This caught my attention and I wanted to reply on it and share my findings.

I think you're right. I've noticed a 0 being voted on most of my songs (VG) around the exact same time, every day for the last few months. I know this because that song has been left alone for quite a while now but once every day exactly 1 vote added to it and the score steadily kept dropping. And sine the vote average is pretty high it has to be a 0 I think.

I don't want you guys to think I care all about score or anything that I decided to post...
I just browse these forums usually but this reminded me of something that caught my eye for a while now and wanted to add upon your suggestion.

I also dont think someone would actually go through that for so long.

Greets,

Continuing with the trend of hilarity, copy pasting didn't work as fully as I'd hoped.

I'd say the start is overall pretty good, you've got a solid rhythm here but it suddenly cuts off 'till 2:21. I'm not sure if I'm missing something or if the stuff prior to that is what you wanted it to be.

If so, a suggestion of mine would be to add to that soft choir you've got in the back with smooth/stretched strings. This song also suits for a Piano addition IMO, but I'm a piano freak so... I'm naturally inclined to say such things when I hear an oppertunity.

The rhytm itself is like I said, solid, but still plenty of room left for improvement or progression throughout the song as you add things (could be piano, soft strings or a different breakbeat).

Hope it helps!

Thanks Rucklo for pointing this topic out to me! I cannot believe I missed this. ;_;

Before I link you to the track, here's the basic premise behind it:

Inspired by: Megaman-esque tracks, and overall 8bit leads, and something a little different (for me) overall. There's a little nudge to something that really fit within the arrangement in the middle of the song, I'm sure certain ppl will appreciate that.

There hasn't been done much with mastering certain instruments, so don't look/listen to heavy for those things. I'm more looking for ideas and suggestions on the arrangement side.

First and foremost, I've looked around a bit for a similar topic like this but couldn't find any. In reaction to that, I went to the rules, and saw no mention of this not being allowed either. If by some reason I've completely overlooked something, feel free to whack me across the face with any heavy object and set me straight.

Now then,

I've been working on a new track for the last couple of weeks, but have hit a roadblock recently. I figured, where better to ask for some assistance than the forum itself, as some really creative people are on this site.

For all those taking a stab at helping, thanks a ton in advance. And again, if this ain't the place for it, let me know. I haven't seen any other place where you can ask advice from other artists, and I wouldn't exactly classify this as advertisement either.

Again, thanks in advance.

Reading some of this stuff actually really made me laugh.

I'd even start considering joining your IRC channel for kicks. Something I've never done before.
What can I say, I'm an MSN whore. :(

Simply stop caring for reviews that offer nothing constructive and are of no use to you or anyone. If they don't help, flag them as useless because they honestly are useless.

I doubt it's his review that made people low-vote your song. It's a daily occurance, after all. :P

As long as it sounds good, who the hell cares, honestly?

Kudos for the people who go the extra mile for authenticity, but that doesn't mean anyone who uses a real guitar should get roses, praises and young virgins thrown at them just for playing a real guitar and not using synths; songs can still suck when a real guitar is used, and songs can still be good when synths are being used.

What matters is that you know how to use the tools at your disposal effectively.

Topic: Vsti Help With Edirol Orchestra

Posted: 12/15/07 08:02 PM

Forum: Audio

Open the Fruity Wrapper the plugin is in (It's usually always called the same as the program name, in this case you'd see "Orchestral") and look at the top right corner where it says "PORT".

Change the port from --- to 0.
Then, Channels -> Add one -> MIDI out.

Put the MIDI port to 0 as well, and set the CHANNEL to whatever instrument you want to use from the Edirol plugin. 4 would be the bassoon when it boots, for example.

Make new MIDI channels as you go for the rest of the instruments.

I'm not quite sure how you let it save the settings. Hasn't been successful here yet. But it shouldn't be too difficult to switch it back after you reload the project.

PS: If you hear a MIDI piano when the instrument is playing, go to OPTIONS and uncheck the ENABLE MIDI OUTPUT from the list. That should fix it.

Motivation really helps when you're doing it for something. Often enough these days I can't make anything for myself or for fun anymore, at least not without 1200 retries.

It really has to be for something. In my case, seeing the end result with my music in it is a great motivation to become even better to help lift the project up even more.

Hope it helps.. if I put it in directly it won't show the code, it probably looks a little weird now. XD

Also, I hope posting here helps a bit. If nothing else, it'll make your 'stay' here a lot more enjoyable, I figure. :P

Personally I'd recommend FL Studio. Only because I love the piano roll so much. :P
But seriously, it's a great program that can do whatever you want. I'm basing that off of my experiences anyway, so far it's been able to do what I want with it.

The only drawback is (but I assume this goes for every composition program) is you'll have to find most of the good instruments yourself; in my case it was a bunch of VST's and soundfonts.

Anyway, it's a really to use program once you get the hang of it (shouldn't take long), and really rewarding in the end.

I've also tried Reason, but it confused the snot out of me. I can't work with it's sequencer, it feels really weird. But that's probably just me; as the stuff I've heard others make with it sometimes seriously blows me away, so I must be missing something. :)

So I recommend FL Studio and Reason, two programs that probably won't fail you!
Good luck.

I guess a little coverage couldn't hurt...
My audio page; with a new track submitted today.

Ofcourse, to be fair here, I'll review and vote back to everyone who does so for me. But please do it fairly, as I will do the same!
