You don't really need to worry too much about the voice. With practise you get into it a little more and it comes off more natural. There are rappers with all kinds of voices! Natural is the way to go.

As for practise, just do it all the time.
If you write some lyrics to a particular beat, do them over a few times.
Try to freestyle in your head while you go somewhere. You will start of really badly but eventually your brain will settle into it and it will become easier.

Someone else wrote something about 'do lots of takes and use the best parts from each one'. I wouldn't do this personally. As you're recording, if you don't like the first take then do it again, but keep the original because sometimes you do 6 or 7 and they just get worse and worse.
Learning when to breathe is one of the most important things.
