Collab Thread

I'm sure most of you know about recent events with JewWario & his passing. If you're not up to speed, you can read his wife's Facebook post about it. Really awful stuff. And if you don't even know who JewWario is, he's popular in the YouTube gaming community a show called You Can Play This & some other things. Even if he may not have had the biggest relevance to Newgrounds, I still totally think it'd be worth doing something for him. Something beyond just changing our Twitter icons for a month or 2.

The idea: We all draw pictures of ourselves wearing Wario hats, then compile it all into a flash. Menu screen with a play all button & a "selection" button if that's what you call it. We could put it in the Games Portal. We then present it to his wife & I guess that'll be that. I bet she'd like it.

What's needed: Artists of all skill ranges, obviously! Next is a programmer because I dunno how to put together any of that technical jazz. And finally, a musician who can mix in that little coin noise at the beginning of Justin's videos (Google it if you dont know what I'm talking about) into the loop. I'm going to participate by being an artist & also just telling other people about it.

Haha hopefully people actually wanna take part in this.

No doubt this has been asked here before, but how much do programmers generally want to be paid for your typical flash game? Like, what's a fair price?

I think the only one of those you'll have any luck finding are background artists. But if you want to develop a skill, I suggest you just keep drawing until you finally get it. Seriously, you'll be surprised how better you'll get if you just keep at it. Nobody's born with it, y'know? Also, do anything to avoid using GoAnimate or other puppet things. Probably the worst thing you could do as an animator. And not all animation has to be "skillful" to be good. Take a lot at some of David Firth's stuff if you don't know what I mean.

'Sup, Newgrounds. I'm in need of a programmer for a horror-fun game. What I mean by "horror-fun," well.. look at Luigi's Mansion. It's got a spooky theme, yet it aims to be fun & playful. It's a top-down game... pixel art. Mechanics are similar to Zelda games.

As for compensation: we can talk about it, but no promises. I'm aware that it's a shitty thing to do, so it's really whether or not you like the project & wanna put your time into it. Sorry! More than likely I'll end up sending SOMETHING your way.

I think 2014'll be even better. Not as many companies are shitting themselves if they step out of their glass bubbles and try something. Also, 3 new consoles and handhelds. And a some of the companies that have been doing it right lately are still pushing to do even better (the Year of Luigi and the Sonic Boom.)

Anything with too complicated controls or just way too many options. I shouldn't have to feel like I'm defusing a bomb to play your video game.
