Response to: They deserved to get looted in Iraq Posted April 21st, 2003 in Politics

the looting of Baghdad is demonstrative of the backwardness of the Iraqi people, they are returning to the nomadic barbarianism that once ruled for countless centuries. No big deal though, the authority has much bigger clubs to pound the heads of ignorance(should be a quote for the council or crew or some club).

Yes. A High-tech Middle east would not only compete with europe but with the US as well.

I was only talking about Europe's new threat or sleeping threat in the Middle East. At least the US has some friendly competition in the not so distant future.

Response to: Whats going to happen to Iraq now? Posted April 20th, 2003 in Politics

You know why Europe's been shittin itself over this war...one would guess terrorism, but i was drawn to a different hypothesis:

if the united states helps the Middle East evolve to a level where it can compete industrially with the world, who loses the most out of it: Europe! With the united states demolishing medieval economies and rebuffing them with cash and technology, the European nations will be at a distinct disadvantage. Oil + Technology+young workforce-mullahs=a limitless potential of trading power. Am i off?

when Nixon met in china, he played one communist force against another which severely weakened the USSR's relationship with its strongest ally. He also visited the USSR and received that classic "bearhug" from Brezhnev symblozing the imminent detente that was shaping. The economy was already slipping for Russia post-Khrushchev, but Nixon's ties with the East helped paved the way for the end of Cold War. It didn't stop it as you said, but it led to it, and he influenced it more than any other president

Response to: Worst Presidents Posted April 20th, 2003 in Politics

Hoover nearly wrecked the country, rugged individualism was the opposite of what the country needed after facing its first depression

Both Bushs have bad timing because the economy happened to suck during their term. Had Bush Sr. been reelected...well things could've been very different for PR

and all you Nixon bashers are mistaken because he sped the process of ending the cold war through his outstanding foreign policy.

Response to: POLITICS PUTTIN' YOU DOWN?! Posted April 20th, 2003 in Politics

number one, the responsible debaters attack arguments and not people. Number two, get ready to be yelled at if what you said is contested. Don't take it personally, just defend your argument or admit your misconception. Being gracious in defeat is usually easily forgiven because no one in this forum knows everything. This is a fun forum...don't take it too seriously.

You can't seriously be condoning the idea that territory can be lost and gained through wars are you? That's just imperialism.

lol i'll respond to the quote that was mine. Well you tell me the fairness...multiple nations consisting of 100 million Muslims attack a small nation the size of NJ with 8 million Jews and Muslims and lose on multiple fronts. Israel counter-agresses due to the war and gains territory as a result. Does Israel have to give the land back even though they won in defense?
Well to some it is quasi-imperialism because it's taking land away in war. However, the Israelis justify it by saying it used to be their territory.
I'd be happy to compromise with you and say that Israel should return to the 1967 boundaries. That received UN approval.

unfortunately your argument is flawed...freon will not rise in the atmosphere, because it is many times heavier than air. Instead, it will hover near the ground, where it is absorbed and transformed by soil bacteria into entirely harmless biomass within one or two weeks.

it all starts in the sewer, since most of this country uses toilets.

what if someone in every major city through something communicable and deadly in a toilet(biological disease, dangerous carcinogenic chemical, or a really smelly crap)

the substance would travel through the sewer system into a lake or an ocean where wildlife are abundant. Here's a food chain

substance->microscopic organisms->vermin->birds->your backyard

Oh shit!

I know the Palestinians will never drop it. It is their forefathers land and they have every right to it.

Had there not been any wars or violence your argument would be just. I am opposed to the radical Jewish settlers squatting on the West Bank, i have serious issues with that unfairness. However, just because the land used to be one's forefathers does not give a magical timeless deed to the property. The land was lost in a war, and those that wish to complain about precedents should blame their governments and armies for losing that land through their aggression.
The State of Israel has expanded and contracted over time. Its territory was fairly expansive after the Yom Kippur War(which was the equivalent of multiple Western countries attacking a small Muslim nation during their Holy Month of Ramadan). So how could any Arab argue that his or her land was rightly theirs when they no longer have control of it(or even a remnant of a deed)?

there are plenty of other ways to destroy international cities, urs is in the litter box...

instead of nuking a city that you'd probably want to take advantage of, cripple it electronically. Imagine if all the power went out in London, or in Paris. Now imagine NYC with absolutely no power.
