lol... I compare this contest to Christmas Morning.

Sometimes when you've snooped around the house... you get a glimpse of what your "Big Present" is going to be. So christmas morning... you have a slight feeling of dissapointment knowing what it is... but your excited none the less... but you also are excited to open all the smaller gifts that you have no clue about.

In this case the big present would be the "Winner" and the smaller presents are the other top 4.

Anyone pickin up on my analogy here? lol

An extra $250 is nice though.
Extra money is always a bonus, but if people want to get serious with music they should be looking at what a contest (and the prize) will do for them in terms of publicity, which ultimately will result in more jobs and revenue. It's similar to a long term investment.

Publicity, however great... is good for bussiness. But I cannot find any satisfaction in publicity for some reason. I find the greatest satisfaction in knowing I've created something I've always dreamed to create. The closer I get to creating the perfect masterpiece... the more satisfied I am. Of course this can't be said for every person.

But I do declare... I wouldn't rule out the possibility that someone else could win quite yet. I tip my hat to your proffesionalism and absolutley stunning work, but since Christmas is so close to the heart of many of our judges I'm sure... perhaps a different piece can strike an old memory and a pleasant nerve, where Mr.Orr's piece could not.

But... again... in all likelyhood lol... *sigh*... sometimes you just can't beat a pro.

Hey everyone,

Well after being in the christmas spirit I decided to finish a little christmas piece I was working on for a non-contest entry. So here it.

It's kinda a cover of 4 Christmas classics... in my own style.

Can you guess the 4 Christmas classics I used???
This was incredibley rushed cuz I won't have time to make anymore music for a long while.

Anywho... thanks in advance for any reviews and scores :)."The Classical Christmas" - Milkman-Dan

I'm already wishing everyone a Merry Christmas... I just love the holidays so much.

I hope you all enjoy your Halloween tommorow, but most importantly I hope you all look ahead to the beautiful holidays yet to come.

lol... I hope that submitting early hasn't ruined my chances... the judges are probubly sick of it by now lol.

Some great Entries people... I'm in the christmas spirit so much... I want to put up my christmas tree... and deck the halls... fa la la la la. And all that jazz.

Oh and btw XBrav... yah... "The Singing Christmas Tree" was telivised... thsi will the be first year in like 36 years they aren't putting it on though unfortunitley.

Hey XBRAV... are you familiar with the Edmonton Christmas spectacle known as the Singing Christmas Tree?

If you've ever seen it... lol... that happens to be a performance I've been in almost every year of my life. It's my source of Christmas spirit.

I truly can't believe the lack of interest... maybe you should sticky this thread :)... perhaps that would help.

And what are you people doing by submitting your songs so early? That's not good strategy! You set the threshold and then everyone knows what they need to do to beat you! Everyone one of you should be spending the 2 weeks you still have left to perfect your songs and make them buttfucking tastic!

Believe me... I've thought of this. Since the day this contest was introduced.... I spent almost every waking hour designing my piece. And before I knew it... I had it exactly the way I wanted it. If I had kept it unsubmitted any longer... I would have added more to it... when it didn't need more. I may have set a bar for others to beat now... but I don't care... that just means that in the end... we'll have even better christmas music for the flash artists. :)

I can't wait to see the other entries... this contest is such a great idea.

Hi my friends... I'm back momentarily.

It's against my better judgement to submit so early... but when I heard about this Christmas Contest... my eyes went large and my head was spinning. This is something I really felt needed to be done. This piece captures everything I hold dear in Christmas.

Anyway... without further Constraint.

dude, the Christmas MAC isnt OUT YET! its not December!

Actually uhmm... The christmas MAC is this month... and doesn't accept submissions once it turns november... :P... if I read that correctly.

This is most likely to give Flash artists plenty of time to work on their pieces.

Attention All... lend me your ears.

I have completed my finale piece. My last piece for newgrounds. Again... I don't know how to link... so just make your way into my profile and look for "Time (The Milkman_dan Finale)".

Well it's been a good year of writing. I've learned so much and changed so drastically. I could have never done it without all the help and support from my fellow Newgrounder's. As of today, I bid you farewell... as life takes me onto new and different things.

