You mean using that paint the fills thing? I tried using that a long time ago but it always seemed like more work to me because you have to keep switching colors for every 'piece'. To each his own I guess...

no just lining the shadow before filling it. i understand why you do it, but i've always used paint behind to overdraw the shading. easier on the tablet

looks really good. kinda hard to give criticism because the thumbnails are so small.
on your punch there it seems to lack anticipation. maybe too simple in frame changes. not sure.
I remember you on that forum. I think you did a falling skull? Newgrounds doesnt allow me to post bigger gif files so the preview is small. Well thanks for the reply. :)

yeah i did the skull. it'll actually be part of the 60 frames collab that comes out the 31st this month.

well maybe compile all the test gif's into a larger size and host it on youtube or something so we can really see it. looking forward to seeing more!

Response to: Tablet vs Mouse? Posted January 3rd, 2013 in Animation

A tablet. Using your mouse to draw will be difficult and might cause injury to your wrist.

people are so quick to say TABLET TABLET OMG TABLET

what do you think you want to animate? if you're going tween heavy or even frame-by-frame of non changing sprites(I.E. Madness Combat) then you'll definitely be sticking to the mouse. more more precise control without the pad to screen size interference.

if you're going for a traditional FbF, redrawing all moving parts of the animation, then you'll want to stick to the tablet.

basically decide what tools you'll be using predominantly, if it's pencil and brush tool, go tablet. if it's line, circle, rectangle, free transform, and pen tool, definitely go mouse.

it's good to find a balance between the two, that why real tablets(intuos, cintiq, etc) come with a mouse. because it's not feasible to do everything with a pen.

Response to: How do I fade from black to a scene Posted January 2nd, 2013 in Animation

well for good ol AS 2.0(*rather 1.0)

draw a black rectangle over your screen.
convert to movieclip F8

put these actions on it

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
	_alpha--;
	if (_alpha < 0)
	{
		removeMovieClip(this);
	}

}

yes, no, yes but graphic, and yes

Does that make any difference? Please help.

check your bitrates for both the export on audacity and your import in flash

i've had many mishaps like this, they're great when you're debugging and you use the word "Dong" instead of "doing" and such. little moments that keep us from going crazy

At 12/27/12 04:35 PM, 3ruce wrote: Hey guys, looking for some suggestions. Heres the problem:

I've been working on an animation (It's not even that long yet only about 200 frames) and everything was working fine until i started to draw heavily (filling colours and lots of lines) and now everytime i try and create a new frame or even undo something flash displays the not responding thing at the top and freezes. It's getting really irritating as its happening everytime i need to change something etc, it always eventually sorts itself after a couple of minutes. How can I fix this? theres about 4 wav files in there too.

if you've imported a lot of jpegs then clean out your library. Flash is a resource hog, so you need a lot of RAM and a good processor to use it seamlessly. if upgrading the pc is not an option you'll have to use older versions of flash

each individual frame is a movieclip inside the graphic that the filter is applied to. tedious, but it works

holyfuck I can't believe it was that simple. Is there any reason I shouldn't just leave it as a graphic if I'm not using AS at all?

graphics don't use filters, actionscript, and have a smaller filesize if duplicated throughout a movie.

if none of that applies then for sure keep it graphic

here's my layout. it show my age since i always try to replicate flash MX with the new versions
