Hmm nothing seems to be happening :/ My review at his game, where I complained about that it was stolen (with my set of reasons for why I'm so sure its stolen) got deleted today.. although a lot of people voted for it being helpful :P

The newer game has encrypted the swf so I cannot compare code directly.
The old game has an external class file and the new one doesnt, maybe due to encryption I couldnt get at it...
They both have similar frame labels, but that is to be expected ("menu","select","Game")...

What is interesting is all labels are lower case except the Game label, which both flashes have a capital G, suggesting it was stolen.
The library linkages are very similar...

The player MC is structured exactly the same, and all movie clip instance names are identical too, which really does suggest foul play (see the screenshot below)...

I conclude these flashes are definatly linked. Someone either stole from the other or they are the same person submitting twice.

I'll be contacting Tom to ask about this and I'll also be contacting mochiads to put the second flashes account on hold until he confirms this game isnt stolen code...

nice analysis! great to see that some one really took time to find our the truth :)

look at this:
http://nonoba.com/monolith/monoliths-mar io-world

I put this version online more than 5 months ago (even at this time, the game was old hehe)..
Im sure you wont find any version of this guy that is older than a month :)

Btw google up "xeno tactic ripoff" or "xeno tactic stolen" and you'll find similar accusations. It seems to be a common tactic of this guy :/
"His" games are great though, and I don't see why he doesnt do his own.

I gave valid arguments.. Please don't just assume that Im wrong and check those bugs. You can also open the swf with your favorite decompiling tool and see a striking similarity with all the instance names etc.

It feels more like a lot of people dont even read my arguments, just assuming that I'm wrong. Its not like I'm accusing him without any kind of proof, you know.

Well I wasn't suggesting that you borrowed the whole code - I was more thinking that you looked through AS Main for some platforming tips mayhap. I agree that similarities abound, but the circumstances are just so weird. Who would compile all those levels off of a stolen codebase?

I dont even know what AS Main is lol. Its rather easy. I use a open-source tile editor that can export as files, and the tileset is inside the swf. The engine is commented and somewhat readable.
Also, I did my 5-6 levels in a few hours. so 20 levels in 20 days isnt impressive.
I find it more impressive that the guy has skill and still steals other peoples work (before some idiot quotes this.. I mean the engine.. not the graphics or the sound - some people are just clueless here :/)

Its not just some ripoff. He stole my code. Here are some reproduceable bugs you can check in both games:

-When climbing a vine and getting hit by an enemy, the game freezes. Pressing space fixes the problem.
-Jump on a koopa, the shellless koopa will shoot out. When this shellless koopa still runs the "shooting animation" and hits the end of a platform or an abyss, then the shooting koopa will turn direction. Its a simple bug that I just didnt fix out of laziness. Cant be just a coincidence that the author of that game decided to do it the same way.
-Brick blocks have exactly the same effect as in my game. He didnt even change the colour although his brick blocks have a somewhat darker darker red tone.
-Try hitting a "retro gomba" with a shell. It will turn into a normal SMW goomba. Stupid bug, hmm strange its also in "his" game.
-Fireballs. You can shoot unlimited amounts of them by smashing the space button.

People, its so obvious! Its not about the graphics or the sound, or the game principle. His game has the same bugs and glitches as my game. This cant be a coincidence!

They do have remarkable similarities: the sloppy acceleration and movement system is unchanged between them, the jumping height is EXACTLY the same, the transition to big mario is exactly the same, bugs are retained between games, and the exact same rendition of the mario theme.

But the two have a good amount of differences, and I wonder how, if indeed he did steal, one guy managed to put together 20 more levels in 20 days.

Dont start like that >_> I worked on that engine a few months back in 2006. You don't find such things open source...

Its not about the graphics and the sound.. Its about the engine.. You cant get that off the internet so easiliy (well.. He did, he got mine lol).

I checked again for special bugs in my engine and .. well who'd guess that! ... they are in his game too. I'm puzzled that someone would spent so much time in making new levels and implenting more features.. It takes skill to do that! Why doesnt he build his own games.. or better.. why didn't he send those levels to me and ask for a collaborative work. That would be great actually :/

Again, noones talking about the graphics or the sound. We are talking about the engine. And if someone doubts it, please show proof that you have some idea about programming and game development.

Thank you! Its great that I'm not the only one who noticed it! :)

cool someone opened a topic for this. Im the creator of mmw2.

Maybe, I'm just being paranoid but I think that guy ripped of my engine.
The code isn't protected and yes there are tools to export code from unprotected swfs.

The game has very similar bugs and movement in general:

Try climbing a vine and get hit by an enemy. The game will freeze. (Same happens in my engine, due to laziness of me to fix it)

When having the fire powerup you can fire an unlimited amount of fireballs. Just keep hitting the key. (Same bug due to laziness)

And thats just two that I found while looking at some reviews.
I don't believe thats a coincidence, actually. Is there anything I can do? (Expect for not being so naive next time and protecting my code :P )

Topic: Is this posible?

Posted: 08/22/05 05:39 AM

Forum: Programming

it will be possible with flashplayer 8.
you'll be able to resize, move, colour every single pixel of a bmp, or just a group.
so if you go through the bmp with a for loop and take out the colour codes, put them in an array or something, i think it'll be possible.. but anyway why should anyone do that