I hold you all dearly in my heart. Many of you are great artists just sharing your work as I did. Never give up, or be discouraged. The true beauty of music lies within the passion it's creator puts into every rising crescendo and every strike of the drum.

I'd like to personally thank Bad_Man_Incorporated... who quickly and effectively created a guitar solo that would suit my piece. I'm sure many of you will find that to be your favourite part.

Never forget... never regret... never be afraid of one more step.

I'll recommend a program called Goldwave, get it from Goldwave.com... you can convert wavs, mp3's... I think even Midi... just make sure you also download the LAMEWIN32 which is on the downloads page.

Good luck. Also... I'm not sure what kind of music your talking about... perhaps the Tango... ?

Simply download a wonderful little program called goldwave from Goldwave.com... (be sure to download the mp3 codec thinger as well)...

Load the file into goldwave... then when saving it... choose a lower sample rate... which will reduce quality but make it smaller (compressing).

Hope that helps.

To answer your question MHB... one consistant drumbeat would be too limiting and ultimately a pain in the ass to put in... soooo... the drumbeat will be up to the artist... so long as the transition stands to be pleasant it shouldn't be a problem. Well that's two people in... any other takers?

Topic: The Ultimate Collaboration

Posted: 03/18/06 03:13 PM

Forum: Audio

haha... clearly I don't check out these forums enough to know what has and has not been done before. Never the matter.

As someone suggested... compiling each piece into mp3's and having someone splice them together... WOULD NOT... be difficult... it truly wouldn't. I do it all the time. So long as the next addon sounded similiar to the previous with the same key and tempo. Any artist who cannot make a piece play in a certain key and tempo, would simply be exempt from such a project.

The challenge is making your piece flow with the previous one. And that's just what it is... a challenge. Imagine this collab moving from Classical to techno to rock and to drums and bass in one flowing piece. It can be done, it would simply rely on the artists being able to pick up from where another left off... if this cannot be done... that is unfortunite but I know there is some serious Grade A talent here. I'm willing to do my part... it's a matter of participation.

But again... if this is an unpopular idea... that's fine. I have a dream.... :).

P.S. MaestroSorrow... you have had plenty of time with that collab :P... bout time I heard the results don't you think?

Wait a minute my friends... before you bash me. I am well aware that there is a specified topic set out for Collaborations... but ths idea would not accomidate such unvisited terrain...

I have... an idea.

I propose we start... the Ultimate Collaboration of music... the greatest the audio portal has seen. And here's how I propose it works.

The basic idea behind it... is that one person starts off about 10 -30 seconds worth of music. Being sure to stay within a predefined key and tempo. Then... another artist will come... and add from where that artist left off. Then another. Until we have an ultimate chain of music created by Newground's most talented artists. The music can go in any direction... it will be like playing the one word story game. But the next chain must flow with the previous one... or it will not be added to the chain.

How will this monstrousity be constructed in an orderly fashion?... well I or someone else can create a temporary independant website... that will feature all the information on this collaboration... as well as the progress of the piece.

I have no idea if this has been proposed before... or if it's within your interests... I'm putting forward building blocks for you fine people to expand upon... or smash down. That's what forums are for right ;)...

What is the name of this "Small Movie Company" you were... "hired" by. Where are they based?... if they are worth it at all I'll be able to fnd their company listed somewhere. And... might I add... what decent movie director... who is selling a movie... in stores no less... hires a 14 year old... who's best idea... is to come to a flash based website... and ask their audio artists... to write music for their "Blockbuster"... for... a t-shirt...????

Have I got that all clear?... honestly... why do I get the feeling your making a lil home project with your friends.

Don't waste our time... it's an insult that you think were this stupid.

I'm not entirely sure I understand the question. But anyways... if u want to lower the size of the song your going to have to lower the bitrate which will lower the quality (but not by much). Simply download a great lil program called Goldwave from Goldwave.com... it's free and it will allow u to edit your music... and save it as a lower quality to make it smaller sized as well.

Good luck :).
