WHAT?!?!?!?! Correct me if I'm wrong, but have Wade and Tom started a Flash Duel?!?!?!?!!?

Animators created fictional "gladiators" with fictional skills, weapons and looks and then challenged eachother. The two that decided to "battle" animated their own character fighting and eventually finishing off the other one, and then the community would vote on which animation of the two was the best. After that, the one with the most votes would obviously officially be called winner and the user who animated this would be given some kind of "gladiator points", that would in the future be used for buying new skills/equipment or whatever it was for that users gladiator.

If I remember correctly it was popular and quite successful, too.

That does sound very similar to what I have in mind, but there are differences. You're saying that they create a fictional gladiator with fictional skills and weapons. What I'm talking about is artists creating an avatar of themselves, and they never finish the fight. They keep fighting coolishly until the agreed time limit is reached and then people vote on the winner. This way the winner will be determined by how well they fight! I don't really know what else to add...

Anyway, what was this community called? And why don't you have you're major administrative position anymore?

At 7/1/08 06:09 PM, bahamalama wrote: you, sire, are effing amazing. I would marry you......oh wait. No I wouldn't. I don't bend that way.

Idioticness aside, this is an EXTREMELY cool Idea. You may be onto a new craze. I think when someone challenges the other, they should make a thread, and post a screenshot of how it's going when the sent it back to the other person so people can decide who should win. It'd be awesome! Hell, If I didn't suck at animating (Check my animation for proof), then I'd totally do it!

Thanks! I think I AM pretty ducking amazing, but what all this about idioticness! I'm hoping to make it a craze, and posting a thread is, of course, part of the plan. Then everyone can follow the development!
About your animation... err... well... the music is pretty cool!

Oh, yes! You can bet half-a-pound-of-your-left-buttock that everyone who does anything to halt the workingness, will be executed properly!

Can't say anything about your preschool problem...

The better animator wouldn't always win. A flash duel is mostly about originality and randomness! I'm pretty sure that the funniest animator would win!

Well instead of having them compete because they gave each other a bad review, you can just set the rules right now. Like have two people animate an action sequence and then submit it to the portal on the same date (set a deadline). Then whoever has the higher score and review average is declared the winner. Also you could get the opinion of the BBS as well to see whose movie was better. That way the person who loses won't feel bad because it was just friendly competition and everyone goes home happy. Then after that, you can set rules for the next duel. Try to change up the concept a bit so it stays interesting. Like the next duel could be about telling the best story in flash.

Oh no no no no! The story was just an example! They're not supposed to compete because they gave each other bad reviews! It was all just an example! But I guess I could have made it easier to understand! What I wanted with Flash Duels was for two or more friends to get together and make a fight movie starring themselves! They don't submit one each, they submit one together!

Here it is again, but better thought out:

The theme of the whole thing is the same as a stick figure movie: some guys try to kill each other for no reason at all!
Two artists get together and make a action/fighting sequence/movie with avatars of themselves.
First they decide how long the movie should be and somehow figure out who gets the first go.
They each draw a picture of themselves and then paste them in one flash document/work-in-progress-thingy. Now we have two avatars, facing each other.

Alternatively, they can animate a cool scenery to fight in!

The artist who has the first go, the serve, does some animation with HIS avatar ONLY. For example, he could start the duel by doing an uppercut on the other guy. He would bend down and come back up fist first. This is the hard part. He uses the other guy to aim, and completes the full punch. Then the other artist takes over. He animates his own avatar to either receive the punch and then make his move on the first guy, or dodge it and do some counterattack, again using his opponent to aim the hits. They just improvise all the way through it until the time limit is reached! The movie is submitted with both animators as authors... and then they wait...

Okai... now I forgot the rest, but it'll come to me later...

Ummm... does anyone know if you can start polls in the forum? I tried, but couldn't figure it out! I thought that there could be a link at end of a movie that directs you to a forum on Newgrounds where you could vote for your favorite animator. That's how a winner would be found!

Tell me if there is something you don't understand and if you feel that something is missing!

At 6/25/08 08:27 AM, Vinstigator wrote: It's been done before. Not like the way you want it (where they send their .fla file back and forth to each other) but something similar has been done. Me and my old rival had a "flash duel" where we each made a Chrono Trigger movie in our own perspective. But all it did was cause problems and fuel our hatred for each other even more. Here's one of the topics about the duel...

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1230 78

As you can see, my rival and his friends were saying one of my fans sent him a trojan so I would automatically win the flash duel. Well that's not true and I actually never found out who sent him the virus. Anyway we postpone the duel until he gets his computer back in order. We finally release our movies and I end up kicking his ass big time. His movie barely made it above the 2.50 mark while mine got Daily Feature and front page. So that REALLY pissed him off! Then it turned from a friendly rivalry to pure hatred for each other. In fact I made a movie about our rivalry in flash...

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/20 2672

It's funny how a friendly little flash duel turned us into mortal enemies.

People becoming enemies is the last thing that I want! If the participants of a duel start to argue and become unfriendly, the duel should be canceled immediately and apologies and hugs should be given!

