Response to: Protection Points... Posted December 11th, 2002 in General

Good job - everyone can use a couple of protection points - it kind of balances your blam and protection points more - cuz most movies that are submitted to NewGrounds are crap, and to be blammed, so most people get those points and do not get many protection points from the rare quality submittions here. The protection of some of these movies has been successful - I've seen many of the movies' ids here protected already. It sux to have a good movie that passes through the 50 most recent in the portal without getting protected or blamed, just to stay as "under judgement" - that does not happen to most movies, but some movies are left out like that, and they should get more votes like this. I say NewGrounds should pass all under judgement movies should pass through the portal again, for users to clean up the crap and save the quality entries.

Response to: People on NG Disgust me.. Posted December 11th, 2002 in General

O yeah, btw, 3.60 is a pretty good score. Any flash movie above 3.50, i think, or some score around there, should get an EXCELLENT SCORE on the NewGrounds Portal (its title should be highlighted in blue) - it's already considered to be an excellent score here, due to the low standards, because many movies get crappy scores that are betwen 3 and 4.

Response to: my exp. points arint going up Posted December 11th, 2002 in Where is / How to?

Yeah, that sux. You should E-mail them. Does NewGrounds use cookies (I think it does), and does your browser support them? You should try adjusting your settings and stuff. BTW, voting, is not the only way you can get experience points. Find good flash files online, and if they're not already on NewGrounds, tell the author and he or she would submit it to NewGrounds. Make sure that he or she knows to type in your account id to give you the points! If the movie gets a good score, you should receive the points.

Response to: People on NG Disgust me.. Posted December 11th, 2002 in General

Yeah, I hate that when that happens, but since everyone gets a low score (the highest - scoring movie was super console wars 2, at 4.50 or some score around that) you get a good reputation if you just get something that's above 3.50. It's all the ignorant users' fault, and those users with dark voting personalities (when their profile's pic is colored red - u prob know that) that get your score down cuz they have high expectations, to try to get a blam point or just for the fun of ruining the reputation of a good movie. That just sucks, but if you have a good movie, most of the users should notice - that's what separating a 3.60 from a 2.20, and will vote high for you. We're just lucky to have them around now.

And another thing - NewGrounds gets so much shit-on-flash nowadays, that almost every movie submitted is a blammed garbage. Some people just submit garbage every day, and they give the portal a bad reputation, so people get too used to blamming, and do not try to save recent portal movies at all.

Response to: OK OK OK! Posted December 11th, 2002 in Where is / How to?

Yeah, to make a simple one, it's easy - you just use the ifframeloaded command - set the movie to go in a continuous cycle, or make it stop, make the action inside the ifframeloaded go somewhere, and set the value of ifframeloaded to a target frame to be loaded - it could be your last frame, or a frame in the middle of your flash movie, if you have multiple loaders for a big file.

Response to: Portal preferences Posted December 11th, 2002 in NG News

Yeah, it's kinda useful. Almost every time the server is upgraded and the user is given more options, it's better. Yeah, it is kinda helpful since it speeds up your flash viewing, and you can see the movie faster, without manually clicking on the link, yo you can vote faster for points after you view the movie, before it gets blammed or protected. Yeah, it saves us time, and this was a good idea.

Response to: picture size Posted December 11th, 2002 in Where is / How to?

At 12/10/02 11:02 PM, MR_OBIE_TRICE wrote: How do you reduce the size of a picture so u can post it on the BBS? I'm using windows xp my pictures im confused!!

Reducing File Size
Use a painting or picture program (e.g. ms paint or photoshop, paint comes with xp) to convert the picture from .bmp to .jpeg, .jpg, or .gif.

Reducing Picture's Size When Viewed
Use a picture editing program to select and shrink it. MS Paint can be used, but it's not so good in doing that, and may screw up your picture. I suggest you do that with a professional drawing program, if you can find one, like photoshop, etc.

Hope this helps, and if it didn't, then I'm sorry, I tried. :)

Yeah... I agree. I hate those animations, but still, for each piece of shit someone puts out onto the portal, the voting users get a BLAM point! :D

I'm putting so much time into my movies, and even the preview of my movie, which is only 20 percent of the actual movie, got a score of 3.20 for it (to view it to here). By the way, I didn't even submit it. My friend did, WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. At least it wasn't stealing, because he gave me some credit for it.

At 12/9/02 04:17 AM, jio wrote: now when i shoot i want to have a sound.how do i attach a sound to that script? So what i basicly want is when i click i want to hear a 'bang' sound.

