Hello Mogly, the tournament begins on April 1st. You can view all the information you need here: http://nata.munchymedia.com/

We're going through a lot of debate about division right now in the NATA Skype chat, but it will likely be something like 20 / 30 / 250 / 1000.
The total raised was $1,759, and after IndieGoGo fees (158), PayPal fees (52), Credit Card fees (??), Munchy Media fee (170), payment for Trophy (595), Music Contest prizes (200), and the production and shipping of all donation perks (685), the rest will probably come out to about $380. Add Tom's $2,000 donation, and we have a pool of $2,380 for the contest! Final numbers will be announced when the contest begins.
This year's judges are Tom Fulp, Emrox, NitWitt, test-object, and Usagineko.
After a couple last day donations, we're up to $1,759!!!
1 hour remains. It's a shame, we were so close!

It's in the first post.
Deadline: March 29th
You're awfully cynical about all this, aren't you...?
Calling the smaller prizes "handouts" is just ridiculous, so stop.
As for the NG store, I'd have to ask Tom about that. Honestly, $5 in store credit is exactly the same as $5 in cash, but you're being forced where to spend it -- it makes literally no difference in terms of how the prizes are divided, so the point seems moot to me. Also I find it weird that you only find value in a trophy if you can use on your girlfriend...?
We need to hear more people's opinions in here. The date is coming close, and I'd like to settle with what most people think is right. I won't do any less than $10 for the open round -- $5 is somewhat of a joke.

I AM doing it like last year... Those values are the calculated final values. It says so directly above the table :P

This is incorrect. The table I posted is the final stacked values of prizes. The Champion would receive $450 TOTAL.

I can't control what Adobe donates.
What does everyone else think of this proposal?

Guys, please read the rules before submitting.

It's a 1-year membership. At first they weren't going to donate at all this year, but I convinced them to at least do that much for us.
The trophy doesn't make *too* big of an impact on prize money at this point, really the question would be how to distribute it across entrants. The final prize for the Champion is smaller because a lot of money is going to those who get through the other rounds -- this provides more global incentive. If you don't get through the whole thing, you still get SOMETHING for what you did do.
What do people think? Should we make the Champion and Runner-up get all the prize money? Should the lesser brackets still get a prize, but less so?

, and thats why you did not accepted it?
Yes, it's listed in the rules.

oke, here is mine!

Your entry was made prior to the start of this contest, and cannot be accepted.

:When will that be? ^_^ I'd like to know.
It will be for the Pro round, so June 10th at the latest.
I want to contact the entrants of this music contest privately to let them know the results sooner, but this leaves the possibility that someone may leak something to a NATA entrant. Hmmm...
At 3/21/13 03:19 PM, SkyeWintrest wrote: Am I right in guessing that the winning tracks will be part of a limitation in the animation part of the contest? (like - you must use this audio track in the animation or something)
Correct! Though I will not reveal the winners of this contest until that round begins, as people could cheat by trying to start early if they knew which songs were going to be required...!

If these are used in animations, people might need these to span over a longer period of time I would imagine. I just might submit to this though! :DI would love to know about this too. I'd rather know whether they should loop or not before submitting (though I already have one that I think I should).
Either is fine, as it will be up to the entrants on how to use these in their animations. They may decide to insert additional music tracks, use multiple tracks from this contest, cut one short, or even mix them together. A loop, I think, would be a great idea so long as it isn't super short like 5 seconds.
Whether or not your music loops will not effect your chances at winning; these are judged purely on how well they convey a mood or feel.
Don't forget the NATA trophy, too! We've decided to go ahead with it, even though we didn't reach that stretch. It'll be made of crystal!
The campaign is flexible funding, so even if we don't reach the 2k goal, we'll still get the donations for prizes. It's just a higher fee if we don't.
Alright, we're going for the trophy!
At 3/19/13 08:16 PM, Buoy wrote: How many submissions can I have?
You can submit any number of entries, but keep in mind that spending all your time on one high quality entry is more likely to win than making four lower-quality ones!
And yes, it is possible for one person to win all four slots. Be wise!
Alright folks, we're starting up a small contest as a lead up to this year's Tournament of Animation.
We are looking for short musical pieces that create a specific mood. It can be happy, sad, horrifying, or any other emotional feeling.
Deadline: March 29th
Length: 30 seconds - 2 minutes.
Restrictions: No vocals, no M-rated content. Otherwise, it's free game!
* Submit by linking to your audio portal page in this thread.
* Submissions dated before March 19th will not be accepted.
There will be 4 winners, receiving $50 each and having their music used as part of this year's Tournament - great exposure!

Good luck!

(These numbers are the TOTAL that someone gets when they get that far. Example: Novice=25+75)
Crap, the image had transparency. Fixed:
We're less than a week away from the end of fundraising, and we've raised an astonishing $1,400! If we reach 2,000 in the week, that would be amazing, but I am certainly not expecting to at this point.
That said, I have a question for you all- Would you like to go ahead and do the trophy anyway? It's total cost will be around $550, custom-made out of crystal. NewGrounds will be donating $2,000 on top of everything else, so division might look like this:
$1400 - 22% (Paypal, IndieGoGo, and contest fees) = ~$1100
Shirts, Calendars and Posters will cost roughly $400 to create and ship to everyone, so that brings us to about $700.
Add in our NewGrounds sponsorship and our prize total comes out to around $2700. Not too shabby!
I plan to give out around $200 for pre-contest prizes, as was mentioned as a plan in the fundraising video. Those will be starting pretty soon, here. So that brings us to a solid $2500.
If we subtract $550 for the trophy, that brings the prize money to about $1950. I'm not sure if there will be additional shipping and fees attached to it, so let's round down to $1900 for simplicity's sake. (Don't worry-- I'll keep you all posted on the final numbers as they become known!)
So with the trophy, it could be divided like so:
- Open Winners (32): $25
- Novice Winners (8): +$75
- Pro Winners (2): +$150
- Champion (1): +$200 + Adobe Cloud + Trophy
Without the trophy, we can divide it like so:
- Open Winners (32): $40
- Novice Winners (8): +$80
- Pro Winners (2): +$150
- Champion (1): +$280 + Adobe Cloud
So, Trophy or no?

Remember that indiegogo takes out a larger fee if the goal isn't met!
Exactly! I've done all I can to spread the word -- now it's up to you guys :)

We're at $1303 with 18 days to go!
I've been in talks with Bennett Awards to create a trophy -- Here are their initial ideas for the award, should we reach our 3k goal. It would most likely be made of Crystal, and the winner would receive it a few weeks following the contest.
Spread the word, so we can make this happen!
Back on topic:
What animators would you guys like to see go at it this year?
I see nothing wrong with him adding it to his portfolio though, but to say he gets nothing is an ignorant statement.
The day that I get a job from this being on my portfolio, I will let you know, haha.
