, in every name lies the possibility of an ANTI-name, that exists in the background ready to wipe out the very name it is attached to when it is uttered! The collision of name and anti-name would surely result in confusion and madness for all! So thus.... The VA Resume With No Name.... Must remain so. For it shall be the stable beacon to whom all who were once named and now not will be drawn to. That and I am a lazy bastard to come up with something more interesting. Heck, the NGVAC roster was originally going to be called "The Newgrounds Voice Acting Club Roster With No Name" until I realised.... It had a name before the "With No Name" part. Such trickery had befallen me!
Also: Nice to hear you had a nice time at AX! I actually know that Lucien guy better than that Lex guy, you met, but yeah a lot of my VAA buddies were at thatcrazy shindig known as AX. Only wish I could have joined them. I bet I'd have totally devastated the opposition with my absolutely cool, suave voice that would devastate them all! Aw yeah! I'm just too cool! Yeah! Ed's the man, man!
-Steven-: Hey, nice work there! Smooth animation and quite amusing to watch. But.... Why bother with the "change the name slightly" approach if you're going to thank George Lucas in the credits? The whole point of "changing the name slightly" is so that you don't HAVE to thank the original creators in the credits: You can just turn around and say, "It's only KINDA like that character! He wears black, has a cape, a similar-looking mask and a glowing rod thing..... But he's not like that character at all!". Well, something along those lines anyway. In any case, looking forward to future episodes of this! You look like you've got a firm handle on what you're doing, so I'm interested in seeing what you can cook up.
Bickster: Well, if it isn't THE BEST MALE VOICE ACTOR ON THE WHOLE OF NEWGROUNDS. Howyas? You're on the Temp Roster, I believe.
Fighterspledge: Well, AX has its own website here, since it's a pretty big event beyond all the amateur voice actors meeting up and-- Wait a minute. Who the heck are you, and what are you doing asking this question here?
Shock_Dingo: Thanks for doing the first page post, though I'd much prefer it if you could use the new link to the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club Roster. I mean there's a redirect at the page you're linking to now, but that link I just gave is the current one.
And in other news, I wrote this while slightly drunk. I believe I am more amusing that way. I don't know. G'night everybody!
TVs_Slayer: I would sincerely hope people would use the roster! I didn't make that goddamned FAQ section with all the questions that usually get tossed around here about the NGVAC for nothing.... At least, I'm pretty sure I got the most frequently asked questions in the FAQ. I sure hope I did, anyway.
Fenix_Onslaught: Ahhhhh.... But where would I be if I couldn't berate someone for their rampant ignorance of the rules when it is so clearly stated at the top of most pages on this thread, or in the post RIGHT BEFORE THE INFIDEL posted? Surely you would not derive me of this one pleasure I gain from posting these long, occasionally (usually) nonsensical megaposts, that one cannot read without raising their left eyebrow and wondering if I am not completely out of my mind.
Seriously though, new people will continue to be new people. Ignoring them is plainly not going to help, as one can see with someone like Plaid_Mime, who continued to post and fill up the thread with spam. Quite frankly, I'd rather just post one of these megaposts where I go INSANE WITH MAD-CRAZED FURY, then just ignore them and let them continue on their merry spamming way. But still, it's not a bad idea to add that sort of disclaimer to the first page post from now on: "Failure to follow the above rules will probably result in us verbally berating you or just plain ignoring you ever existed". On the otherhand, we already DO say something like that.... It's just that: Nobody ever seems to listen. Ah well.
TESM: Dude, you seriously need to CHILL. I mean, it's NICE that you're offering to help with reviewing people's samples and offering to tutor people in the ways of audio recording, that's no problem. On the otherhand, you seriously gotta lay off that whole "I AM THE HAND OF AUTHORITY! THOU SHALT LISTEN TO THE EDICTS THAT I DISPENSE AND OBEY!" thang you got going. At first, I thought it was kinda funny, but now I'm starting to think you're taking this whole roleplay of some kind of tiered system of authority in the NGVAC waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously. You're not the First Lieutenant-Commander of the Unionist Combat-Freighter Vecorsity, I'm not the Grand Admiral of the Seventh Novemtant Battalion in the Figularis Nebula, and AudioTransmitter7000 is certainly not an Executive Technician on the Service-Tug Madidus XXIV, whose sole duty is to make sure that vending machines never run of candy bars and packets of crisps. CHILL. Be cool man. Be cool.
Fernie417: Righto, good to see that you're around! You'll be added to the Mainstay Roster shortly.