O yeah! On the FRAMES INSIDE THE BUTTONS YOU HAVE, YOU CAN ALSO ADD THE SOUNDS. Double-click the buttons, and either import the sound to the DOWN or HIT frame inside the buttons.

Just in case you didn't get your sounds already, you can get some easily by going through computer game files and importing the shooting sounds - a good computer game to import from is Half-Life:Counter-Strike.

Response to: Blammers suck! Posted December 9th, 2002 in Game Development

Blam usually leaves only the top movies in Newgrounds - it's good for the site so the server does not overload from holding so many flash movies that are crappy. I agree that blamming good movies is stupid, but blamming, overall, helps Newgrounds. Many of the movies submitted every day ARE CRAP, and deserve to be blammed, because not enough time and effort was put into it.

Response to: shooting sound Posted December 9th, 2002 in Game Development

No, you do not attach it to the script. Go to File/Open As library, set "All Files" in the File Type drop-down menu, select your sound file, and open it. In the window that should've appeared, the sound file should be displayed, and you can drag it from there to your library window, and from the library to any frame. This is only one of the ways of importing sound. Does this answer your question, or did you ask for something else?

Response to: does it have 2 b macromedia flash? Posted December 8th, 2002 in Game Development

Yeah, it does have to be Macromedia Flash, and other ways of not buying it and still getting the program (other than using cracks) is by burning it from a friend that has a copy, or downloading it off the net or other people, for example, from Kazza Media player. There are some packages on Kazza that also give you a serial code, so you do not have to go find one or a generator for it.

I mean, it's the fucking NHL, their budget CAN'T be so low that they can't hire someone to come up with a few little animations. Fucking Christ!

LOL... what do you expect... it's the TEMPA BAY LIGHTNINGS... They suck - one of the worst teams on the NHL - that's why they get a low budget. LoL that's why they're so cheap.

Response to: A non-friendly message to Reviewers Posted December 8th, 2002 in General

Yeah, there are some dumbasses on NewGrounds that just try to write a review for their profile stats, and write trashy shit on the review that doesn't even make sense. This just stinks. Shitty movies do deserve crappy reviews, but you know, if you write a review for a good movie that boos it down WITHOUT CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, unreasonably (not because you think the movie sux), that's just bullshit. Some people give cruddy reviews and probably havn't even viewed the damn movie!

Response to: Blams // Protection Points Posted December 8th, 2002 in Where is / How to?

_lightning_ is right. And, if you have 100 blam/protection points, you get promoted to a member of the NewGrounds Safety Patrol, and after 200 blam/protection points, you get promoted to Security Guard.

Response to: I Have The Lowest Grade On Newgroun Posted December 8th, 2002 in General

I donno y ppl vote low on clock movies - they're not all that bad - only some shitty ones ruin it for the rest of the movies. It's the discrimination of clock movies... LOL jk! O yeah, Banana_Clock only had one bad award (Sophisticated Clocks - Turd of the Week), but many other awards were good, so this is not a bad flash artist... just... I donno... some users just hate clock movies, and vote for the blam point instead of even looking at the movies to see if they're good or not. Some of them do that to other movies too. That kinda sux for the artist, cuz the artist could actually be pretty good, but can still end up with a bad reputation on Newgrounds.

Response to: I Have The Lowest Grade On Newgroun Posted December 8th, 2002 in General

O yeah... LOL actually... the grade's still kinda weird, but it's not so surprising, after I looked at your profile carefully and found out that one of your awards was NOT a good one (for the entry "Sophisticated Clocks")... LOL - it was TURD OF THE WEEK, the award of shame that noone should be aiming to get unless if they're just trying to joke around.

Response to: WTF: PORTAL Posted December 8th, 2002 in General

liljim has spoken.
I think this topic is kinda CLOSED now... one of the managers of Newgrounds (liljim) just came in here and said he fixed it... so... ah well... I didn't know the managers actually go through the BBS hunting for suggestions and fixing stuff cuz I rarely see replies by them in the ALL ACCESS BBS... Well now I know. l8r.

Response to: I Have The Lowest Grade On Newgroun Posted December 8th, 2002 in General

WTF? LOL that is kinda weird, and yeah that sux cuz from now on n00b users will vote bad on your movies cuz of ur grade, even if your movies are good. That really sux, and it's kinda weird, cuz some of the movies u made won awards before. How did ur grade screw up?

