Anyone saw the new versions of Xiaoxiao? Anyone? They're improved, and many bugs are fixed. the fans of XiaoXiao should really go and see them, if they didn't see them yet.

Yeah, I like the NG tank much better than the clown on the top-left logo. Yeah, it's great that they put the official NewGrounds tank back on the logo.

Yeah... you can also learn how to make good flash by looking at other good movies and games - that can be good help. You shouldn't rush with making your first movie if you don't know how, if you don't want it blammed. Take time to think.

Response to: Who wants Ganguro DELUX? Posted January 3rd, 2003 in General

Isn't the DELUX version of Ganguro Girl already available on their site? I think it is - and they charge you cash for it, so that really sux - Ganguro Girl was a really good game.

Response to: PICO 2 ? Posted January 3rd, 2003 in General

Yeah, Tom Fulp is really taking a long time with PICO 2. DOMO KUN'S ANGRY SMASHFEST kinda got in his way - it was worth it, but a lot of people, including me, are still waiting for PICO 2 - Tom better hurry up.

Response to: PICO 2 ? Posted January 3rd, 2003 in General

What is this topic about...? Hurrying Tom to finish up Pico 2? The approximate release date of Pico 2?

To change the transparency, go to a symbol's effect window, go to the ALPHA or ADVANCED tab, and change the alpha percentage.

To make it fade or appear smoothly in a movie, make a motion tween, and set the first keyframe in the tween to have the effect and position you want to start with, and the last keyframe in the tween to have the effect/position you want the starting object to change to. The two objects have to be the same symbol.

Yeah, like hugh_jarse said, you have to view and rate 5 different movies, and on the 5th movie, click the link to deposit your expreience you must be logged in to do that. You may only do that once a day. Another way to get exp. points is by refering good flash artists to submit work to NewGrounds.com - if their movie has a good score, then you get bonus exp. points.

Reviewing movies, posting notes on the BBS, and blamming/protecting movies will NOT give you exp. points, and can only change different stats on your profile. Clicking the link to deposit your points and refering flash artists to submit work are the only two ways to get exp. points.

Response to: movie Posted December 29th, 2002 in Game Development

Great! Hope it's a good movie. Hmmm... I'm not really into lord of the rings, but then I'm sure other people are, however, the popularity and score of the movie should depend on the graphics and sounds in it - how it looks like, and not the topic. Work on the movie really hard, spend a lot of time on it, use amazing flash effects and your own flash talent to put out amazing results, and you have a good movie.

Please E-mail me back if you are interested.

My E-mail:karate_kid_ayah@hotmail.com Thanks

You don't have to ask anyone to submit your work to NewGrounds.com. Make sure your flash file is in .swf exported flash format, and go to the submit page of the portal to submit it. It is instantly posted in the 50 most recent portal entries, and users vote on your work. After 100 votes, if it passes, then it stays on NewGrounds, but if it doesn't, then it is deleted, so make sure that it is top quality. You may only submit two flash files per day.

Response to: Buttons On MX Posted December 24th, 2002 in Game Development

Make the frame stop by right-clicking the frame and going to actions, then entering "stop". Then, make a button by going to insert/new symbol or selecting something in the movie that you want to become your button and going to insert/convert to symbol. After that, go to your scene, right-click the button, and go to actions. Set the button's actions to "play", to play and continue on to the next frame, or set it to "gotoandplay", to make it play starting on whatever frame you want. This is very simple actionscript - it should be pretty easy to understand. When I was a flash n00b, I taught myself that. Good luck on your flash.

Response to: "Replay" Button? Posted December 24th, 2002 in Game Development

Just create a new button (by insert/new symbol/button or selecting something you want to turn into a button and going to insert/convert to symbol). Right click the button after it's created and you are back in the scene, and go to actions. Enter "gotoandstop" to make the movie go somewhere and stop, or "gotoandplay" to make the movie go somewhere and play, in your actions window for the button, and set the frame value of the action to the frame number you want the button to lead to and replay from. Make sure the actions of the frame (go to the actions button in the frame by right clicking it) say "stop", or the movie may continue running when the button appears, making the button quickly disappear during your movie. It's very easy.

Response to: Preloader Posted December 24th, 2002 in Game Development

BTW, go to http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic.php?id=37751 to get great tips on actionscripts - the actionscript thread is very long in that forum topic - it can be very helpful for you to learn from it.