I_OWN_HELL: Actually, I was referring to the ambient noise that always exists due to a combination of the computer fan, the air around you, even the very prescence of your body. That noise will always exist unless you get a program that has a noise reduction feature. But as long as you don't get your dad to temporarily lift the ban to get some good recording software out there for download, you'll probably be stuck with it, unfortunately. Then there's the fact you're saving in .wav, as well.
Renewman: Whoa. By the time you get this message all the roles will probably be gone, so I'll just say: Good luck with your production, same to your cast and crew.
KagomeHigurashi: I didn't make those comments about your voice to worry you, I just meant that you have nothing to worry about with your natural voice at all, since you seemed to have a whole "My natural voice sucks! SO BADLY!" going. I think it sounded perfectly fine, like the voices you use for your anime-style productions. And apparently the VA/singing competition is something that happenes every yearat AX. Winner gets to take a trip to some studio and record lines too, I believe.
AudioTransmitter7000: I can't seem to download your samplers from the NG AUdio Portal to make a proper judgement on your samples, but based upon the opinions of various other NGVACers around here I'd say you've made it unto the Temp Roster at the very least. Time, experience and a better mic with a bit more audio editting knowledge should go a long ways to getting you in the Mainstay Roster at a later date.
In terms of a mic, try and get your mitts on a USB one. If you don't know what kind of a soundcard you have, it's most likely an onboard soundcard and those are notoriously bad for sound reproduction. Get yourself a USB mic to bypass the whole "dirty, crappy, staticky jacks" problem as well as bypassing the eternal "analogue to digital waveform" conversion problem since your voice samples 'automatically' become a digital signal with the USB mic. Logitech does good USB mics, I think. Of course, if you want to go the whole hog, you'd need to pick yourself up a good condenser stand mic with spit shield and one of them newfangled Creative Audigy 4 Pro soundcards. The quality will make your ears BLEED with happiness. Lacking that sizeable budget, a USB mic can do a good job with some edits and a nice chianti. Hell, I'm using a $20 Labtech computer microphone connected to an Audigy 1 soundcard and I get by okay.
And loosen up, man. You radiate that "newb" signal far too much for it to be healthy. And listen to Frogs, check out the roster. Specifically the FAQ on how to use some of the more popular recording programs out there. It won't teach you any specific tips, but there are external links to a variety fo tutorials for stuff like Goldwave, Audacity, Cool Edit etc.
Well, I guess it's time for profile reviews.
.... *shudders*
My pain is a world neverending.
Every single goddamned moronic dolt who posted a goddamn profile without a goddamn sample attached you goddamned dirty apes!
And now my reviews of people who have posted profiles with ACTUAL F***ING SAMPLERS IN THEM in the last couple of pages.
Fernie417 (201)
PROS: Your sampler shows a wide variety of performances and some different voices. This is more than adequate to prove you can do a variety of different roles if called upon.
CONS: Nothing as such, though I'd say your sampler is VERY soft. Most Newgrounds' flash producers have no idea how to balance sound properly, so your voice could be lost in the mix of EXTREMELY LOUD SFX AND MUSIC. Just try to record your lines at about +15dB, as a general tip.
VERDICT: Welcome to the Mainstay Roster! Your sampler displays a wide range in vocal ability and you're more than welcome here. All you have to do is reply to the NGVAC thread one more time to prove that you're alive and not some guy who posts once with their profile and never again.
TheLastDinosaur (202)
PROS: You have an array of voices and performing styles represented in your samplers.
CONS: Your vocal performance is hampered by the fact that you say the same thing several times over in those different voices. Although it's amusing, try to find a unique point for each of the voices to revolve around next time, otherwise they sort of mix into one another. For example, your normal voice and your two deep voices sound basically the same to me, because even though the voices were different, the read was exactly the same. It sounds like one guy reading the same thing in three different pitches rather than three different characters. Also, it'd be a lot easier on everyone involved if you could have all the clips in a single megaclip so we don't have to download all these seperate smaller clips. You also have quite a bit of background noise in your clips that you can clean up nicely with a bit of Audacity involved.
VERDICT: You'll be added to the Temp Roster. Man, I just repeated what Frogs and several tohers have said up there. I am superfluous.
Plaid_Mime (202)
PROS: Not a clue. I'm basing this on Frogs' opinion of your clip.
CONS: Your mp3 isn't opening for me, and I get the feeling that might be the same with a lot of people. Check your mp3 codecs.
VERDICT: You'll be added to the Temp Roster, just to stop your fit of "amigettingaddednow? amigettingaddednow? amigettingaddednow?" spam.