Response to: Official ProtectionTopic Posted December 8th, 2002 in General

Protecting is good, and I could use some protection points to my profile stats, but I think blamming is just as important. If we, the users, are not gonna clean crap off Newgrounds that does not deserve to stay, who else will do it? Tom Fulp can't do it all by himself, and there's no such things as machines that can rate flash videos. I like protecting as much as blamming though, because some of the movies here are really good and deserve to be protected. The only reason I have way more blam points than protection points, is because I don't get the points for most of the movies I try to protect - they get blammed. Yeah, I DO try protect a lot of movies, maybe even more than I try to blam movies. I try to do equal of both and balance my blam/protection points, but it just isn't working.

and hwere do you get low file size music
thanks!

Use the simple voice recorder and make it record the sounds coming from your mic. If you want to compress the music or sounds, I think maybe you can go to the sound's properties and compression, and then select one of the options in the menu.

Response to: sounds! Posted December 7th, 2002 in Game Development

O yeah, one of the ways to import a sound into a movie by going to file/open as library, select "all files" from the "file type" drop-down menu, and select your sound file. Then, drag the sound from the window that pops up to your library, and then drag the sound from the library to whatever frame you want the sound to stay on. If you want the sound to repeat, go to the sound panel of the frame, and adjust the value for loops.

Response to: Points Posted December 7th, 2002 in General

Just vote A LOT for movies that are "under judgement", and if you vote correctly (if a movie you give a good vote for gets PROTECTED or a movie you give a bad vote for gets BLAMMED), you will get a blam or protection point. You may know this already. If you want A LOT of points, just stay on Newgrounds all day, keep on refreshing the portal and voting on new entries, and searching for under judgement entries in the portal search tool. do this every day, often, for long periods of time, and you get a lot of the points. Hope this helps you.

Response to: Passwords for Ganguro Girl Posted December 7th, 2002 in Where is / How to?

O yeah, the passwords I just posted reveal 3 endings. Input them in the beginning of the game, by clicking the button that says "password" (no-brainer). by "all positions" I mean all three positions that are known to me. Are there passwords for a fourth position, more positions, or passwords that work and let you do different stuff in the game? I don't think so, but there may still be more passwords. :D

Response to: Passwords for Ganguro Girl Posted December 7th, 2002 in Where is / How to?

I got passwords! My friend found the last one. Enter these!
If you want to just put these passwords in and screw the game, go ahead, but I say that the game is worth it - you should really finish it, it's fun.

Notice: the O's are letters, not zero's. l is not a 1, but a lower-case L.

single position password: vkz2OBu
2-position password: tYU2TEb
all positions password: t9GJ6Ol

Response to: is there any other way to score exp Posted December 7th, 2002 in Where is / How to?

Another way other than depositing voting points every day is to refer a good Flash animator to NewGrounds, like someone before had just said. He or she has to be good - to submit good movies to this site. O yeah... ALT+F4 for experience points... lol... Of course it closes your screen... duh. Who was dumb enough to fall for that?

Response to: Official ProtectionTopic Posted December 7th, 2002 in General

Yeah, this is a good way of giving out protection and blam points, and to let users vote on entries that passed the portal, but don't have enough votes yet to either be blammed or protected. Lots of movies get stuck on Newgrounds, lacking enough votes to be judged to be blammed or saved, and the crappy ones are taking up newgrounds' space, while the good ones do not get enough credit.

I have a movie too (sent by my friend, without permission - not stolen though, because he gave me credit in the movie), but it's already protected. If you want to see it, go to http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view.php?id=69568. Good reviews and votes are appreciated. Thank you.

Response to: Review system changes Posted December 7th, 2002 in General

Yeah, I hate it when users do that - when the latest review is excellent, they tend to vote high, even if it's a crappy movie, and if the review is shitty, they vote bad. This just sux - that's how shit gets good ratings, and how good stuff gets low ratings. Plus, users should only be allowed to vote or review an entry after they've finished watching the movies or playing the games, or at least got a glance of it.

Response to: Giv me tips on not getting blammed Posted December 7th, 2002 in Game Development

Man, if your movies keep on getting blammed, you should really work HARD on them! I spent weeks working on my movie ("counter force" - click here to view it) my friend sent the preview (I taught him flash, and sent him my .fla file to show him how I did my flash - I didn't know he would try to send it there. No, it's not exactly stealing cuz he gave me credit for it, but I didn't want him to send the preview to Newgrounds. That video got a 3.18 - and it's just the preview - 20% of the full movie) - and am still working on it. I took so long to try to make it good, and I really get pissed when users stuff the portal up by sending 5 minute crap just to try to get credit for it, and especially when these crappy shit-movies don't get blammed.
