Hey Newbie97!

Thanks a lot for your remarks, the first two were only mistakes left in the text, what I am mostly interested in is the "- you think" part.

Isnt there a rule about narrating a sentence what is in present tense, that you should put the - you think - you ask statements in past tense?

Like: "I am going to the mall" -- you answered, while putting up your clothes.

I am making a text based adventure game by the way, in the style of choose your adventure books, if you know those. That is where I use this narrative in second person, the reader is always "you".

Ifritgames

When you write in any tense, the person can say anything they want in any tense, and it doesn't have to be the same tense. I can talk right now (present) about yesterday, today or tomorrow. Yesterday,(past) I might have told you about last week, or my plans for today, or what I'm doing in the future. And tomorrow, I might look back on my childhood, or review what I did today, or make plans for next weekend. Any way you want to combine them works. So...3x3=9. You can pick any of the 9 ways to write it. There is no rule that says any of them does not work.

Like: "I am going to the mall" -- you answered, while putting up your clothes.

There is not a rule, people just do that ("I'm fixing my sink,(present)" she said (past).) a lot in books. Here is an example that is still okay:

"I am going to the mall," you say. He looks at you carefully. "Why?" he asks you. You frown at him and say, "because I want to buy shoes!"

It is not a solid rule, it's just that people write a lot of books in the past tense: ("Hello!" he said.) If you are doing a second-person point of view (you say, you do, you think) because it's a text adventure, then you would normally write it in the present anyway. (You open the door and the witch says "Who are you?") As far as I know, there is not a rule on what tense you use, it's just that some combinations of tenses are more popular than others.

So basically, there's no rule. Usually, with text adventures, you can just put everything in the present tense. Like the example about buying shoes.

You only get about halfway up, when you trip over in some rock. "Or was it the sand tricking me?" -- you wonder while rolling back down to the bottom of the hill.

"It might not be a good idea to enter that room" -- you thought after hearing that noise.

Ifritgames

*you trip over some rock* (I took out the word "in")
*Or was it the sand tripping me?* (I think you wanted to say "tripping", but maybe I'm wrong)
*you think, after hearing that noise* ("thought" is past tense, when something already happened before, but the rest of what you wrote looks like it's in present tense and is happening now, and the past tense of "thought" has a present tense of "think")

Good luck with whatever you're writing.

Also, if it's incredibly small, and it happens to be on Android, may I suggest MIT's App Inventor 2? It's got drag-n-drop programming that's actually pretty useful.

-Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue

-Make two different games that share a universe/storyline, or just otherwise complement each other

-Hands (like your hands, or clock hands, apparently there's a band named hands, dealing a card hand)

-You Play As A Zombie. I say "AS" a zombie, not like you breed them as an army, or you shoot them as a survivor, but you actually ARE one.

-2d to 3d and 3d to 2d
where you could use 2d software like flash to make an apparently 3d game, or 3d software like unity to make an apparently 2d game.

You see, NG was created on 6 July 1995... which means 6 July 2015, ie sometime next year, is NG's 20th anniversary!
I'm thinking of some massive art, audio and animation collab or some such, but I'd really like to see what you all may have in mind for it.

I'll come up with drawings and drafts later. But for now, do tell me your thoughts.

This sounds like a really good idea! I have to say, you've covered all four tabs at the top of the NG page except for games, so can we add that in as well?

I read what you typed and I imagine a sort of event/fair/carnival/IDK for the entire day. This could mean 24 hours from midnight to midnight in Philadelphia (I think the Fulps are in Philly, right?), or it could mean midnight in the earliest time zone till midnight in the latest, making it 48 hours total, depending on preferences and logistics.

And then we'd have a sort of 'ng20th' tagged collection of games, movies, audio, and art that would be at this event and there could be things happening, like lotteries or something.

IDK about the other things but I realize that the game idea can be integrated a bit. In addition to being for fun/high scores/medals/IDK, what if there was a game that actually took info from players, like when tv shows tally up the votes on their website to choose which version of a season finale to air? Maybe that could determine what big-finishing movie to show at the end of it. (Oh yeah, with a movie of some sort at the end. could be animation, livestreamed speech, IDK)

Maybe teams by specialty (like "5 points to gryffindor") like, artists vs musicians vs blank slates vs programmers vs ??? could be racking up points during the event for...IDK, for fun. but yeah, how about that? ALL of that insanity, not just the last part?

This is my first attempt to win a thingy for money so id have to ask:

-how do you guys judge these things? My best guess was that it would be how well the entries integrated the theme but in this case that idea is shot.

-In what different ways can that money be paid? Sounds greedy but I'm asking because I'm curious about the system, and not because I'm expecting to win.

Oh yeah, and I'm excited and making a thingy too.

On the other hand I am in desperate need of a graphic designer/artist who can help me make the UI less terrible and make the few images I need.

Also you can pick up things and will be able to use them as weapons. Just thought I'd share that.

If you're interested in the game, you can find it at Here

If you're interested in becoming a tester, writer or artist, leave a reply. Thanks for your time

I personally am involved in stuff already but if you could somehow share with me the game file(s) I'd be happy (VERY happy) to do touch-ups on the grammar/spelling of the text. Even if it's later after you finish writing the game, I'd still be willing to do that for you.

Officially, no.
Whenever I try to do something that is a full-blown job for some people, I google it, watch behind-the-scenes from movie productions, and check out any tutorials I can find on it online. I am sorry to say that I have none to show you already, but I could draw up something for you on the spot in a set time period of your choice, if you'd like. Anywhere from minutes to days.

Hi, I'm not CS5 compatible, and I don't have a portfolio for anything because I'm not a professional at anything. That having been said, I'd be happy to

-storyboard (via screenshots of flash cs3, I suppose)
-background voice act (faar~ in the background. I sound pretty young, so if Patches is at school I could try to help there)
-make various sfx (I have a room full of technical junk that I think would be good for steampunk-ish sounds)
-give a second opinion (I always keep my criticism constructive)

and above all else, I can keep in touch and not randomly leave you hanging. Beyond that, I think this is a cool idea and I'm definitely interested in watching it even if I'm not a part of it.

1) I personally prefer Tumblr.

2) I'd hope for your main characters to include a boy and girl who aren't related but also aren't in a romance. That would definitely interest me, because I never get to see that.

3) I like clean comedy :D

Good luck with your story!

Why not try something like this;

1. Convert each part into a separate movieclip
2. Place the first part on the timeline (let's say the whole part is 398 frames long inside of the movie clip)
3. make the movieclip stay on the frame for 398 frames
4. Make a new empty frame after the 1st part ends (note, on the main timeline, not inside the MC)
5. just fill it black and add a StopAllSounds() code to it
6. new frame, put next part here (same technique as the 1st one)
7. repeat

That should most likely solve it.

I second that motion. I'd be willing to do the work myself, if-

From what I can see we have two options. These are as follows:

Option 1 - Reconstruct the main section with the animations in and keep the project entirely swf based
Option 2 - Embed the video within the project (an example of this in action can be seen here: link)

Option 1, and I volunteer to help reconstruct it if it gets converted to cs3/someone can let me use their computer.
I think vectors are awesome because they can look great at bigger sizes, and that they're worth keeping, as opposed to pixels. Plus navigation's high on my list when I browse other collabs.

Actually that's a really good idea.
Do you think we would still be able to use navigation buttons with that method?
Hmm.... Maybe if there's an action to skip to different parts of the video. It would take some heavy scripting, though.
