That line above is quite sensational but truths always hurt. @Lachi and AeroMusic put it in the very right points. Unless you are the top guns, right now good luck daydreaming. And instead doing so, focus on making your music better.
Never compared myself to Zimmer, just used him as an example. If you read trough the post you'd see I'm asking $25 a minute.
What about me charging for my music automatically makes you people think that I've got no idea what I'm doing? You may think I'm daydreaming, but I think you should really try and come out of your shell and stop being such a pessimist. Don't think I can do it? Good for you. Not to piss on your parade, but I could care less about people telling me I can't. I was born with a hearing impairment that messed up my concept of pitch, and I was told I could never write or play music. I ignored them, just like I'll ignore you. Being hearing impaired makes the ignore-the-naysayers game much easier. Less to tune out.
Thanks to everyone who came in with CONSTRUCTIVE input. A bit more on my situation; I've been doing music for a couple of years now, and my hours at work have been cut, usual struggling artist BS. I've been doing some free composition work already, because I needed experience, (I knew I needed experience and I didn't just hop in on this to make cash just now for shiggles, I HAVE been working towards this point,) their budget was literally non-existent as it was a volunteer ting, and it was just a kickass concept working with all sort of stuff I loved.
I've gotten great feedback, and even after me doing this for hours on end and rushing during our Halloween special prep to meet deadlines, I found my love for it didn't decrease. If I could do this all day, every day, why NOT try and get money from it?
So I posted around at $25 a minute of delivered audio COMPOSED SPECIFICALLY for their project. I'm not making songs THEN selling them. This is custom stuff. My premade stuff I offer for free to people who don't have budgets. Again, to some of the less-than-stellar input, I'm not trying to make a sit ton of money where none can be made. I know what it's like to not be able to afford things. In each of my posts, I even mention that the price is negotiable. But thanks for your assumptions.
And if that above doesn't show how off the mark you were with your "go home, kid" attitude. I have already been contacted by someone willing to meet my terms. When he revealed his budget, I suggested he lowered the price.
I'm not some inflexible kid jumping onto a bandwagon. Again, for those of you with the great input, I thank you. Just read through it all after coming home from work, and I agree, it all really is flexible. I suppose I'll just keep that tentative rate up there and see if I get a bite. Much thanks!

How long until musicians stop doing things for free? Maybe there's a reason we barely make a living.

Considering I've already gotten one offer (having just posted last night in various locations) I'd say it's plausible. I'm sure Hans Zimmer, Klaus Badelt, Nicholas Hoopers, and others would agree that composing for a living is possible. Am I Hans Zimmer? No. But even he had to start somewhere.
Inferring I don't have a job was also uncalled for. I'm actually in the process of looking for a second one, not that it should really be relevant. There's a difference between being realistic and negative, and I feel that you were just being negative.

As charismatically as you managed to put that, I'm going to decline that advice. Thanks.
Been doing my best to get back into music, and now that I am, and I have a bit of experience under my belt, I'm looking to get paid for my work. I know big-timers can get $1,000 a minute for their audio, and I've seen smaller people ask for $50 a minute of delivered audio. Personally, I've got a couple of bandcamp albums, and I compose regularly for a YouTube channel. I'm no Nicholas Hooper, so I thought $25 a minute seemed like a reasonable rate to get my foot in the door.
I could be wrong, though.
Anyone have any experience or opinions on the matter? Would love to hear them.

transform.Translate(Vector3.forward * 15 * Time.deltaTime);

Anyone have any idea?

Are you familiar with Unity3d? As far as making games go, I don't know ANYTHING. I've done a bit of javascript, a bit of modeling, etc. Lots of dabbling, but no cement experience. I'm always game to work with other people :D
Right now, I'm making miniature games. Each test game will be a variation of a component of the main game I wish to complete, just to practice the coding and everything. Once I figure out what I'm doing with the smaller ones, I can start the main project.
Again, ALWAYS game to work with people!

Javascript. I have a couple of textbooks on the subject from before I dropped out of college.
Using Unity for the game, and trying to figure out Maya for the objects and rooms.
And I've no clue what I'm doing. Tonight I'm watching tutorials and mapping out the concepts, theme, etc. If you would like to help, or just peak in to see what's going on, that'd be cool. I'll be looking for beta-testers, assuming my attention span holds long enough to get to that point.
The concept so far:
[Key words: Horror, depression, mazes, wit]
--The story is set in a building of unknown shape, origin, and function. In various rooms, connected by a large labyrinthine chamber, there are blind children wearing school uniforms, whispering to themselves in a corner. In the maze itself, you must try and find a door you can open before being caught by a sketchily animated rag doll, who's approach is always measured by the volume drum track.
--The children, upon being triggered, suddenly change. Their eyes turn red, and they screech, signalling the beginning of their "game." Each child has a different form, and different strategies are used to outwit each one. Upon their death, you retrieve a slip of paper from their uniform pocket. These papers spell out the answers to the questions, which are required to open each door.
Thoughts or questions? I can TRY and answer, haha.

