Response to: Newgrounds: The System Posted August 22nd, 2014 in Where is / How to?

I feel the goal for Newgrounds would be to try and incentivize the reviewing of submissions instead of voting. Perhaps a reward level of "pens"? I posted my thoughts for this somewhere else but I think it should focus on a centralized frontpage challenge to review 5 randomly selected recent posts in all catagories music/art/games/movies.

It would make it easier to go out and give reviews, and make us want to give reviews. It's just an idea, but I think that with the proper care and development, coupling this system with a "like" system would help cultivate a larger, and more active, feedback focused community.

If you wanted you could also implement a way to opt out of certain genres and age restrictions, so that not only would this system cause more reviews to be done on certain content, but it would help drive it to a target audience.

I don't care that I got a bunch of 5 votes on my song. I mean sure, it feels nice. But I don't actually know it's impact. I don't know how to improve. Similarly, zero bombs, they only make me feel bad and I have no idea what you did not like with the song.

I don't feel to bad about it though :). I felt like I was able to submit a track that I was satisfied with and that showed my skill,
And every single one of the 64 participants are awesome artists that deserved it :).
Well, guess I'll try again next year XD.

I didn't make it in either. But hey, we are way overdue on another collab! If we keep on working I'm sure either of us could make it in next year.

So for real this time,

lol How many times have you changed your submission? You're Troisnyx for fucks sake, I'm sure you'll get in.

That is an interesting way to look on it as well.

Thanks for the alternate view Back-From-Purgatory.

It's not so much that I look down on people that use presets, but that I look down on them as a means for me to make music. A self imposed restriction. The reason why I posted this is I wanted to get some differing opinions because I want to keep improving. At one point I thought improving meant making my own sounds from scratch but now I think it might be time to try using presets in some manner but tweak them using my new skills.

So I might try breaking this little paradigm I have stuck myself into and start using presets again.

Still need some musics made? I'd be happy to chip in!

Using presets Posted March 31st, 2014 in Audio

I'm not sure if any body else has the same deal I have with this but I imagine a few do. I used to use presets but that was a long time ago, eventually I figured out how to manufacture my own synthetic sounds. Since that point I avoid using presets like the plague and tend to look down upon generators that focus on providing many presets instead of providing me with a bunch of knobs and junk :P.

Does any body else feel the same way, and if so/not why do you feel that way?

One problem I find is I tend to stick to similar sounding synths I have made, or when I make one it sounds a bit samey. What are some tips you have to escaping the norm and making diverse sounds?

For dirty trick, you could right click the tempo and edit it. Use mouse to 'paint' the tempo levels, the higher the level the faster is tempo. This is especially useful for humanizing piano piece.

o.e

For years... For years I have been using this program. There is always a really cool feature to learn about.

I just saw this thread, I don't usually browse the forums much. I am totally in if this becomes a thing. Collabs are fun.

I can do more than 8-bit yes. I normally do classical but I'm not sure how that would fit into a game. And of course the normal electronica genre I can do.

Do you need music? I can do music :P

Want to make music for a game Posted March 9th, 2013 in Collaboration

It's something I'd really like to do, and I think I may be to the point of being able to create something really good for a game. My strenths are in more classical, and 8-bit and I am relatively okay in other electronic genres.

My latest song is 8-bit and can be found here: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/526428

I can make full songs and loops, really whatever you want. If you like what you hear send me a message. :)
