Hey, I figure since the Art forum has artists and I need an artist's help, this would be a great place to go. haha

Anyways, I am making a flash animation where I need BGs made because frankly i don't do well with scenery. Im just starting it, but if you want to see a preview of the animation so far, you can see it here.

Animation Preview

Obviously not going to be THIS sketchy when I'm finished because it is in its beginning stages.

Really all I can offer is your name in the credits, co-authorship, and a decent percentage of the ad revenue.

If you are interested, drop me a PM or a message in this thread.
It would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

I agree.
You've got the fundamentals down, but really the next step is applying it to a character, which is easier said than done.

Ah I see. For frame by frame I create my frames based off of the Disney pipeline, where I do just all the lineart for one character in one layer, and in the next frame, if I can just leave certain parts un-erased.

I do that because with too many layers I get really confused and it gets quite messy for me and I'm horrible at organizing things, haha.

haha very true, but i figured a sketch layer/line art was something everybody did before diving into an animation.

Like make the head a layer, the eyes a layer, the mouth a layer, the eyebrows a layer, the body and arms a layer, and the legs a layer.

It makes it so when you do an action, you don't necessarily have to redraw ALL those parts, rather, if all those were put into one layer, you would.

At 10/31/09 01:22 AM, aspera34 wrote: my mind has a way of relating things to what they could possibly do...

and when you mentioned puppeteering, that means i can make my character's hair blow in the wind! all i do is create different poses as symbols, and swap them out on each frame, correct?

Idk if you need symbols, but if you create a layer for the hair and redrew it in each keyframe then put that animation in a movie clip, it would be a continuous hair blowing motion.

and to adjust the speed of the animation, i just fiddle with the FPS?

The two easiest (And most professional) fps are 24 and 30. The thing about constantly changing the fps is that if you are making a movie you'd have to go back and adjust all the stuff everytime you adjust the fps. It's just easier to either add more/remove inbetweens or space the frames out to a constant fps till you get it right.

i'm getting the hang of it!!! The only thing i may run into problems in the future is when to use movie clips during FBF, and how i will make a character's head turn, or make their body turn and flip, etc.

That's great!
The thing is for those motions you gotta redraw just about every part of the character. Animation isn't easy, but if you pull those off well, they're really enjoyable to watch.

Bunnykill is FBF, so i just realized that's how i should be doing my animation if i want it to run smoothly like that. (yes that's mainly the only animation i feel is worth being inspired by) My character can finally walk without choppy movements.

Bunnykill is a kinda a slew of fbf/tween mix. I personally don't like it because it seems really messy to keep track of all those symbols, but i guess so people do.

Can you upload some of your work to swfcabin.com so we can give you advice? :3

Yeah, it really depends on the style you're going for. It would be senseless to use only frame by frame on a character such as spongebob. However, even if using tweens, remember to switch out your drawings. Proper puppeteering requires you to change the hands, legs, arms, face, etc. occasionally to fit the action.

The thing about tweens though is most people use it as an excuse not to have to redraw and it looks really cheap.

The thing is that if you layer it and do a full fbf character, it is alot easier cause you don't have to redraw all of the character.

On Amazon.com, animators survival kit (the book) is only 20$.

I would definitely get that.
It is an essential asset to all animators.

Really fbf and tweening are person preference, but prefer to do most everything in FBF unless it is a movieclip or graphic or camera or something along those lines.