And that's it for this round. I'm your Megapost Host for this evening: Omahdon! Signing off! Right now! Oh yeah, and according to my count, this is the 50th megapost that I've done. That makes it about 4 pages per megapost by me! Man. I need a life. But now I go! WOOSH!
THAT NEXT TIME IS NOW!
K_Chan: Errrrr.... Interesting clips, the Purple Rose story was. The music didn't really match your reading speed though. You were going a million miles per hour in a valley girl mallrat voice, while the music was trying to establish a quiet, somber mood better suited to a quiet table read by an English author of her latest romance novel. Nice work despite the jarring mood, though.
Renewman: Much like Frogs, I don't really feel like registering with a new forum in order to get lines or character profiles. Unlike Frogs though, I actually went ahead and registered.... And found nothing there that really couldn't be easily posted here. I'm glad you decided to post more details here, but seriously: The super secrecy thing? Not needed. Just give us some audition lines for each character and we'll gladly help you out. Surely you can pick a couple of choice, non-spoilerish dramatic lines for us to audition for? I have yet to see a script where every single line is completely arbitrary without a single punctuation mark of extraneous material, that can't be used as an audition line. Still, it looks like you're getting auditions anyway, so who am I to question your methods of getting VAs?
MC_Huggies: The creaming of one's pants at the sight of the new Newgrounds Voice Acting Club Roster is a legitimate response, and I heartily approve. I must pimp the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club Roster every chance I can get, because apparently some people just don't know that the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club Roster exists. That is most troubling to the one who maintains the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club Roster, who is I.
Frogs: Dude! You're like.... Totally stealing my megaposts away from me! Give it back! GIVE ME BACK MY LOST DREAMS! @_@ But anyway. Sarcasm is my favourite means of communication. Why, I'm being sarcastic right NOW. Wrap your mind around that one. It's kinda spooky when you follow it all the way through. And.... *gasps* You're bowing down to the machinations of middle management known as THE MAN??? For shame! FOR SHAME! Through off that shirt and tie job and live wild and free! WILD AND FREE! And penniless and hungry. BUT WILD AND FREE! .... Ehhhh.... Wild and free is overrated, I guess. Good luck with your job interview!
wesdood: Who the heck are you? O.o
Placebo: glargh.
weirdoo: dlargh.
KagomeHigurashi: I like the new, redone first page post you got on the bottom of 202. It'd be nicer if you could have copy-n-pasted the form from the Want to Join? section of the roster itself so there's a consistency between that and the first page repost, though. Oh, and I'm all for Frog's suggestion of including "email 4 samples k plz?" as an invalid excuse for not having a sampler uploaded. Of course, none of this is going to matter as long as we don't know who to actually email to change that goshdarned first post, goshdarnit! And as for your clip of your real voice.... To be honest, I'm not hearing that much of a difference between that and your other clips where you plainly aren't speaking with an anime-ish sort of voice. If someone where to present this clip alongside with your other clips, I'd make the connection they were done by the same person straight away.
Yusato: Great. So now there's two of you. Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Absolutely WONDERFUL. When it rains, it pours. Oh, and: rlargh
Orius_Director: plargh. And what I said for Plaid_Mime applies to you too: Stop the spreading the spam.
Number of grunts of absolute disgust at people who post their profiles without samplers: 5
I guess I was being highly optimistic when I thought redesigning the acceptance rate/standards for people on the roster would change the level of profiles submitted. What an optimistic fool I was! Oh! The sheer optimism burns into my mind like a thousand exploding suns!
First of all, check out my spiffy brand new look (and sections) for my VA Resume With No Name! Second of all.... Ah, let's just get straight into the megapost while I'm still young.
topleka: Hmmmmmm.... I may have to take you up on your offer, to soothe my wounded ego! Yes, you shall now dress up in this maid's outfit! *holds up maid outfit. insert psychotic string symphony here* @_@
TESM: I think I've mentioned before, but yeah those are nice renditions of KitsuneSqueak and topleka there. Keep moving in that general direction and I think you'll be fine. And on your latest picture.... Is it just me, or does Klepto_Bysmal look vaguely like what my character is supposed to look like? Or maybe it's just the glasses that's throwing me off.
Shalamaseskia: Your apparent psychic powers about your mother's luck with pets astound and bewilder me. This has caused me to spin the ulimate conspiracy theory where YOU are in FACT a PET SHOP OWNER who make ACCIDENTS happen with deliberate SABOTAGE. And I like using CAPITALISED LETTERS a lot whemn I'm playing a DETECTIVE.
fallen_son: blargh.