So I would really like to step up my music making skills to the next level.
To do this, I think improving my mixing skills would be very beneficial, but I really don't know where to start.
I use FL studios 10, but is there some feature or other program i should utilize to mix my music? All I currently use is the default mixer that comes with Fl.
My music sounds like this: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/530061
And I would like it to sound more like this: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/75190
Haha I know I won't reach that level for a while (awesome song btw), but I am wondering how to get notes to be more dynamic, and to have the cymbals, drums, or bass mesh with other sounds.
Thanks,
-Spidy :D
You may definitely want to look into VSTs, for a better sound with more of the dynamics you're looking for. There are loads of free ones out there. Once you've got all the instruments to have the tone and timbre you want, then you can start working on the over-all picture.
If you post to soundcloud, try cloudkillers. It's a comment-for-comment type of site, and if people know you're looking for tips and feedback, they'll try and help you. Lots of professional producers there, too :D

I'm a fan of how CloudKillers defines a good review. I told a writer I kinda manage that in order to gain some form of "name" in the industry, to make a habit of posting on GoodReads. Conquer GR, and then once that's a habit, find another outlet. Basically I said to post at least once before work, and once after. I think I should make this my own habit regarding audio reviews here.
I also keep a list of people who give terrible reviews (as in vague or unhelpful, not as in 2/5) or who do not reply to your audio reviews (unless they have like 600 reviews. Then I could get the idea of them being busy) so I'm not wasting my energy where it doesn't seem to be needed/wanted.

This book is odd in who it targets, so as far as Lust being more lusty, I'm going to have to hold back. I want this book to be full on insinuations, but something that a child could read. Hopefully a child would read it and see an adventure novel, while adults read it and see corrution and decay. That was the whole idea behind the book.
As for backdrops, I think I have a good idea.
Thanks again, Maltos!

My biggest problem with the story is the 8th castle stayed kept and presentable but no one had been seen there yet no one ever questioned it's existence exept for an eleven year old girl with a dying brother. In a world of such darkness where the word (nice) is used more to describe a person that causes no harm, an eleven year old girl would be missed if she were gone for more than an hour. This story has potential, what i enjoyed was way you used sin to describe a world with nothing but sin. Being in the middle of 8 castles with nothing but darkness and no one willing to give information it would be a frustrating situation but i didnt feel that with the main character. Lastly the 8th castle holding hope, a hope that would be willing to help anyone, i wonder why would hope lock intself into a castle that screems Good Guy Over Here! At the same time the lock on the door can only be opened with the seven keys guarded by sins in the other castels.
I'm currently writing a book off and on. I haven't touched it since December, since I'm trying to get some feedback on what I have so far. I'm willing to trade critiques for critiques or reviews depending on the size of your work.
Keep working on it i know how a work in progress can be i hope i wasnt too hard on your story and i look forward to reading more from you
I needed somebody to be hard on me. Too many people just saying "Nice story" really doesn't help, ya know?
-Dialogue. I added the souls just for that. Will have some memories come back from conversations between Dianam and Cavin, so I'll note the need for more descriptions. Looking over the intro again, I can see that it could used beefed up. I'm too used to writing short stories, I guess...
-Detail. I kick myself for over and over. I've literally been going over it in layers. Write a bit, re-read add details. Write a bit, re-read, add detail. Let it sit. Re-read, add details. Were there any particular points that needed it? I haven't added any since before she met the first sin, and I plan on going over what I have again sometime soon. If a particular chunk needs work, I'll be sure to give it extra attention.
-Questioning the eight castle. I could elaborate on that as well. I mean, people will muse over it, but there's no one out there for them to pillage. Fear might be keeping most of the me away, in case it were a greater sin. I could definitely think on that.
-Dianam missing. I can't really tie that in too much with the story, because it's all in Dianam's point of view. Her mom can't exactly leave a sick kid to look for her. Besides, one less mouth to feed. This gets more worked into the story when a Sin tries to turn Dianam to the dark side, so to speak.
-Lack of frustration. I'll tie this in when I fluff up the intro a bit. Dianam is actually very influenced by Alice from Alice in Wonderland in term of mannerisms, but unlike Alice, Dianam has to be optimistic, more for her brother's sake than anything. Also, as children, this darkness is all they've known. I suppose I can use some of the older villagers as a juxtapose...
-Good guy locking his shiz? No way. Can't say too much without ruining the story. I'm just gonna point out that I never said there WAS a good guy in there. Dianam just thinks there is ;D
I really appreciate this, Maltos. Been trying to get some constructive feedback, but everyone's too busy.
