Well, it might be a bit more important than people think. It not only helps a lot for understanding literature but also general things like critical thinking, reflection on meaning beyond superficial levels and so on.
BUT: ! : I do agree on that some take it too far, not every word in a novel is necessarily a metaphor for humankind and its struggle for knowledge.

Setting aside everything like style, prejudices and the like I think he's not too bad. I don't listen to his music but what I've heard is not too bad I suppose!
Too often people listen to certain music for the wrong reasons. Reasons like how original it is or because their friends listen to it. You should just listen to what you think sounds good, it doesn't have to be more complicated than that.
To me, hate is essentially a true form of a deeply malevolent attitude towards something. I don't think something or someone deserves that kind of malevolence from you unless you have extremely good reasons!
There are things I really dislike and people I can barely stand but there is no one I hate.
What's so great about Stephen Colbert? He has some good guests but he's not too amusing if you ask me. I haven't seen the show much though so I'm not the right person to judge either.
