It's too late to implement this now, but it's entirely possible for next year's tournament.

Thor, Clod of Blunders occasionally drops by to offer helpful feedback and critiques for NATA contestants. In fact, we consider him the official NATA Critic.

He has written up this article, "Knowing Your ABCs" especially for NATA contestants who made it in!

Oh yes, there will be full detailed scoring for every round here-on-out. For an example, look here at the bottom of the page here: http://www.munchymedia.com/Contests/TOFA11/round2.html

Based on the point system listed in the winner's listing here:

The judges selected their top 16 entries in order from best to worst, and entries were scored on an inverted point system based on placement in a judge's list. A few judges entered 18, and so the base number of 18 was used for scoring. For example, an entry in the #1 spot of a list received 18 points, while #2 is 17 points, #3 is 16, and so on until #18 is 1 point. Points were accumulated from all judges and sorted to create the list above, which is ordered from most points received to least.

I suppose this would be a good opportunity to point out that I had an interview about NATA recently: http://theinterviewer.newgrounds.com/news/post/714358 - for all your burning questions :)

In this case, I literally decided on the theme about a half hour before the Novice Round was posted. I'm usually a lot better about that.

Dammit probably.

Yeah I wasn't going to point it out, but yeah. Well technically it's the second round of the contest, but first round of the bracketed tournament segment, while technically named the Novice Round.

So any name works. Best of luck to all who made it in!

Precisely. At first I was setting it up as #1 vs #32, #2 vs #31, but that would have been ridiculously unbalanced.

New thread up in 30 minutes or less.

yes please.
Also would you be able to tell me how far my brother (monkeyman12344) was from qualifying?

As previously stated, each judge picked only their top 16 (or 18) favorites to decide qualifiers. The only two entrants that were listed but didn't make the top 32 were Krus Justice and TribeCollective. It's impossible to say "how close" any other entrants were to making it, since the cutoff was 16-18 entries for judges to select.

Judging for the following rounds will be strictly score based, and it will be much easier to deduce who stands where.

Because of the high volume of entries in the open round, no. Judges are encouraged to write comments for the next few rounds, and really pushed to do so for the final couple rounds.

People assume that Animation is a strict progression of shape to tween, but actually from a nonlinear non-subjective
viewpoint it's more like a big ball of... arts-y wartsy, move-y wove-y... stuff.

The Novice Round is supposed to begin in 6 hours, but I'm thinking of starting it early, in about an hour or two. What do you all think?

No, actually this in an alternate timeline. In the far off space year of 1999 from which you're actually from, you didn't get through. In fact, you got like... all 0s in every criteria.

In other news, I misspelled JerrodStorm as JarrodStorm. NG BBS doesn't allow post editing, so this is the correction. It's JerrodStorm.