I_OWN_HELL: Dude, turn off the caps button. You desecrate my eyes with your loony talk. And if your dad is blocking you from downloading new programs you should do the only thing possible to solve this dillema: Kill your dad. I reccommend using a soft nylon rope, commonly found in any nearby tool store, wrap it around his neck and then strangling him to death. Thus, you can download all the programs you want after that! But then you'd go to prison for patricide. But you can always plead insanity from not being able to record your voice clips on anything better than sound recorder! It worked for [insert famous celebrity here]! Score!
Anyway, your latest clip was a LOT clearer and less static-y and background noiseful than it was before. There's still a definitely audible level of noise left, but it's serviceable and you we can actually hear what you're saying now without enormous strain. It's just a pity it's still not mp3 but hey: Just follow my suggestion above and you'll be all set.
Plaid_Mime: Your mp3 voice demos didn't work for me before and they STILL don't work for me, now. The only person who's been able to deal with your weird mp3 encoding has been Frogs and you didn't even bother to look at his response to your sampler. I personally think you're using a shoddy mp3 encoding program of some kind to do your mp3s (or maybe just the codec), and need to download new codecs. And as the great American philosopher, Samuel L. Jackson, would say, "SHUT THE FUCK UP, please". Only he wouldn't include the "please" at the end, I'm just far too polite. Your constant spam on this thread is goddamned annoying and if I were terribly unfair, I'd say you shouldn't get added to the club's roster at all based on how god-farking-damned annoying you are. Hell, you don't even know that the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club Roster exists, do you? Why are you so eager with the keymashing and asking if you joined, in that case?
Hobbes_The_Prince: Thanks for the kind words about the roster man. Actually, the extended and compact views of the roster have always been there, it's just that.... Well, I guess some people missed them or something. But anyway, the added permanent menu on the left should help ease navigation troubles tenfold! And how could I forget you were Canadian.... ON FAMILY??? And wow, that was a pretty short break, but I guess any break is better than none! I myself have to look forward to going back to University in three more weeks! .... Urgh.
TVs_Slayer: Congratulations on the front-pager for Grave 3, biatchedy! It's a fun game, though it runs like absolute ass on my system. Rats. Still, that means I get to kill things a lot easier cause they. Move. So. Slow. Like. This. HA! And Mortal Kombat Annihilation? You poor man. I never thought there'd be a video game film worse than Streetfighter: The Movie..... But MKA tops ALL. At least Streetfighter had Raul Julia crazily hamming it up as M. Bison. And then he died. From shame. While the entirety of the cast of MKA still lives. THERE IS NO JUSTICE IN THIS WORLD!
-NightCrawler-: Congratulations on the 4+ score and the frontpage for Sonic: Matrixa Finale 1/2! I'm glad we VAs here at the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club managed to do our job right and give your movie that extra layer of funnage! You misspelled my name in the credits, though. Common mistake: It's Omahdon, not Ohmadon. You have no idea how often that happens. O.o Anyway, looking forward to the second half of this finale and hope you approve my INCREASE THE VOLUME OF ACTORS TO MAXIMUM LOUDNESS proposal you got in your email. I think it'll seriously help the clarity and prescence of the voice actors involved. Especially the "prescence" part. Currently, the VAs have to fight an uphill battle against the music volume to have their lines heard.
TO BE CONCLUDED! NEXT TIME!

Okay.

(twiddles thumbs*
Well, I guess nobody's noticed the massive redesign with new written sections that took ages to do.
.....
I'll just go away now and take a bath. Maybe I'll take a couple of razors with me.
doo doo doo doo doooooooo.... *waddles off*

yessss participated on my fist voice acting movie (and RTS can't give out much kinda secret)i'm so happy now =)
Dear god. I sure hope it wasn't the demo in your sig that convinced whoever casted you to cast you. Because, I'm going to be honest here, that was ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS. Your sound quality is terrible, you have background noise invading every crevice, every nook, every cranny of your sampler. Your voices are okay, however. But your QUALITY. GOD!
And wav??? WAV??? In an age where audio editing programs roam wild and free on the internet, you leave your "sample" in wav? Let me guess, you recorded that with Sound Recorder as well, didn't you? Oh god.
Look in the FAQ. Now.
HAPPY 200TH PAGE EVERYONE! THE FIRST SEASON IS OVER, NOW THE SECOND ONE BEGINS!
It shall be filled with mystery! Magic! Characters from other worlds! Aliens! Giant mutant head babies! EXCITEMENT! And pudding.
