Alestorm is the fucking bomb! I think I'm going to draw pirates for the rest of the evening.
Mister pirate sir is not happy detail.
Moar Alestorm-inspired drawings.
Listening to Alestorm is good pirate drawing practice. Pages out of my sketchbook.
Man, I want my own pirate.

Last AVAT submission, "dreams". Why does it seem that my computer always has some kind of bug when I wanted to work on an avat round.
Out of principle, or something, I wanted absolutely no sleeping people in my drawing of dreams. This thing is just pure spontaneous stream-of-thought, so in that way it's kind of dream-like.
Actually I'm glad the contest's over. This many rounds over such a long period of time gets very hard to work on after a while. But of course it was fun.
Um, yeah. The thing you posted is indeed right, when it comes to being a working professional artist. Making a thread on newgrounds asking for something to be drawn is not the same as making a call to a professional graphic artist expecting him to do it for free.
If you're 16 years old, you haven't done anything professional, you're just an amateur and someone asks you to draw a cover for their rockband, it's a good opportunity, payment or not. It's a way of getting your name out, getting practice, learning how to deal with dificulties while working with someone. You could see it as tiny internships.
Of course there is a difference when the client expects you to do almost all of the work for a (semi-)professional company with none of the credit or benefits, while they would benefit greatly. That's something completely different. But if it's a little deal between two amateurs, I see absolutely no harm in it, and indeed it just comes down to what the artist is willing to do.
Well what the hell did I make now.
Anyway, here it is. Very tired, kind of glad it's over actually. Portal.
Oh. Wow. this is without a doubt the most perfect moment for Photoshop to start giving the two-fingered salute to my wacom and mess up everything I draw.
My technology doesn't like your contests.
Anyway, I will do my utter best to try and get it done and make it look like.. something decent.
I'm planning on submitting mine today, but rather around the evening your time. I've had a rather busy couple of weeks, but it should be ready in time :) We've had reminders, I don't think that an extension is necessary.
The childlike quality (don't see this as an insult) and simplicity has its charm, in my opinion. But yeah, I'll say you have to watch your language too. Literally. Also, the lay-out of your site is pretty confusing, especially the homepage. I thought I was reading from first to last, but it was the other way around.
Eh.. Are we seriously talking about a naked me selling stuff at an arts market? I was surrounded by old people selling aquarels of flowers, it could have spiced things up a little..

Keep it up , make more!
I will, I will. Well, I have to, it's not long anymore until the last round of AVAT.

Ah, well, you might have been able to sell more had you not, lol.
A naked lady selling clothes.. That's a bit of a weird message, isn't it?

That looks really good, I like the flexibility! I also enjoy the dude with the ballet outfit on (idk what you'd call it), the anatomy looks great. I like your cartoon style you have, it works really well. :D
Thanks! A lot of people seemed to like the cartooney style yesterday, too.

Don't you love how strips is an actual word in english too?
Animation, Illustration and hooking, lol.
Yeah, I was afraid it would seem related to something stripper-like in English..
I kept my clothes on that day, though.
And this was made for a guy that asked me to draw him a dumb goofball.
I actually have a feeling I make better drawings when I make them for someone or something else than myself. Hm.
The little introduction I made of myself to stick onto my table at Lambermontpartre, underneath my name. Very very quick selfportrait here.
Ah, and it says "Animation, Illustration, Comics".
So, 5 minute sketch of a guy of the drawing session last night. Also the hat of another, but then I remembered I suck at drawing hats and he wouldn't stay still so I stopped.
This has been an awesome day. I'm completely exhausted, but it has been an awesome day. I only sold one T-shirt, the one with the hedgehog, but I have three more I'm going to make as commissions, and a lot of people want me to draw them a comic, a cartoon or work with them on something else.
Nice.
So I thought I'd post a picture a friend of mine took while I was still busy making my 'nameplate' to stick on my table. It was still early and the market wasn't open yet, it became a lot busier later that day. And you can see my T-shirts hanging from the coat rack behind me.
Also I went to a little free-drawing gathering which was a lot of fun too, I'll post some of the pics I drew tomorrow.
Oh nice, I really like that last one. It's pretty uh.. 'subtle' for pixel art. Nice work.
Your other drawings are also yummy.
Last shirt, woot! D'awww, hedgehog. Full view and close-up.
For some reason, I find women's shirts a lot easier to do than men's. For a man it's either too cute, or just boring. Oh well, worries for tomorrow.
...
Fuck I am tired. These shirts take roughly 3 hours to make each, without the drying time. Pfff.

Anyway, let's start at the beginning. I'm thinking you want to go for a cartoon-like style? Well, cartoon or realistic, the basic for drawing humans is always to study human anatomy. You need the basic proportions to know how to 'distort' them. It's a bit inconvinient, but I don't really know any good anatomy tutorials to give you.
In terms of anatomy, I can give you a few tips on sight though. First off, the head of your character is too large, and you, as beginners often do, forget that a body is three-dimensional. If you get to learn the basics of how humans are built and give a more realistic shape to your limbs and faces, it will immediatly look a lot better. What also helps is to divide a body up in specific shapes, to start with. Proportion-wise, I believe a body of a muscular large man is commonly about 7 heads high, yours is about 4,5 heads, which is the proportion of a child. It will make a big difference already if you change that.
Indeed it's good to start out with references, for instance for the armour, do that a lot.
Anyway, to make it short:
1) study anatomy, use tutorials
2) don't forget to think in shapes and forms
3) understand your proportions, again search for some tutorials
4) Try shading and making your bodies more 3D
5) use references
I hope those were some decent tips and that they help in some ways.

also: I had a bit of a rabbit/duckmoment there
Hm, yeah, could be. But the bigger the stencil, the harder it is to neatly stick on the fabric, especially with all the little frizzles on the side. And I have to work with really tiny bottles of paint :D
It would be a super awesome duck though.
Fourth shirt! (Yes, there is a third but that one is pretty meh, so I won't post it) Variation of my bubbleshirt. It looks red in the picture, but it's actuall hot pink.
It's always best to post your images in your thread, it's a lot easier and nicer for others than clicking links constantly. So go and post, and you'll get opinions :)

I like how it wraps around the shirt, good design flow.
Thanks! Deciding where the bubbles go was actually harder than it probably seems.
Next shirt. I'm sorry the pic is pretty crappy, but I made it using the built-in webcam in my laptop. So yeah, I was hovering my computer over the table, very practical.
Hi folks! I have been trying something new the past few days, and it has paid off. Following the advice of Spac3case916 and NinjaThumb on my Bubble Friends picture, I have tried to convert that drawing/collage into a T-shirt. And I thought I'd show you guys.
Also, I'll have a spot on Lambermontmarte this sunday, an art-market in Antwerp where I'll try to sell more self-made shirts, for any accidental Belgians in the audience.
Anyway, bubbleshirt!

I found it! Although I have searched under, around and inside my couch, apparently it was just beside it on the ground.
This does mean we have to have a word with our cleaninglady wo apparently failed to see my pen while cleaning yesterday..
Anyway, to celebrate I made this little thing! Probably very accurate.
Oh, haha, thanks. In a silly way it does, actually.
Well, yes, in hindsight it isn't as bad as I thought when I finished it. I was mostly disappointed that I had to start over because I lost my wacom pen.
Still haven't found it, argh.