Sh0T-D0wN: Yes, there are lazy people on Newgrounds, but like I said to TheRadicalOne, it requires determination! If you don't have it, you lose. So either don't start a Duel or don't brag about how you're going to pull out your opponents teeth.

You like my idea! That's great! That means it could really happen! yay!

TheRadicalOne: That's what I think too! And you don't have to be a super great animator! A duel would only be fun if one animator drew a super artsy cool muscly guy, and the other one drew a stick figure! THAT would be interesting!

BUT... If your lazy... That wouldn't be so great... Having a Flash Duel requires the determination to finish the job! The animator who quits before the limit is reached, automatically loses!

Hiiiii!!!My nmae is Mcwierdo! I have been a member for some time, but I haven't been active in anything else than playing games and watching movies. So, while watching some of my favorite fighting submissions I got this ideaaaa that I think is amazing!
You see, I simply adOOooore anything on Newgrounds that has to do with fighting! The great displays of power, all the gory animation, big butch men giving each other their hardest... It's just sooo exciting!

Sooo anyway! I thought it would be interesting to see two people on Newgrounds actually fighting each other through the use of Flash!!!

What I mean is... I'm just going write it as a story, just to make an example! Here goes!:

Note: This is a pretty long story. If you don't want to read it, just scroll down until you reach another line just like the one below! The lines mark the beginning and end of the story. The short explanation of my idea is after the story.

Notynote: All characters in this story are totally fictional. They are only examples as well as all the rules in the Flash Duel.

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
-------------------

One glorious day, happy animator and proud Newgrounds member, albert739, was logging on to Newgrounds! He was very excited, because yesterday he had submitted a new movie, and was now going to see if it had made a good score! When he saw his entry in the daily top ten he almost got hard!(hihi)
He went on to read the reviews, and loved the responses! "Great job!" "wanna more o dat" "ey man keep em comin". He was scrolling through when he came across a review that gave him... A 0!!!
"this is the crappiest entry i ever seen BLAMBLAMBLAM stupid bullpoop".

"What a stupid review," thought albert739, "I'm gonna PM this guy and ask him to apologize! Hmm, poopforbrains, is it? Well, let's ask him about this!" So albert739 mailed poopforbrains and asked him to give a proper reason for his bad review. poopforbrains just responded "duck you ducking passducker!" Well, that did it for albert739! He was already a little ticked off and now he snapped! "Alright! If that's the way you want it! I challenge you to a Flash Duel!" "o noez a flash duel ha! i can take you on anytime!" "Very well!" said albert739 "You are the defender, so you make the serve!"

And so it began. poopforbrains animated an opening scene for the Duel and placed his avatar in the middle of it. He sent the file to albert739 who then placed his own avatar on a carefully selected spot in the scene. The file was sent back to poopforbrains who made the first move, and therefore started the Duel. He opens the match by farting in albert739's face. He then sent the file to albert739. albert739 counters the fart by shoving a buttplug up poopforbrains' nether regions and sends the file back.

This vent on for a few days until the Flash Duel was finished. The file had been sent back and forth between albert739 and poopforbrains until the file size limit was reached. Then the file was extracted and posted on Newgrounds with them both as authors. It was now up to the viewers to decide who had won.

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
-------------------

Enjoy the story!? Or did you just skip past it? Well, here's the short explanation:

I thought it would be real cool if two animators would test their flash skills against each other by having a "Flash Duel".

Let's call the animators A and B.

A challenges B to a "Flash Duel". It could be because A wants to totally pawn B, or they just want to test themselves. There really doesn't have to be a reason. Well, A is the challenger and B is the defender, so B gets to choose the scenery(or no scenery) and then both animators decide how long the animation should be(can be measured in min:sec or mb) and how long every move may be. Then B animates his Duel avatar and the scenery(or none) and sends the unfinished flash file to A, who then places his avatar in the file. Then you have the starting scene! yay! A sends back to B, so B can make the serve(he is the defender so he gets the first move). B animates his move then sends the file to A, who tries to, either counter the move or just take the blow and then start a new move. The file is sent back and forth between them until the agreed limit has been reached. The file is extracted and posted on Newgrounds. Now everyone can vote for who wins the duel. Use some actionscripting to put in a link to a forum post with a poll or something.

SUPER NOTE: Remember that a Flash Duel is completely customizable. The only necessary rules are the ones that the animators agree upon. So, there are a lot of options and countless ways of putting a duel together.

Well, that's my idea, hope you like it! I would love to see something like this on Newgrounds, as I'm pretty sure it would give us some awesome fight movies to watch! yay!

Ask me stuff if you don't understand!

Hello! My nmae is Mcwierdo! Wow, this is so exciting! My first post on the forums! Weee!

Anyway, I'm looking for a flash submission that I saw a long time ago on newgrounds. I don't think it was ever on the front page... I was this short joke where some of the states of America are talking to each other and one of them ask "Who that below me?". The response: "Is me! Idaho!". Then all the states start laughing and Idaho is like: "Hey. Was so funny?". Then another state says: "You da hoe, bitch!"

Know where it is? Thank you!