Response to: Preloader Posted December 24th, 2002 in Game Development

To make a simple flash preloader, make frames go in a continuous cycle or stop using frame actionscript, and make an action in the cycle or in the stopped frame - that states "ifframeisloaded", and in the value of the action, set the frame number to the last frame in your movie (it's best to do that when you're done your whole movie). Then, in the "ifframeisloaded command, enter the action you want to happen after your movie is loaded - an action like "play", "gotoandplay" or "gotoandstop" - once you get the hang of this, it should be a piece of cake. Good luck.

You can also download preloaders from the Internet - just search for them - there's even some on NewGrounds.

Response to: Buying Mx Flash Posted December 24th, 2002 in Game Development

Yeah, you can either download it from kazza by searching for "flash", burning your friends' FLASH cds, using crack patches you can find on the Internet to extend free Flash trials, and use many other ways to get Flash without having to buy it and saving all the money. Most of the customers for Flash are only companies.

Response to: Spliting the portal Posted December 24th, 2002 in General

What is sometimes annoying is when people submit movies or games, but select the wrong choices, so their movies appear as games - this happend before, didn't it? Yeah, and only when an admin is informed, this can be fixed.

Response to: Spliting the portal Posted December 23rd, 2002 in General

Yeah, E-mail them about it. It's pretty inconvenient for many users to have to go into an entry to read if the link says "play this game!" or "watch this movie!".

Great ideas from nbh b_repay. Yeah, this is a good idea to separate movies and games, so users do not get confused and have to enter an entry to find out if it's either a game or a movie. Another idea, if possible, is that color codes for the links are used on portal entries, to separate games from movies.

Wade, Tom Fulp, or any other webmaster for N.G. should really get into this topic.

One thing about Eddie though, on level 1 the balloon fight guy will drop Eddie's at random when you whack other items (yield signs, traffic cones, mailboxes, etc.) at the Power Puff Girls. If you knock Eddie off the screen he WON'T help you on level two. But if you leave him alone, once you're done with level 1, he'll fly up with you and help block their shots for a little while. And yes, you can have more than one Eddie helping you.

Thanks again for all the comments on the game so far, I'm really glad you guys are all enjoying it so much. Makes all the work we put into it worth it!

O yeah, BTW, tnx for the tip on Eddie. Now I can finally use him to save on health. Here's a few more unmentioned notes on the game:
-You'll know that you have Eddie as an ally when he takes off the screen in the end of the whack-a-mole level, and joins you when the other guy gets shot down and the level begins.
-Eddie does explode after a while of shielding - he is not invincible. He also moves slower than you, making himself, and you, while moving, more vulnerable.
-Eddie only blocks optic shots from the powerpuffs - not from the green worm nor from the penguins.

Again, thanks for the game, Mockery and TomFulp, it's really great, and if there was a 6-point button for the votes, I would've used it. I gave a 10 overall in the reviews too. Keep up the good game-making work.

Wow... Great Job for you and Tom Fulp - it was a great success. Your game rules, and it's one of the best games to EVER BE SUBMITTED ON NEWGROUNDS. And your site is pretty cool too. People give hands to THE MAKER (one of the makers) of the game! :D

Response to: get more exp. points:// Posted December 20th, 2002 in Where is / How to?

Yeah, the best way to get experience points is to vote daily - it's way easier than the alternative way, too. I do that daily (I started last month only), and I never used the other way. However, if people are that serious about getting experience points, 10 points a day may not be enough, so they could refer. I recommend the fastest, easiest, best, and the only way I've used so far to get my points - to vote daily, first, and then worry about the other way.

Response to: DOMO-KUN ANGRY SMASHFEST: Secrets Posted December 19th, 2002 in General

O yeah, and you can keep the fire-breathing dragon from the Golden Axe stage for the final one - if you stay on it after you beat those guards, you can stay with it for the next stage. It might come in handy, if it is used properly, but you lose if after a long wait, a death, or a game-over (which is also a death).

So if you remember to keep it, you can defeat the red guards at the end of the Golden Axe stage, and it might also come in handy in the final stage.

BTW, EDDIE, the flip-top character blocks optic lazer shots from you. I'm not sure about him shooting homing missiles.

I think you can refer good flash authors to submit their movies to NewGrounds.com for extra experience points. Find good flash authors on the net that didn't submit their flash to NewGrounds yet, and if they put your name as the referring box on the page for submitting flash, and if their movie gets a good score, you'll get these experience points (I think).
